Darnold had a bad 2017 season, big drop off from 2016 (but still probably the best bet). Josh Allen needs time but probably has a higher potential (definitely has a better arm). So, yeah, as long as there aren't any d-lineman sitting there at 3. You and I would pick Darnold. But we aren't Macc. Macc has made some bonehead draft picks, true head scratchers, so anything is possible.
what exactly defines a "better arm"... 1 who can throw the ball through a brickwall or 1 who can place it where it needs to be for a completion??? we had a guy named browning nagle... that didn't go so well... funny thing is Montana, Steve Young, Brady etc. were Never talked about as having a "big" arm yet they've won & excelled at it... I want a winner not someone who doesn't know how to read defenses & use touch when required... I'll say it again... Looking good in shorts & tees means ZERO when you don't look so good in pads.
Macc says he's comfortable with picking 3rd because there are 3 players he's comfortable drafting. Didn't say if they were all QB's. I'd assume Mayfield is not one of those 3.
Sadly mayfield can't do either. his deep passes float. he throws behind receivers in motion and throws high down the field. 2 things that lead to INTs in the NFL but you can get away with in college. His game doesn't translate well into the NFL
What a terrible post. Either you repeated crap or made up crap. This is what happens when you have a ton of action for 1 week followed by crickets..... They traded up because after the combine and pro days, they decided that there are at least 3 Franchise QBs in this draft and they'll be plenty happy to draft whoever is the top QB remaining on their board at pick #3.
Thanks for letting me know this was a terrible post. I put rumor in the thread. A rumor is defined as "a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth." So yes I repeated some information that I heard. I was wondering what others heard and was trying to figure out what could be true. Not including you 410 comments have been made about this post so people are interested and would like to discuss it. Maybe it is not the best post or of interest to others but since we hold the third pick and no one knows what we are doing I figured one thread would be good to post any rumors we hear. I appreciate your input on how poor of a post this is. Hopefully my next post is better and it appeases you. Thanks for your input and I look forward to many more critiques from you. I'm assuming if you were to grade this post it would be a 1 or 2. Hopefully next time I can raise it to a 3 or 4. Have a nice day.
The GM with his team of scouts and coaches are the closest thing to experts. But experts make mistakes, but I'll trust them over ESPN and NFL analysts and Peter King, who knows shit about college players and bases his opinion on the same crap we read.
You never know. They could like ONE of the QB's at 3rd overall and if that QB is gone by pick 3? Who's to say that Macc doesn't go after the best player within the entire draft and steal Barkley at 3rd overall? Barkley would NOT have been there at 6. The trade up means we could be in position to draft Barkley ala the #1 blue chip prospect outside of Darnold. Which is why we Re-Signed McCown and testing the waters on Bridgewater while still having Hack-Petty as of right now. Can easily take us into next years offseason draft and FA in search of our franchise QB. But if Macc can win and win now with Barkley aka a HB who's deserving of the #1 overall pick? Then those 3 2nd round draft picks would become MORE than worth it for Barkley at 3 if we're able to walk away from the draft with the PRIZE of the draft in Barkley. Because at 6 the BEST PLAYER in Barkley would NOT have been there. But will be there at 6 unless NYG snatch him. Look. If Darnold and Rosen are both gone 1-2 there is a great chance Macc pulls the plug on Barkley to INSTANTLY improve our entire offensive attack. While giving either of McCown or Bridgewater a real shot at having a magical season with Barkley rushing and receiving out of the backfield and yes; SCORING TD'S. You don't take the 3rd QB option when the #1 overall player in Barkley is there at 3.
I get it, you're a Barkley homer and think he is the messiah, but in no universe did we trade 3 2nds in a super deep RB class for Barkley. We would've sooner stayed at 6 and keep our picks while getting 80-90% of Barkley in round 2, than move up for a RB (no team without a QB takes one that high). You can try and convince yourself all you like, but this move was made for a QB, and the sooner you come down to reality and reason, the sooner you won't be upset when we don't select Barkley for one of the big four QBs.
A lot of people debate whether you should draft a RB in the top 5. Some are starting to debate whether you should draft them at all in the 1st round since the drop off in talent from 1st round prospects to 3rd/4th round prospects isn't huge. With QBs, LTs and edge rushers, it's huge. We all know some of the best RBs in the league aren't 1st rounders....Bell, McCoy, Johnson, Hunt, Kamara, etc. I believe Barkley is special, and he is worth a top 10 selection. But he isn't worth a 6th overall pick, and 3 2nd rounders. The Jets would get ripped apart for trading up all that capital for a RB. Just end the Barkley talk. It's not happening. We're going QB. And you do take the #3 QB Option over the #1 overall player if that #3 QB is still projected to be elite at THE most important position on the field, as that position also has a huge drop off in talent to the 2nd round. Hell, some drafts don't even have 1 elite QB in it. If the Jets were to pass on a QB and one of the available QBs become elite, we'd be criticized for the next few decades. Don't get caught looking for strike 3. Also, you would never trade up to just hope that a player may still be available then. You do it knowing that at least 3 players are worth the draft capital you spent to get there.
I disagree. The Browns know that the Jets have to take a QB and that they didn't trade up to #3 to take Barkley. The Jets don't have the Browns at all. All Cleveland would have to do is call the Jets' bluff. If the Jets were to take Barkley, Mac should be fired on the spot, if not handed over to the Jets fans in the gallery and let them rip him to shreds.
edit: the draft can't come soon enough. . And phuck the ballwashing about a QB who plays for the effin' Kansas City Chiefs. Darnold, Mayfield or Rosen: wtf, let's go. . . Allen: hoping for the best. Hey if we end up picking Mayfield , I hope he's Brees reincarnate. .
