There's just been consistent problems with Av that have been an issue every year. Lacks creativity. Too rigid with his gameplans and refuses to change things up. Can't coach defense. Too little aggression leading to players getting bullied.
I like the Kovy move...Maybe he brings the goalie Igor with him. Time to have Henrik's next goalie get ready
Professional courtesy. Maybe the Rangers offer him some sort of scouting position, but no chance he's coach. From the Gorton presser today: - On top of AV, Scott Arneil and Darryl Williams also Fired - Going to meet with Ruff - Looking to talk to 5-10 candidates - willing to look anywhere for highly qualified candidates - do have certain people they want to reach out to (didn't give any) - "I will not consider anyone who has never coached at any level." - No timeline for new coach selection - Looking for 'hands-on coach - Was disappointed in certain players - Not thinking about the new captain at this point - liked what they saw from Chytil and Andersson - Shatty doing well, has started his summer training program - ADA has been skating, both should be 100% by camp - Kreider going to world championships - Zib, Chytil, Andersson all asked to participate not confirmed
Brooks says interesting coach for Rangers, Scott Stevens, he wouldn't take any bullshit from his playes, they would play hard and throw the body
Stevens would make a good coach. Hard pass on Kovalchuk though.. Guy is a drama queen. I remember following St. Petersburgh through the playoffs a couple years back, and Kovalchuk was benched by coach Sergei Zubov in the playoffs for being a malcontent. Think he was also stripped of his captain title. That's not a guy I'd want here, and is the opposite attitude a guy like Stevens would want to install. I hope the rumors were BS on that..
B2Q, agree on Stevens disagree on Kovalchuk, guy is very skilled, best shot in league, PP point man , plays hard with an edge, fast and he is a leader for younger players
Yes, he is very skilled and a great shot on the PP. How is he a leader though? I just pointed out an example where he literally was stripped of his leadership title and benched in the midst of the playoffs. Terrible example for the younger players, and I'd be very hesitant bringing him around our locker room chemistry. Not worth it.
Don't think he was a malcontent on the Devils...In Russia everything there is about ego, and he probably feels entitled there. Still, Kovy has a shot that you cannot overlook. I'd do it if it does not hinder long term plans.
