I guess that depends on when and which article. But in regards to QB rumor articles of late they have been writing speculative opinion articles only with out anonymous sources or something other than a page hit article. As much as we like to bash beat writers that is not always the case. They often do have sources and they protect those sources. At some point we should begin to see articles with more substance and actual references to undisclosed sources. When we see that we should be able to better draw conclusions. Often the best knowledge we get from reading beat writer articles is not what is said but how it is said. Right now it appears all the articles I have seen are just articles written for the sake of cashing in on the fan feeding frenzy that is ongoing with the trade up. Nothing that appears to show actual knowledge more than the particular writers speculation.
Every new regime wants their own QB. They have an opportunity right now to set themselves up for a long time. Eli's play has been declining and he is old. Perfect timing to bring in a successor.
1) If they have no idea what they are doing at this point, they need to be escorted off the premises. 2) Yeah that one would make me physically sick. Macc career will be over. He will have a anchor around him with Hackenberg and Allen as his legacy.
It seems everybody has latched on to their own favored notion of how this should go down. Where are the nuts that we haven't heard from yet? Where is the guy who thinks Bridgewater is the future, and we're drafting Chubb? Where is the guy who is is still committed to Hackenburg as the answer, and thinks we traded up to force the Bills to pay us, rather than the Colt's, a king's ransom, and we're really drafting Calvin Ridley at #12? Where's the guy who thinks the real goal is Mason Rudolph in the 3rd? If we're gonna go crazy, I want to see some CRAZY.
This is the best place to be...When no pundits know what the Jets are doing, and that means the Jets are keeping things close
Best case scenario to me would be Cleveland @ 1: Darnold, Allen or Barkley Giants @ 2: Barkley or Nelson Us at 3: Rosen or Mayfield although I think Macc isn't high on Baker. Or this could be management playing it very close to the chest so Buffalo or Denver doesn't make the jump to 2 for Mayfield
Remember back in the old days when we used to broadcast everything trying to win the back pages..? We couldn't keep our mouths shut about anything EVER!.
I keep reading we won’t take Barkley. Why wouldn’t they especially if they feel bridgewater can be there qb for the next 10 yrs his knee was ok for Vikings and he passed physical for jets. He very well could be their franchise qb. I read articles that said the only reason why bridgewater didn’t get his job back was they didn’t want to change the team with the way Keenum was playing. If he was 500 bridgewater would of started again. Barkley is one of the best prospects in a long time. To say no way they don’t take him is wrong. It’s the jets remember Blair Thomas. Vernon gholston etc etc etc
Problem is that knee is a big IF. I wouldn't mind Teddy as my franchise QB but at the same time how often do the Jets get this opportunity? We are usually just good enough to land us outside of drafting a top QB. Can't take the risk here. Gotta take QB.
This made me laugh because I actually think (assuming health) that Bridgewater might be a decent "solution" at QB and drafting Chubb might not be a bad idea. I think my top three might be 1) Darnold 2) Allen 3) Chubb. I wanted to take a 2nd round RB to go with our other guys rather than Barkley high. Mind you I personally wouldn't have traded up the #3 and cost all those picks. That and his contract only being 1 year makes it pretty clear to me that the Jets don't consider Bridgewater a long term solution... I just don't understand why that is. Maybe his physical situation is more shaky that I realize? I'm also starting to wonder how much the Browns (if they even do at all) love Darnold. What exactly would it cost to just take that #1 pick and be done with it? I didn't want to go down this road but we've already come this far, if next years #1 would just ice it right here and now and get us Darnold maybe we should just do that and get our guy for the next 10-15 years. Unless they are absolutely locked on somebody as their #1 can't-not-get guy I would think making a deal with us would be a great move for the Browns wouldn't it? You could still do some damage with the #3 and #4 picks not to mention whatever the rest of the ransom would be.
Well quite simply they don’t think Bridgewater can be their franchise QB for next 10 years. If seeing the details of his contract wasn’t enough proof of that, trading up to 3 for a QB 6 weeks before the draft certainly should.
You keep reading it because it's the truth and the only thing that makes any sense. They don't even know that Bridgewater is healthy, much less think he can be their QB for the next 10 years. They signed him for several reasons. 1) He's young and a very good player when healthy; 2) Due to his injury he's cheap and available; 3) He gives Mac two chances to find a FQB this season; 4) If healthy and not too rusty, he's better than McCown; 5) Along with McCown and the rookie, they'd have the best depth at QB that they've had in a long time, and it would enable them to let the rookie sit and learn his rookie season; 6) It gives them options. If he wins the starting job and plays very well, they can sign him long term, they can tag and trade him, or they can let him walk in FA and possibly get a 3rd round compensatory pick. If he doesn't win the starting job or doesn't play all that well, he still might play well enough to be worth keeping for the future as their backup. Between the rookie and Teddy, the Jets could be set at QB for the next 10-15 years. 7) He's a leader and has great character. Not only could he be a big help with the rookie QB, but also in the locker room and on the field in helping to establish the culture the Jets want. Teddy doesn't quit. He works hard to overcome the odds. Mac didn't trade away 3 - 2nd round draft picks to move up to take Barkley. With all the Jets' holes/needs, and with all the very good-great RB prospects in the draft aside from Barkley (Michel, Guise, Johnson, Penny, Chubb, Scarbrough, Royce Freeman, etc.), only a moron would trade away all those picks for a RB, and still not be certain of getting a FQB prospect. If they knew Teddy was the answer, they would probably have either stayed put at #6 and taken Chubb, or traded down, garnered another 2nd (and maybe even another pick), and improved the team's talent at 3-4 more positions before the 3rd round. If Barkley fell to #6 they might have taken him, but they could have taken Chubb and then taken a very good RB prospect with one of their 2nd round picks, and that would have helped the team more than just Barkley.
