Too funny..you can have TB...so now you are homering for our head coach??? Ahahah As Parcells said "you are what your record says you are " two seasons of double digit losses makes for NO great Coach To detail how bad TB is in the decision making on critical plays since he came here would take all day to list...and this ruins a QBs rhythm game plan etc when you decide to punt or kick a field goal on 4th and goal..lmao Those 2 QBs Fitz and McCown played over their head ..and everyone knows that except you ...sad sad sad
A thousand internet dollars says Baker is FOOTBALL SMARTER pre NFL than Geno ..not Accountant smarter ...but Heisman smarter..plus he doesn't run backwards out of bounds lol
And I've said we don't know about the character of these guys. This is the distinct difference between all of our projections and what actually happens on draft day. We can evaluate things we see, we can't evaluate things we don't. In Geno's case, teams saw what the fans didn't and he slid as a result. Come draft day, things will happen and that will be very telling. I think with Mayfield and Rosen in particular, where they inevitably land will be a huge reflection of what teams find, the same way it caused Geno's slide.
Not surprised. Polian is full of shit. He tried saying he had a 1st round grade on Brady back in 2000 but didn't draft him cause the Colts had Manning and didn't need him. Yeah, okay.....
Exactly, we can only look at what we see. I don't see Rosen falling out of the top 5 (even with the "character concerns w/ Rosen); but Mayfield and Allen they could fall a little bit to the very early teens.
No one knows what kind of leader Mayfield is compared to Allen though. We know he's louder and full of himself from his comments but who knows how they are in the locker room and how team mates respond to each. Few QBs playing on teams as lousy as Allen did are drafted high. Stafford had one season just over 60%, was hardly what some think means accurate
Can you stay in topic? We were talking offense and now you're on tangents. And no, no one credits their success as playing over their heads. That's dumb to even attempt to explain it that way. Two QBs, both played over their heads is more likely than they were put in a situation where they could succeed. And therefore Bowles remains a defensive HC who makes offenses worse. How ridiculous is this, has nothing to do with being a homer, had to do with being honest and not just dumping on someone
Interesting. I think the "no consensus" is just more Mehta/Cimini made up BS or what the Jets have put out there so that no one will know what they're doing. I agree that who Bates wants should be important, but since the GM is the one responsible for the talent on the team, what Mac wants should be most important and his vote should be the tie-breaker if one is needed. The final decision should be his and not the owner's. I'm sure there are teams where the owner does have the final say, and maybe even most or all of them if it's a really controversial pick. Since Mac's career is on the line with this pick, he should get final say. Woody's no longer running the team (supposedly), so what he wants shouldn't matter one whit, especially since he's a clueless moron when it comes to football. I'm not sure how accurate your statement is about NO team having followed Allen more closely. We don't really know what other teams do and have done. Unless Bowles is a total moron, he's not gonna put Mayfield in the doghouse if he's the one who really wants him. That makes no sense imo. He knows that rookies take time to adjust and develop and that Mayfield is coming from a spread offense where most of the snaps were in shotgun formation, and that Mayfield is going to have to adjust to taking more snaps under center, reading Ds, working on his footwork, not holding the ball so long and taking sacks, etc. With McCown and Teddy the Jets have two capable QBs that can play while Mayfield (or whomever the rookie is) sits and learns. If the Jets are sincere about wanting to establish a new winning culture on the team, then Mayfield or Rosen would have to be the pick.
If they take Barkley, then I'm definitely done as a Jets fan, and I will root AGAINST them for as long as Mac is employed as the GM and the Johnsons own the team.
Lamar Jackson? ROFLMFAO!!!! He isn't half as good as Mayfield and doesn't have the potential that Mayfield does.
It’s been reported by multi media outlets that per Wyoming U officials no team did more homework or spent more time in & around Allen than the Jets.i understand you don’t like Allen so you’ll dismiss it & thats fine but that was reported both during & after the season. As for ownership perhaps I made my point sound too black & white. While being a tie breaker should not be the case & it should be the GM ownership should at least have input & feedback in the process..significant football related input?Absolutely not.But how they carry themselves, fit the market & fit the operation..if the team is skinning teeth in the war room over the consensus 1-4, how ownership leans should at least be under consideration. I disagree that it comes down to Rosen/Mayfiekd or death & still prefer Allen to Baker. But not gonna beat a dead horse any longer. I hope you’re right about Bowles if Mayfield’s the pick.I get Petty & Hack have been awful but he did neither any favors was that bc they stink or bc he is tough on young QBs to the point of paralysis? Mayfield has a ton to work on & will not like having to sit. If he thinks the Hack situation w the media was a thorn in his side that could be times 100
I agree. Don't make a statement like that, because Mac and the Jets are just stupid enough to do something like take Allen.
If nothing excites you about Mayfield's play/game, then you'd better check your pulse...I think you're dead.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm not dismissing it at all, not because I don't like Allen, or for any other reason. It's just that it was a pretty bold claim, that I haven't seen those statements, and haven't seen them here before, either. Mostly, however, I was just making the point that we don't know what other teams do. If the Wyoming U officials said it then it probably is true, but one or more teams may have told the Wyoming officials not to comment on how many times they had been there to view/talk to Allen. Assuming it's true, that could just be a case of the Jets doing their due diligence. Perhaps because of the lousy stats and/or the lack of talent around him, the Jets thought they needed to see him a lot more than the other QBs to get a better picture of who he is and what he can and can't do, so they could make a more accurate/better determination which QB they like the most. I agree that ownership probably has input and should, but unless it's a really controversial player, I think the GM should have the final say. That doesn't mean that they do, however. With some owners like Kraft or the Rooneys or Maras, they may have final say on everything. I don't know. I think how the Jets handle whichever rookie QB they take will be very telling about Bowles' attitude about rookie QBs. It could have been that Hack and Petty were that bad. It could have been that Bowles was that way, but realized that was a mistake, and he could have altered his approach or opinion, or maybe the rookie will force him to change his mind. If this rookie QB gets treated the same, then I think we can accurately say without any doubt that Bowles does have a problem with rookie QBs
I agree that the Jets reasoning on checking out Allen more is because they need to be sure. Frankly I'll be surprised if they take Allen - surprised, not shocked. I also agree that it's the GM who should have the most say in picks/signings, unless the owner has a long, prove track record as a football-knowledgeable person, and there are only a couple of those around, and NOT the Johnsons. If anything, their track record shows how clueless they are, and I hope they have NO input in the draft. Macc's job hangs in the balance, and he needs to have the freedom to hang himself or vindicate himself. Whomever they get - and that includes Allen - will be of sufficient quality that Bowles will be hard pressed to deny them playing time> Sure, he may decide to go with a vet - McCown/B'water - at first, but the rookie should see a lot of snaps and time played in preseason with the expectation that when they're ready they'll take over. If this doesn't turn out to be the case, then Bowles needs to go, and/or Macc does - the #3 player taken in the draft had BETTER be ready to play ASAP.
