This all time great, in just every catagory has college numbers similar to Geno Smiths. Geno was more consistent though. Geno was bad enough as a 2nd round bust, imagine as the 3rd overall pick?
Yep, the only chance this happens, is if the Jets trade back down, which would likely net them more than they gave up to make the trade in the first place. I can't believe people are STILL talking about taking Barkley or Nelson at #3. I'd be okay with taking one of them if we already had a QB and didn't have to move up, but that idea is completely ludicrous at this point.
So in your mind, Andrew Luck is the measuring stick for "readiness" and anyone short of Luck should sit?
Mayfield is a far better prospect than Geno was. He will be picked 1st round, without question. Look at his scouting rank. This is the first time in 15 years that there were 4 QB ranked over 90. If Geno were ranked that high, he would have been picked in round 1.
Why? Because you say so? Their numbers are the same. All I've heard is Mayfield is better than Allen because of numbers. Now they aren't important? Geno has the size, has a better arm, was as accurate and is much more athletic. Geno was supposed to be a day one pick who slipped. There weren't as many QB needy teams. But he wasn't the prospect that Mayfield is? I was just answering s post that sang the virtues of Mayfields numbers, stats. Just saying that Genos were really similar
That's true. Most of the criticism of Darnold is that with the drop off in talent at USC, he could use another year to develop in college. I bet if he stayed his full commitment he comes out hailed as the next Luck.
This isn't even remotely true. Like, not even a teensy-tiny-eenie-weenie bit. Maybe Darnold ends up a better pro - who knows? But focusing just on the draft period for each player, Luck's prospect status dwarfed Darnold's, to the point where Andrew can't even see Sam in his rear view mirror. Luck was unanimously viewed as a generational, almost once-in-a-lifetime QB prospect entering his draft.
Agreed. It could be argued that he's the best prospect SINCE Luck, but he's not on that same level. Luck was pretty much considered a guaranteed thing. Darnold still has some questions and concerns about his game, and will likely take a little bit longer to develop, it's unlikely he's a day 1 starter like Luck.
that's not true at all. Darnold has been the defacto obvious 1st overall pick for any year he wanted to come out. He was the best prospect since luck before he even entered the draft. Doens't mean he'll be as good as luck in the NFL, it just means if you were to take every QB since luck drafted and have 1 big draft, danrold would be 1st overall
Please stop. Andrew Luck was the best QB prospect since John Elway. Darnold is a good prospect. Nobody was sucking for Darnold.
He is right, darnold is not close to the prospect luck was. The fact that there is talk of Cleveland taking another player is the conclusive evidence of this
Peyton manning was a better prospect then elway so that really doens't make sense. luck was the best since peyton manning. darnold is the best since luck.
there was talk of the colts taking leaf over manning too. it's just nonsense and something to discuss in the offseason when you need content. going on TV and saying darnold is the best isn't going to fill hours and hours of shows, and forums and such.
like they were on mallet and brisset? if the pats move up to 2 and take mayfield i'd laugh my ass off.
Manning wasn't even the No. 1 QB prospect in his draft class. The Colts were going to draft Leaf. Leaf stood up a lunch date with the Colts owner because he didn't want to play in Indy. The knock on Manning at the time was he was so smart and prepared that they were worried he didn't have enough natural talent to grow at the next level. Leaf was considered a much more natural talent and was rated ahead of Payton on almost every draft board including the Colts.
manning was going to come out in a year earlier as the number 1 pick, but parcells for the jets didn't want to guarantee him that so he went back to college for year. we took keyshawn 1st overall. manning came out the following year and went 1st overall to the colts. Manning was always the pick. especially back then when teams love "football families" same reaosn eli was the 1st pick. eli wans't the top prospect (rivers was) and some had ben in front of him too, but he was a manning that's why he was picked 1st. You realize GMs don't buy into hype and nonsense right and many will choose safe picks over better picks depending where they are in their career. like the niners GM came out and said, rodgers was betetr but we picked smith for his attitude and felt he was safer and regrets it.
