I see a growth industry in contract writing in its infancy. Pretty soon, going out on a date will require negotiations, NDA's and witnesses/chronicler just in case a movie finds its way to the internet.

Not for long if they go into contractual law. They'll make millions...

Trump now wants to use the military to guard the border while we the taxpayers pay for his stupid wall that he promised Mexico would pay for. And if he can't get it from the taxpayers he wants to use the military's budget. Makes sense right? The Military has much better things to do than stand around the Mexican border. I realize Bush and Obama used the National Guard for similar duties as well, but my guess is Trump will go the extreme on this.

He just can't accept that he made a stupid campaign promise and now is willing to build the wall at all costs.

Well, I couldn't think of a better way to ensure border security than to have desert trained soldiers patrolling the border. The terrain isn't all that dissimilar with Afghanistan's mountainous terrain and in some parts of 'Zona. Particularly the stretch between Nogales and Naco. Mostly mountainous and extremely dry. If nothing else, its cheaper and far more effective than Trump's Wall.

I'm w/you on this one. Let the free market work. Same with the tariff bullshit.

Would be nice to have them do something useful instead like build roads, build bike trails, build bridges and help fix our infrastructure.

Is it cheaper? I have no idea if it is, that's why I ask. What's the annual cost of protecting the entire southern border (where applicable) with military?

The fact of the matter is that trump failed miserably with his wall so he's trying to slip one past his group of worshippers with this new proposal.

Never forget that it was supposed to be a FREE 2,000 mile long wall, not dipping into the defense coffers

I guess it comes down to costs of keeping perhaps 5000 NG's sequestered in the various bases along the border vs. The present mix of blimps, seismic sensors and BP. Both are cheaper than Trump's multi-billion dollar Wall which will still require monitoring via BP and present tech. My last duty station was Ft. Huachuca, AZ. I could see Mexico almost and thats some really desolate unforgiving terrain. Anybody surviving walking accross that terrain deserves better than a bus trip back to Mexico.

NSM, I can't describe to you just how desolate the desert is in that part of the country. Not to mention the dangers hidden and not so hidden. Poisonous snakes and spiders, Javalina (wild pigs), coyotes, wolves and wild dogs, no water or shade. Altitude is over 3000ft. If there was clay in the soil, you might mistake it for the Martian surface.

Noooo.. Trump's big money donors don't make any cash letting things get built without a massive mark up.

All Obama and Bush ever accomplished though is they confiscated a shitload of pot and only stopped a handful of illegal Mexicans from crossing the border. Do we really want to use the NG for these purposes? I think Trump wants to plant the NG across the border and then use the military budget to build the wall. He's all in at this point.

Like it matters? If they're trying to enter our country illegally they deserve nothing more than a boot out.

I stopped believing in mystical beings with super powers when I found out there was no Santa. The fact that so many people over the course of history up to and including today believe in religion is amazing to me. It just seems like complete bullshit, I'll never get it.

A little more understandable why they believed a thousand years ago, but I am with you.

People cannot accept that we are just an insignificant and very brief speck in the universe. They need to believe their existence has some meaning to it.

    You had me at blimps.

Maybe we buy a few of those and get Goodyear to foot the bill? Think of all the advertising opportunities down there on the border.

Then the NFL sees what's happening and puts a team in Mexico City, since we all know the networks race to a blimp sighting to try to capture the event before a football game breaks out.

This is a win-win and Trump will happily take credit for it when it becomes reality. He'll claim the whole border wall thing was just to force the nefarious NFL owners to expand to Mexico, thereby creating lots of jobs to divert the flow of immigrants north to the US border.

By 2024 at the end of his second term Congress will be proposing that we build a wall on the border between the US and Mexico. Too many people trying to slip out of the country and down towards the prospect of real jobs in Mexico City. The Mexican government will be screaming about the flow of meth to Mexican towns in the interior as US workers head south.

They may even be willing to fund the wall at that point.
