My main issue with him is that his in game decision making can be puzzling like not going for 2 in Buffalo after a TD put us up by 12 in the 4th quarter. That and he seems to be risk averse. I'm not on the Bowles Never Plays The Young Players bandwagon. It was obvious that Petty and Hack were not better options at QB than McCown last year.
I don't have the time to do a definitive list, but I would bet that there are more busts from the ranks of big guys with big arms than there are busts from spread offenses.
I agree that we need a big time pass rusher, but I would take Barkley before I took Chubb if even considered anyone other than a QB. Adding Barkley massively upgrades the offense, while adding Chubb helps the "D" but not as much IMO. And selecting a high impact offensive player would send a welcome message to the fans that Macc understands you can't win a SB with just a defense.
Ask Peyton Manning, worked out well for him in a season where he was absolute trash. Matter of fact, both of Peyton's rings were based off a run game and a defense. If the Jets had a pass-rusher worth a damn, they would've had a SB perhaps in 2009 w/ a rookie Mark Sanchez
He's not the worst coach, but at this point he's still making bad game time decisions, and he's sticking with a defensive scheme that he doesn't really have the personnel for. He had a rep as a great defensive mind, why has our defense actually regressed since he's been here? Sure, some of that is outside his control, but not all of it. But here's my bottom line with him: Today's NFL is offensive-driven and he doesn't seem to have any idea of how to take advantage of that. I would feel much more optimistic if we had an offensive-minded coach, especially since we finally seem to be willing to take a risk on drafting a QB with the #3 pick.
Peyton Manning being "absolute trash" is still better than 90% of the other QBs. In the end he was the difference-maker.
Funny how Peyton had 3 TD's and 7 INT's in the 4 playoff games of his first Super Bowl season. But he lead the Colts 80 yards down the field against NE to win the AFC Championship game that year. They most likely don't go to the Super Bowl if Sorgi took over after Peyton had a thumb injury in that game. He was clearly on his last legs in 2015.
Not in his last year. He had maybe 1 good drive against New England. I don't think he was better then 90% of the QBs that season. He should've retired to be honest. The Broncos defense beat Cam Newton that year. That completely dominated him in the 4th QTR. Von Miller? SBMVP?
Can't dispute that drive. Yeah, Sorgi wasn't going to do anything. Joseph Addai got them out of that first round, that I do remember. Addai had a great post-season run. Him and the other RB, I forgot his name. Peyton was part of the team, not sure if he was the absolute difference maker. That running game was amazing that post-season.
Without Manning n the huddle they don't win the SB. Forget the stats - isn't that what you've been telling us about Allen and Lamar? - having that big game experience leading your team gives confidence to the other players, which makes a huge difference. But let's get back to the original point: How many SBs have the Jets won with their formula of "defense first"? I'm not saying a good defense isn't important, but it's not the most important element, especially in today's NFL.
Not at all. I just see Allen's floor being about what Blake Bortles is to date. His ceiling is probably the highest of any of this year's QBs in my opinion.
I think this could have been a totally different movie if Mac was given the full opportunity and support on year one to bite the bullet and embark on a total youth movement and unencumber this team from a bunch of one year overpaid, over the hill wonders that miraculously gave Todd Bowles a 10-6 season and a future road to nowhere. I blame him for not addressing the QB position thru the draft with priority, but he wasn't alone in the decision. So we are where we are now, probably two years behind schedule, hoping and praying we strike gold with a QB.
Von Miller had like 3 sacks, and 2 fumbles (one winning the game) ... I think a lot of starting QBs could've won a SB with that roster. Not even counting the QBs at the top 5. Yes, that's what I have been saying with Allen and Lamar. I've been using my eyes and the eye told me, that 2015 Peyton was not better then 90% of the starting QBs. Peyton was slow, couldn't get his offense in rhythm and if it were not for a stout run game and elite defense, he wasn't going to get that 2nd ring. Now, the Jets defensive formula is not something I would have agreed with. I would've built my defense much differently, and the fact that the Jets couldn't get a pass-rusher to make the defense complete was a damn shame. The most important element IMO is balance. You don't have to have the most talented QB in the league, but you need a team that has balance. Can you run the ball, stop the run? Control the clock? Make plays when plays need to be made. That's why I was a fan of that 2010 team, it represented balance (at its most "average form" in a way). Could've won if Rex didn't blow his wad on NE the week before.
