at this point i'm just hoping the browns take allen 1st overall. if they do we are guarenteed daarnold or rosen. If mac was to fuck that up i'd be pretty upset
We agree on the Browns taking Allen. I would rather Mayfield over Darnold, but again wouldn't slit my wrists. I'd feel much better sitting at #2 to almost guarantee them getting Rosen.
These are pretty solid ratings, I would still deduct a point off Mayfields fundamentals. Also he doesn't have a stronger arm then Darnold so I would deduct a point there too. I think Mayfield is pretty average to above average in terms of iq. That might not be enough for Mayfield. He better have a Drew Brees like work ethic. I think you are really under rating Darnold here. He's accurate as well and made some spectacular throws i never saw from Mayfield. Case and point the td in last year's Rose bowl
if somehow allen and rosen went 1 and 2 and we had the option of mayfield and darnold and took mayfield, i'd lose my shit. No idea why people are sleeping on darnold.
and that's fine, as long as we can all be adults about it the good news is, if baker winds up in buffalo or miami, we'll get to beat up on him twice a year and laugh at the bills/fins
Might want to keep the tissues handy - Tony Pauline "There are a good number of league insiders who believe the New York Jets will use the third pick of the draft to select quarterback Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma" http://draftanalyst.com/pro-day-april-3-boise-state-memphis
Rex Ryan wants Josh Allen, but the Patriots want Baker Mayfield Hmmmmm... (speculation I know, but funny... and revealing if true) http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/13072/baker-mayfield Baker Mayfield - QB - Player CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Patriots' acquisition of the No. 23 overall pick from the Rams in exchange for Brandin Cooks "was all about" trying to trade up for a quarterback in this month's draft. A member of the Patriots' organization told La Canfora he would "certainly not" be surprised if the Cooks trade was made to acquire more ammo to move up in the draft. La Canfora admitted his "total hunch" is the Patriots may be eyeing Baker Mayfield due to his mobility and top-notch accuracy. Coach Bill Belichick realizes he needs to find Tom Brady's successor, and this QB-deep draft offers one of the best chances to find that guy. However, there will be a ton of competition to move up in the draft. New England has two firsts and two seconds.
This is pretty solid, and agree with most (Rosen has always been my #1) BUT... I think you're selling Darnold a bit short. Also something to add should be "injury history". I know that will deduct some points from Rosen.... not too familiar with the others (I do know Mayfield had his bell rung a few times too, but at this level of football, who hasnt?)
Agree somewhat but this is about pure arm strength and the crazy attempt bring made that Mayfield's arm is Allen like. He has a good arm, it's not an issue. Allen has an arm better than anyone else.
The closer we get to draft the more & more I cringe at Baker mayfield.I promised myself I’d be happy w any of the 4..but I think this guy is fool’s gold. I’m tired of people mistaking completion % for ball placement or “accuracy”..gimmick system, under 6”2 & small hands..high profile immaturity issues..we’re really gonna ignore ALL of this bc he has gawdy stats??? ..the other 3 have been highly regarded consensus top 10 picks for well over 2 years..why are we buying into Johnny come lately w all sorts of developmental concerns?? I keep waiting for one of these homers to sell me on why in the world this guy is the answer..and all I get is a lot of stats & hot air about his intangibles which makes me want him even LESS.Great college player..but so were alot of Oklahoma QB's who put up great stats...some of them even won the heisman in their own right...that didn't make them great NFL QB's.
Just curious Kurt. After reading your post arguing against taking Barkley, what if the choice was between Mayfield and Barkley? I know at #3 it won't come to this...at worst it will be Mayfield and either Allen, Rosen, or Darnold, but given that I know you think we need a FQB (as do I), but if you had to choose between Mayfield who you consider bust material, and a RB, which way would you go?
A month ago I’d say Mayfield w.o hesitation.. and I guess that’s still be my choice though I’m almost to the point where I’d pull a 180 & take Jackson or simply trade down. Barkley is tough to pass up but I don’t believe in feature backs nor do I think RB Is a position with the shelf life wherein one can be counted on to be apart of a long term plan. Gurley & Fournette May prove me wrong but I’ll believe in when I see it.These guys either get hurt, wear down, wear out their welcome or defenses figure out how to neutralize them.Jets need someone who they know will be here when contention is a reality I’m gonna watch some more tape of Mayfield in the coming weeks & i promised acouple posters I’d breakdown my concerns over his pocket drifting. That said I’m almost at square one w mayfield. I see a guy who had the optimal college situation for success.Everybody saying how accurate he is..but that’s just stats.i have no idea if this guy can make legit nfl throws bc of the scheme & surrounding cast. And when I factor in the height, small hands & the off the field stuff..what am I really left w other than a few “gamer” esque buzz words??
Do the complete opposite of what he says. Are any of his draft picks in the league anymore? How is Quinton Couples, Calvin Pryor, Taj Boyd, John Connors to name a few?
it's funnny because A) "unknown source" is always BS and B) he goes on to say it's a huge mistake to take baker over allen
Tony P. has never been that great at judging talent imo. PFF was on Boomer today, they have Mayfield as their #1 overall prospect. They had Hackenberg as undraftable. Also say that Allen is who people thought Hackenberg was going to be. I agree with them. Worth a listen: https://wfan.radio.com/articles/boo...cus-steve-palazzolo-sam-monson-talk-nfl-draft
it's all clickbait fudd. i'd rather trust my eyes then people saying off the wall shit to get clicks and attention. Had PFF ranked darnold at 1, would you have linked me it? nope? guess it works PFF has been pretty poor at evaluating talent. look at this https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2016/...browns-big-board-for-nfl-draft-to-our-results that was some fan site big board compared to PFF for the 2016 draft. the fan site wound up being much more accurate PFF didn't have darren lee in the top 45, however everyone else had him top 15, we drafted him and he's been the best defensive player in that draft that we oculd have picked and better then a lot of players PFF ranked in front of him. they also didn't have hargreaves in the top 45 and he was top 15 everywhere else and a solid CB for TB since being drafted. They also didn't have will fuller in the top 45 but again he went in the 1st and is better then all the WRs they have ranked in front of him this is the list of players the fan site was not high on but PFF was DT Chris Jones OG Cody Whitehair WR Sterling Shepard OLB Jaylon Smith WR Leonte Carroo WR Rashard Higgins LB Scooby Wright III DE Jonathan Bullard DT Austin Johnson C Nick Martin That is a large list of busts right there save for 1 or 2 players. The fan site was better In short the "experts" are pretty much always wrong. If you want me to listen to an "expert" from a link, show me one with a proven track record
One thing I’ve noticed without exception here is that the people who like Allen the most refuse to believe/listen or read anything that has Mayfield ranked higher or paints him in a positive light. I wish there were more experts who analyzed all Allen’s throws/tape and came away impressed. The only things I can find are about how he threw 80 yards + looked great throwing in shorts. PFF has done a particularly good job with Qb’s They liked Goff, Wentz, Watson, Mahomes (all 1st rd grades)... Had Hackenberg as undraftable. They like Allen but don’t see him as top prospect due to the development he will need. They see him as a 2nd round grade. It’s worth a listen for sure even if you’re not a Baker fan as there is more discussed (Chubb, Barkley, etc.)... some interesting takes on them that I haven’t seen elsewhere too much...
