Geno Smith was/is a dumbass though. There's no denying that he is a talented player, he's just a dumbass. Mayfield aint. Actually I don't think there is really any comparison between the two very different players over than the fact that they were both successful in college. Well duh, most talented players are succesful in college, should we avoid anyone who ever has good stats because Geno Smith was a dumbass? of course not
mayfield is very immature though. especially when you look at him compared to rosen and darnold and allen. and mayfield is older then them all which worries me he won't "grow out of it" Rosen is very mature and intelligent but not as flashy and can be outspoken. darnold just goes about his business. doens't make waves and gets the job done. Allen is very laid back and doens't feel pressure ever
The Jets took Keyshawn in 1996 with the first pick. You're correct supposedly Mannings dad spoke to Parcels who wouldn't guarantee the pick if he came out. You're talking about the 97 draft. Parcels traded that pick to the Rams who drafted Pace. We ended up trading another player to move up in the first round to draft Farrior and we got Ward and Leon Johnson with the other picks. Parcels didn't want Pace because he signed Jumbo Elliot. Eli Manning was the consensus No. 1 QB going into that draft. There were a couple of teams that had Roethlisberger rated ahead of him and Rivers was considered a great QB prospect. Eli was absolutely considered a solid No. 1 pick and great QB prospect. The Giants gave up a boatload to get him.
So what you're saying is numbers count until someone brings them up with a player that you don't like. Because he didn't become a viable NFL QB. Then its he's a dumbass or something else that is beyond numbers. But because of Mayfield's numbers we should draft him. Not Geno with the same numbers. Got it. Youre missing the point because it destroys the idea that stats are the end all. That it's more than just numbers.
huh? are you doing the thing where you make a silly argument for someone so you can shoot it down easy? It might come as a shock to you but nothing is black and white and all these prospects have unique strenghts and this year, weaknesses. I see numbers as the results of a player's abilities not the entire story. With Mayfield, the only thing I was pointing out was that his numbers indicate he makes big plays, period. I was responding to someone who stated they want a big play QB
thanks for the clarification on the peyton situaiton. eli was the consensus 1 pick but because he was a manning and followed archie and peyton and the NFL loved the manning family and the history of their sucess at QB. not because of his talent or what he did in college. he was more of a mid 1st round pick without the manning name
numbers don't indicate big plays. a RB who takes a screen 99 yards is the one who made the plays along with the blockers not the QB, but the QB gets credit for a 99 yard TD.
Darnold is my fav prospect this year. I think Rosen is great but I really worry about his desire. He has bust potential if its tough sledding and he quits. But his ceiling is high. I am glad we are picking third though because we're assured to get 1 of Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield and that's a good spot as each of those guys has strengths that can be worked with
SMH...yes.. I know dude... but Mayfield has 4 years of these big plays. That's a big enough sample size to conclude that he wasn't having 99 yard screen passes his whole career
Rosen spent time with Rodgers and asked Aaron some questions. His desire is not what concerns me. It's the concussions and how he comes back if he has one in the NFL given that his father is a doctor.
You're still missing the point. All I'm saying is it takes more than numbers. I read that Mayfield's numbers are not only great, they're all time great. I find it funny how the numbers are important when you like the player and not so much when you don't. You want to argue this, go ahead
I completely disagree about Eli. Great deep ball passer in college and was considered as good or better than Payton. He had a terrific senior year. I can see that people thought he would be more cerebral because of Payton. In some ways the fact that he isn't may have helped him under pressure? That's an interesting debate. The 04 draft was an amazing draft class. Out of the first 12 picks, 9 of them were all pro at least once including Vilma who we took at 12. Besides the 3 QB's, Larry Fitzgerald went 3rd. The guy who may have actually been the highest rated player in that draft Robert Gallery was a total bust at 2.
I'm not fully happy with 3rd, unless the browns take allen 1st or the giants don't take a QB. mayfield/allen/jackson re all huge reaches at the 3 spot. they would be reaches at the 6 spot and we would have had 3 extra 2nd round picks
he hasn't though. if you watch him he hasn't doen anything big play or impressive. it's typically short passes to wide open WRs
You say you haven't acted like you know more than the rest of us, but your posts don't reflect that. My response wasn't childish. Not one derogatory word in my post towards you. Yours is filled with them though.
yeah 2004 was an amazing draft class. 15 pro bowlers in the 1st round, 10 pro bowlers in the top 15 picks. 3 franchise QBs 2 of which won multiple superbowls. all 3 Qbs likely to go to the HOF. That's pretty rare. as far as eli goes, he was a great prospect, but not a consensus 1. many people had rivers or ben as the best in the class. but eli was going to be the 1st pick because he was a manning. If his name was eli johnson he wouldn't have been 1st overall, he would have still been top 10 but likely the 2nd or 3rd QB picked
Mayfield is a great dancer, he would fit great with the Jets only for that reason. Mayfield's "leadership" qualities are a dime a dozen IMO. Being a RAH RAH guy is not enough IMO.
Eli wasn't considered as good or better than Payton. He wasn't even the clear cut choice as the best QB in his class.
