The report was very consistent with what Dilfer had reported, and with what Rosen's coach himself had said. There have also been similar reports going on for a couple years now. So unless it was an orchestrated effort over a multi year period, involving various media members and his own coach, I don't think this is standard pre draft misdirection. There were pre-draft reports on Geno Smith's attitude, arrogance, aloofness as well, which many here dismissed as bullshit. We know how that ended. Getting along with coaches and teammates is absolutely critical in this sport, especially at a position of leadership like QB.
Idk dude, what they tell the media the working order is one thing. But they are brothers, I'm sure they talk a lot. In most times it shouldn't matter how a player feels politically. But we live in a time where everyone is sensitive and butt hurt. Especially people associated with this president, of which woody is. Plus this is the Jets were talking about. We have a long history of dumbass, non football reasons, for missing out on certain players. I could easily see big brother Woody shooting the shit with Chris. "How's the draft lookin'?" "Good, we are going to get a QB, maybe Josh Rosen" "That's not the one with the 'fuck trump' hat is it?" "uhhh yes it is actually" "don't draft him." I mean does anyone think that would be a surprise? I don't
I could see the Jets not taking Rosen if one of their other top 3 are available for that reason. I wonder if politics is why it is reported that we did not even make an offer to Demario Davis due to his social justice work. Woody is very far right extreme and I would imagine his brother is not far off. But keep in mind the Jets traded up to 3 so they have to be happy with at least 3 of the QBs and are ready to take one of those 3. Presumably Rosen would be one of the 3.
Honestly, they are very different people. It could go that way, but it could also go this way ... Woody - "Don't draft Rosen; hes anti-trump" Chris - "Fuck you Big Brother, I'm trying to win a chip" "Im the acting owner now" Sibling rivalry at its best ... what Woody gonna come back from Overseas and try and veto the deal? I mean all of the predraft visits, etc - if Woody never wanted Rosen here, they wouldn't have allowed him to scout him in full. Waste of time no?
Woody can stay in the UK for the next 6 years if it means he won't be running the Jets. While I'm not sure how Chris will turn out to be as an owner, he's already a million times better than his older brother was.
I can't see the Jets passing on Rosen for his political views. But teams generally do not like distractions or using their employment as a platform for divisive issues. So it could be a factor in that sense.
It would be funny if the Jets are most successful or the foundation for success is established during Woody's absence a la George Steinbrenner.
I'm not saying that Woody does much at all with the team now, but if he has a preference for something or against something, I'm sure his voice will be heard. How's that "divestiture stuff" working with Trump & family?
Dilfer's done a 180 on that though. He's very positive about Rosen now and thinks he's the best QB in this class. http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/new...e-11-browns-giants/1v6da6sekzr4n15ti8b1h50afj If you're looking for people who directly slam Rosen it's hard to find them at this point. The quotes are mostly based off of the first year he was at the Elite 11 camp that Dilfer runs. They're based off of anonymous reports that he challenged a team in the Combine interviews. Now if you were that team and Rosen went off on you wouldn't you just hide that fact so that somebody else would pick him in front of you and promote a better player to your pick? On the other hand if you wanted a better shot at Rosen in the draft one thing you might try is to anonymously leak that notion, which in combination with the Elite 11 stuff might drop Rosen down to somewhere closer to your pick and more attainable in a trade. Dilfer is doing a commendable job of trying to reverse the impression that he got from and gave of Rosen that first year at his camp. He says he was very impressed with Rosen's decision to come back as a counselor last year. The fact that he invited Rosen back tells us that Rosen added something to the picture. The fact that he chooses at this point to downplay Rosen's demeanor at the first camp tells us that he saw a more mature player the second time around.
His voice might be heard, but I don't think the Jets would consider his word at this stage. That "divestiture stuff" reminds me of Step Brothers when the family argues. Non-productive.
As I’ve scoured to find more info, it seems a lot of NFL scouts feel Rosen in the best pure/natural thrower in this class and it’s not even really close to compare him and the other guys... he’s not just better, but a lot better... Which begs the question, just how bad is this guy’s attitude/personality... Given we don’t know what teams are thinking I’m less inclined to rule out any of these qbs at this point.
yeah Dilfer doing a lot of back tracking, as is Mora. no one wants to adversely effect the draft stock of a premium prospect. It's really not fair to the prospect. You typically are not going to find scout or GM names attached to any negative report on a player. That's just standard. However, I don't see how this report would be a leak. It contained no new information, just reiterating what has already been reported over the last couple years.....that Rosen doesn't take direction or criticism well, as he knows it all already. he can also be obnoxious and condescending at times. If you are taking Rosen, you are doing so assuming you can manage that personality. that's a big risk.
Is he a good prospect but a douche in all other respects OR is he so good, I don’t want to say anymore: Bowles on Rosen - “We know that he can throw the football and he’s a good prospect. So that’s about as far as I can tell you.”
The problem I have with the report is that it sounds like something that Rosen absolutely would not do in a Combine interview when one of the things he was fighting against was the perception that he pushes back. If it happened it was not a smart move and whatever else you can say about Rosen he's clearly smart enough to know that he needed to present well in those interviews.
Yes, Rosen is a smart guy. but so are the interviewers. they intentionally set up questions to get a reaction out of you, just to see how you handle it. If coachability or personality is in question, they are going to push every button to find out themselves. They have the ability to cut through the polite facade. I see a lot of you guys are just choosing to ignore all the reports on Rosen, considering it fake news. But you have to admit, there is a common thread across them all, and his own HC did confirm some of his personality tendencies. He's got a lot of Cutler traits imo. We will see on draft day. I'm expecting he will be there at 3, and if the Jets pass he could slide a bit. If he does slide, it means the interviews didn't go well.
I wanted to say this too his coach ( MORA ) didnt do him any favours on tv , saying sam darnold is a more agressive competitor and that he would take him #1 and that josh needs to know every why when you tell him to run the play , he did say however that josh is the better pure passer of the football.
The only worry that I have about Rosen's attitude is that he will look at football as a first job and not be all that terrified of moving on if things don't go so well. That's why my main concern is finding out how much he loves football and wants to be great. It both of those things are true I wouldn't touch anybody else in this draft over him. If he wants to be great he's very likely to make that happen.
If he puts in the work, he can earn $30+mil per year on his 2nd contract. There's no other career he can switch to that will pay him anything close to that.
