That's a good point. I think the main job of Jets fans over the next coming months is to basically just pray that whoever we take works out great and becomes a franchise QB.
I haven't posted in a while because i know nobody knows how a draft pick is gonna turn out. It doesnt matter how good they were in college...the NFL is a different level. This post caught my attention because the Jags are proof u dont need a dominant qb if u have a balanced attack and a tough defense. Look how far we went with Sanchez. No Rosen...concussions...ive said it more than once...Darnold has thrown toooo many int's. Allen...big arm dont mean diddly! Baker, Lamar, Saquan(no specific order). Anyone else would be uncivilized!
Follow the money. Based on the draft slot: -A QB taken at #3 would be roughly the 28th highest paid QB in the league. -A CB taken at #3 would be roughly the 23rd highest paid CB in the league. -A DE taken at #3 would be roughly the 21st highest paid DE in the league. -An OG taken at #3 would be roughly the 13th highest paid OG in the league. -A RB taken at #3 would be roughly the 4th highest paid RB in the league. Part of the added benefit of draft picks is the ability to have young players that can outplay their cap hit. You don't want to have to invest a premium pick AND premium salary on a player.
Hi first time poster! My name is Artie and I’m addicted to the Jets!!! My current order is..... 1. Darnold- Best all round QB in the draft does it all, being a great NFL QB is as close to a lock as it comes with Darnold. Love everything about him, would move up further to get it needed and get a solid price. 2. Josh Allen- Originally I was gung-ho on Rosen as the clear cut 2, Injury concerns do worry me. Allen’s arm and movement have made him climb up my draft board. He’s faster than Baker Mayfield..............! I have fallen in love with his cannon of arm!!!!! 3. Rosen/ Barkley- 3A. Rosen was my original #2 overall but some of his charm has worn off for me. I don’t mind him but I think he has the lowest upside of the bunch other than maybe Baker. Not sure if he can make it through the grind or becoming great physically or mentally for that matter. 3B. Barkley is probably the best player in the entire draft. He reminds me of Matt Forte in his prime but 3 times as good. We would be crazy not to consider him if Allen and Darnold are gone. Starting to like him better than Rosen. We can go QB next season and secure a Bell / Zeke game changing RB, I might be in especially if Darnold and Allen are gone. Also creates an interesting trade back scienario. 4. Baker Mayfield has the heart, fire and passion and is a pretty good player. Playmaker, I like him but I would be upset if he was the pick at 3. I don’t see any value in picking him at 3! At 6 yes but not 3! Thanks
Welcome my dude! However, we would be crazy and we're not considering anything but a QB, so it's a moot point.
Getting really scared about Rosen or Mayfield busting man! What I hear is Rosen needs to be mentally challenged to stay into it. Sure just being in the NFL will be a great mental test but what if Todd Bowles and his staff can’t stiumlate Rosen mind at some point?! Then what!?!? They haven’t stimulated my mind in along while ! Baker I really haven’t been sold on at any point.
We can disagree on the QBs, but we're in a position where WE HAVE to take the chance. If not now then when?
Welcome to the board. You see no value in taking Mayfield at #3, but you do at #6? If he's a QB worth taking at #6, he's worth taking at #3. FQBs have infinitely more value than RBs do. I have a feeling you better get prepared to be upset, because I think the Jets are gonna take Mayfield. The Jets aren't taking Barkley at #3. If they do, Mac should be immediately fired and handed over to the Jets gallery at the draft so they can rip him to shreds.
Mayfield is not gonna bust. You can bank on that. He probably has the highest floor of any of the QBs.
If Baker is the pick we would have taken a wait and see approach in my mind. Stay at 6 see what happens then if needed, move up to 3,4, or 5 if needed. Baker Mayfield cannot be a top 3 pick no value in it.
That's a really bad take long-term. If Baker is just a decent QB, he is already worth the pick. That's how valuable a decent QB is.
I think we can find a Baker Mayfield type guy next year, the value will be on Barkley of it goes Darnold 1 Allen 2 as I suspect. The possibility of moving back a few spots and still getting Rosen or Baker will be ther as well.
It's interesting that you say that because I see Allen and Darnold having a much higher chance of being a bust. Rosen is the most NFL ready QB in the draft and knows WCO. He's the best pocket passer, I don't see how the Jets pass on him for Allen or Barkley. Allen has a high ceiling but will come as a project. Mayfield will as well, but he's got the right attitude for NY, it's just a matter if his game can translate to the next level. Allen definitely has some intangibles to his game, and I've seen him do great things out of the pocket and break tackles/escape sacks, but he has got to improve his accuracy.
Really? Find me a Baker quality QB in next year's draft. I dare you. You can't, because next season's crop SUCKSSSSSSSSSSS.
You can't take a wait and see approach in the draft. There simply isn't time to work out the details of a trade, and even if they had agreed in principle prior to the draft, draft day trade ups always cost more, and the other team could also change its mind and back out. The latter is how we wound up with Browning Nagle instead of Brett Favre. Sorry that you don't like Baker. I think he's the best QB prospect. He absolutely CAN be a top 3 pick. Your conception of value has no relevance or importance as far as the Jets go. It's only what Mac thinks. If Mac sees Mayfield as a FQB prospect and they love him, then he has plenty of value. To summarily dismiss him because he doesn't meet some traditional prototype is dumb, but if you're gonna play that game then Allen is not a value or worth of a top 3 pick either because he never hit a 60% completion mark in college. One could also dismiss Darnold because of all his TOs and the hitch in his throwing motion, that according to some can't be fixed. One could also dismiss Rosen because of his concussions, injury history, thin frame, lack of mobility, and possibly being difficult to coach.
LOL Guy, your posts are priceless. Please go ahead and find me a 4-year starter, who improved each year, who mastered his team's offense, was a winner, great leader, has great accuracy, is the best in the draft at extending plays, has a career 68.5 completion percentage, led the nation each of his last two seasons in a number of passing/offensive categories, won the Heisman and Davey O'Brien trophies, and set back-to-back NCAA records for Passing Efficiency.
