Tomorrow. I would be very pleased with this signing, he is a good player and would be a solid get for us.
What's taking so long? I though we were going to snag this guy right after the Vikings picked up Sheldon.
I want this kid so bad. An All-American Ohio State product, former 2nd round draft pick, only 26 years of age and an absolute run stuffing NT/DT. Can also apply QB pressure up the middle. I wanted Suh but Hankins would become an excellent fall back option.
I hope they pull the trigger on this. This is a WAY better option than Suh. He's a great run stuffer and will bring some grit back to the Dline.
Def not a Defensive End. He's a pure DT/NT who stuffs the run up the middle along with being able to apply some QB pressure up the gut.
If he is so good, wonder why he is still available? I get the Colts cutting him switching to 4-3, but you'd expect he would have been signed by now.
He's made a few visits and hasn't signed. Perhaps he was waiting for Suh to sign before exploring his market. I get they are not the same player, but he could argue giving a 31 year old that kind of money, should up his value as a 26 year old strong run stuffer.
I am also surprised that he isn't signed yet. First Giants let him go. Now the Colts. Two teams didn't bring him back in 2 consecutive years. And he is also not signed yet. Not saying I don't like him or anything but this is just weird.
What's seems to be forgotten as an even better benefit of signing Hankins, is that this allows Williams to move outside. Don't ask me why but Blowes in his infinite wisdom utilized Williams on the interior all of last season. Williams is a much harder match up when playing on the outside. Williams true sack ability never showed last season because he was constantly fighting off double teams. Signing Hankins should free up Williams to play at DE and become the kind of nightmare match up we all think he's capable of being.
Can he play 5 technique? I kind of like our NT depth with Pennel and McLendon.. unless they feel McLendon can play the 5..
I think Leo at 5 tech, Pennel/McLendon at NT, and we have a big gap at the other 5 tech. If we sign Hankins, I'm trying to figure out where he fits in. Between him, Pennel, and McLendon, I think we'd need one of them to play 5 tech in order to get the best players on the field.
I don't know about Hankins. But McClendon could be an option. He seems versatile and I'm pretty sure Bowles moved him out at times. He's a good player. That's what I meant. Overall the rotation starts to look better too. I hope we sign Hankins.
Hankins would help our run D wherever he lines up so I'm board. If he could play some DE in the 3-4, then it's a no brainer. He'll help get pressure up the middle too, and will be versatile with subpackages. I really like McLendon also, but Hankins will provide a little extra burst.
He was a late signing in the FA period last year after Giants cut him. I recently read an article that his agent is... difficult....in negotiations, so perhaps that is the delay in his past signing and this current signing. Talented player, no baggage.. except perhaps working out a deal.
Yep, the run D gets a little better, and with the other additions they've made on D it will be fun to see how the new D will take shape. Now an OLB on the rush of the passer somehow would really help.
This would be a great signing...he's just as productive as Suh at this point without all the garbage.
