I keep reading Mayfield keeps moving up people's boards and his stock is at an all-time high. If that is true, then which Top 3 QB is dropping to make room for Mayfield? Darnold? Doubtful. Allen? Doubtful as he is moving up too. Has to be Rosen who many, including myself, think could be the a franchise QB and the best QB in the draft. It is going to be a crazy 3 weeks!
Bates apparently is pretty solid, I mean we did get career years out of journeyman and other coordinators, so it seems like they aren't THAT bad in comparison to previous regimes.
Yeah, I was just kidding. Hopefully Bates is the real deal. I don't know enough about him to figure out which QB in the draft he prefers. I am sure he has one or two and will have a lot of input on the pick.
it's true. bates seemed to have made diamonds out of trash lately and is very highly spoken of around the league.
The problem with that is people learn and acquire their mechanics at a young age, and as they get older i'ts very hard to overcome their initial learning. It's too bad Allen didn't have that great coaching when he was most malleable, but he isn't going to be able to relearn a lot of that now. First he's going to have to unlearn some things - especially the belief that he can use arm strength alone to perform. Yes. it can be done, but it won't be easy and it will likely mean some steps backwards first. The Long starved Jets fans may not be patient enough for this to happen.
What good do those colllege accomplishments do once drafted?They don’t mean anything. Should it be completely dismissed?Of course not.But to hone in on it as some kind of bible when there are massive variables at play & ignore other segments of the evaluation to me is just short sighted & irresponsible. The NFL is a massively different game than that of college. To ignore the drastic contrast between Mayfield’s optimal college situation compared to Allen’s crappy situation & ignore the physical portion which doesn’t contain the variable pitfalls of stats is just something I simply cannot agree with. There are QBs who light up the stat sheet in spread offenses every single year..does that make them all top 3 picks? Completion % does not equate ball placement & is not a prognosticator of future NFL success. You will not convince me of otherwise especially w Mayfield when all perceived mighty knowing PFF contradicts their own metrics by saying receivers were wide open 80% of huge time.od love to know the % of time Wyoming WRs were wide open.Im assuming that doesn’t matter in your eyes bc stats magically tell the whole story in a game of moving parts & human element
I hate to see fans compare Mayfield to "Brees" all because of a lack of height. Let me tell you something. Brees is a pure pocket passer. Mayfield on the other hand has an extreme case of Happy-Feet as soon as he senses pressure. Brees has no happy feet; Baker Mayfield does.
This is a very misguided statement. I don't even know where to begin. It's like saying if a QB in NFL guides the team to a great record, posts great stats, does extremely well, someone like you can just come along and say, well, the season is over, none of this counts. Well guess what, while you start from 0 next year, you are now a much more valuable commodity. You are telling me when Brady first won SB, played well, there were any GMs who would not give one of their testicles to get him even though he gets to start from 0 next year? So let's not discount the entire body of work here. So, you are saying the entire body of work we are aware of shouldn't be "completely" dismissed. Some gesture. What's short sighted and irresponsible is to give it as little value as I assume you do and then look just at physical aspect of a player. That same physical aspect that he already had while putting together a mediocre College career. Absolutely not. But Mayfield did a lot better than all of these guys. And while Allen's situation wasn't as good, he was playing in a weaker conference too. Besides, the gap of accomplishments between then is so massive (average QB in a low conference vs top guy and record setter for 3 years in a row in a major conference), you can't just chalk it up to "situation". Explain to me then why no good NFL QB in modern history threw 56% or less in College? Of course I am not looking just st stats as a bible, but to just write off a guy who did better than anyone else at QB position in NCAA perhaps in history is also quite short sighed and irresponsible.
It's how i feel about both. just because allen isn't worthy of a top 10 pick, doens't make mayfield worthy of one by default. we need to stop with the allen vs mayfield like they are competing with each other. Just look at them on their own merits. and the rest of the QB class. Rosen and darnold are worthy of top 10 picks, no other QB is. Mayfield is more of a 2nd round guy, allen is a late 1st rounder because of his off the charts arm. jackson is a 2nd rounder as well. If rosen and darnold are the top 2 picks, we are in a shitty situation period.
My thoughts exactly. Both Mayfield & Allen are huge reaches especially at 3. Which is why i can't stress it enough and have emphasized since day 1 of the trade up from 6th to 3rd. If both of Darnold & Rosen are off the board 1-2, well then you'd be an idiot G.M to pass up on the best overall player of this year's draft class; Saquon Barkley.

I am not disputing that size is a big issue for Mayfield, but at least there are some examples of NFL starters this year who are 6-1 or shorter. Brees and Wilson are shorter, Tyrod. Even guys like Rogers, Hoyer, Dalton, hack even McCown are only an inch taller. So, at least there are some examples in today's NFL of slightly shorter, slightly taller or same height guys who succeeded. There aren't ANY recent examples of 56% or even a little higher that succeed. Why do you think that is of College stats are completely irrelevant?
Because he graduated and put up his College #s 28 years ago. Anyone else (in modern history) comes to mind?
