We can agree to disagree. I'm not a talent evaluator, but guys like Mayock, Kiper, McShay, reports from Cimini are all rating Allen quite high. In the end, I think the Giants are going to take Allen after Darnold goes to the browns, so it won't matter. We're probably getting Rosen whom I would be happy with as well.
I actually agree with you. I think Allen is a great fit with the Giants. He will get time to develop and hopefully learn a lot behind Eli. Would be ecstatic with Rosen. Though I’m not putting him behind our line as it is.
Any breakdown tape is going to be really condensed and omit the majority of a player's work. Short of watching every minute of every game, which I don't have the time, nor the desire to do, looking at these types of analyses is useful IMO, as long as you don't just look at one or two. If you watched 5 full games, I would certainly hope that there was much more good than bad, otherwise everyone has this guy WAAAAAAY overrated! But the bad things are things that he might not be able to correct. With that in mind, I think he does a pretty balanced examination and points out a lot of pros, and some cons. I don't think it was a hatchet job, I think he was trying to show a composite picture, touching on the areas that have been hot buttons. While he may have the "ability to throw crisp, accurate, and well times passes", he doesn't always do that, and that's a concern. And I don't know if I'd call it "wilting", but he certainly showed a tendency to bail out with his feet early rather than climb the pocket, or even roll out with the intention to pass. What will he do against much bigger faster pass rushers? His feet won't allow him to escape that easily then.
You may be right , who knows. Mayfield I think, can make more of an immediate impact more so than Allen who may need to sit for a while. But I still feel that Allen has more of an upside. In the end , whomever they chose I will root hard for.
I actually think it would benefit them all to sit a year honestly. I dont think any of them can walk im immediately and make an impact the way we want to. Btw, i dont think Allen is terrible, hes just not a first round talent. Give him time to sit about a year or so and he can work on his mechanics. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Comparing the films between both teams I didn't see Rosen run for his life as much as Allen, but I wouldn't dispute that Rosen had it tough also. His durability is the big question.
If Bridgewater can make a comeback, and indications form Vikings fans point to that, the Jets can afford a player like Allen to sit. This is what I think the strategy of Mac has planned to position himself. Sign Bridgewater/McCown and have the FQB sit. Sorry, I just can't Mac taking a 6.0 QB on #3 - I think he has sites set on the other 3.
This guy sucks lol he needs alot of work and we dont have the time or the coaches around to make him a good QB , if mac takes this guy on upside it will be a horrible mistake . thats why the trade up to 3 scares me because if darnold and rosen are off the board he will take allen over mayfield because of upside size etc etc while mayfield today is a way better player then josh allen.
I don’t see how Allen is a good fit in the West Coast offense (which predicated on spreading teams out - with short, accurate, timing passes + throwing with anticipation). It’s all about being a good rythm thrower + super arm strength is not something that is necessary. With that, it’s not far fetched to think Rosen and Mayfield probably are 1+2 on their board + perhaps this give support to why the Jets were comfortable moving to 3 (vs 1 or 2). One or both will definitely be there. In addition, go listen to Rosen and Mayfield speak and then Allen... they are far more articulate, confident + far ahead in football acumen.
Lol can mayock get Allen’s dick out of his mouth long enough to give an objective analysis? Who gives a flying fuck if a ball goes 80 yards in the air if it lands 5 yards from the receiver?!
If you watched his tape and watch him now, you can see tremendous improvement. You're not being fair to him, tbh.
TBF, Mayock's last comment before the interview did note that there's a BIG difference between throwing in shorts on an open field and throwing against live players.
Lol Mayock was really enjoying it too much. Throwing passes with no pressure tho doesn't mean much imo. His footwork dropping back and the arm looked great, but that isn't news. I will say the long ball is near effortless tho. Will have the strongest arm in NFL.
Not saying he looked bad. Just saying it’s ridiculous for Mayock to rave over him throwing the ball 5 yards past his receiver.
I will grant you that some throws were meh, but others weren't caught because his WR's have no speed. Lol
As long as he doesn't have Cutler's attitude, I don't get how the Cutler comp is bad. He was the 11th pick in his draft behind Vince Young and Matt Leonard. From a strictly talent perspective, was that a bad pick?
