I'll ask you a question to prove my point. Gronkowski and Sefarian Jenkins are both available. Who do you sign and why?
gronkowski because he has the bright future. he should put up near 1000k yards every season for the next 304 years when ASJ wont. It has nothing to do with his past production. it's what he can do tomorrow and for the next few years. Also once again, not a single player in college has any production at the NFL level, so it's a moot point. I'll give you a better one. Lets say Jimmy G was a free agent this offseason. who do you sign as the jets Case keenum? Jimmy G? Josh Mccown? pick one and why
Jimmy G because he hasn't lost a game as pro. He went to bad team and they started winning. His future looks bright to me. I know that what happened in college has nothing to do with the pro's. Maybe some people on this site don't like the word stats. I personally like to look at it as production. If any player no matter how much he looks the part doesn't produce I don't want him.
Agree on Jimmy, but disagree on the reason. Wins/losses are a team stat much like a pitcher's win/loss record. It's because Garoppolo has the brightest future out of the 3 QB's SGB gave.
there made your post shorter and to the point. thanks for agreeing with me. You choose the guy who only started 5 games in his career over the guys with better stats, more experience and more wins. you choose for the future not the past
No, I chose him for his production. I know it takes a "team" to win, but before him they had only one win.
you can't use production as an argument when choosing someone who only played 5 games (and lok at his stats, they aren't that good) over 2 people who have played for years, won a ton of games and produced
Had this argument with him. Stafford was around 52% year 1, 55% year 2, 61% year 3. But he continues to argue that Stafford was a over 60% college passer. Nonsense, that doesn't take into account how bad the talent was around Allen. That he's rated at the top of the draft by many, ahead of Mayfield by most playing on that shit team says a lot about how talented he is to anyone who looks at more than a stat sheet. There's more to the game
Right on,man. Simply put In the case of Allen this is what an elite QB looks like when he has absolutely no help around him. Is he a perfect prospect? Not by any means..but if his completion% is a measly 4 points higher is anyone talking about his ball placement?? Absolutely not. Ive said all offseason that he’s being treated like a Johnny come lately whose stock climbed a full round or 2 solely based on a bowl performance or by throwing 80 yds from his knees at his pro day.Hes not Kyle Boller or JP Losman.Hes been highly regarded for well over 2 years in SPITE of the so so stats.scouts & evaluators had every reason to drop him down the pecking order given the deep pool even after the top 4.There are plenty of folks who like Jackson Rudolph & Falk..yet those guys have never been mentioned in that same breath. To shun this is laughable
Looks like I found someone as thick headed as me. LOL. I thought you said stats don't count. Can't have it both ways. I tell you what counts wins and losses and up till now he hasn't lost a game. If next year he goes 0-16 then I will think differently.
College production & nfl production are not apples to apples.Just like in the NBA there are certain players better suited for the pro’s than the NCAA and vice versa And as it pertains to Allen other than completion % how did he not produce?16 TDS compared to 6 ints is pretty good.He also put a bad team on his back & led them to their greatest success since the late 80s when they got blown out in back to back Bowl games. That’s a 2 win team in a below average conference w.o him.Doesnt that fall within the realm of production;Doing more w less?
I said College stats don't count for sucess in the NFL. NFL stats are different and still even then, not a fair 1:1 comparison for players. for instance robbie andrson had just under 1k yards for us, how many would he have in NE or pitt or SD or Det? Jimmy G doens't have enough of a past to choose him over 2 veterans based on his past. you would only be able to choose him based on his future which looks bright
OK, I'm the GM you tell me his future looks bright and I say convince me. What do you have to go on that says his future looks bright.
On the contrary, Jimmy had outstanding numbers - 53 tds, 5k yards working out of a spread offense in college. I say this comment just for you. You know what qb a lot of people say is similar to Jimmy in this draft? Yep, Baker. Their throwing motions are almost identical. It’s not surprising the Pats are said to love Baker and trying to move up for him...
and was drafted in the 2nd round and is bigger then mayfield if we want to take mayfield in the 2nd round, i'm all for it. just not 3rd overall
Watch the film. it's that simple. eveyrone here spends hours upon hours posting links to "experts" and quoting stats but nobody can take those hours and really watch a player play and come up with their own assessment. it's a new level of lazy. I'm not here to convince anyone of anything. I just calls things how i see it
Ah yes. You are far more knowledgeable then all the rest of us. Really, nobody cares about your posts. I’ve watched enough of both Allen and Mayfield to determine who I like better. You’ve clearly done the same thing so why do you continue to beat the living hell out of this dead horse? Again, you don’t agree with other people just like I don’t agree with you. Who are you to say I’m lazy just because my opinion doesn’t align with yours? If anything, that is lazy. Also stop saying how much tape you watch. You are not a professional scout/talent evaluator so I don’t care how much “tape” you’ve watched. Having an opinion is great, but you aren’t just sharing your opinion, you are shaming others for having a different one.
