We don't have those options. Mac is not going to take Barkley. If he does, he knows he'll never work in the NFL again. He has to get a QB this offseason. You don't trade up to take a RB, regardless of how great he may be.

I repeat: welcome to draft season, where nothing you hear means anything

One thing you can say about Mac is that the front office has been very tight lipped under his control. There’s no way the media knows who he likes 5 weeks out.

it's surely possible i guess, but man i hope it's not true. i hope it's a smoke screen to get cleveland to grab him 1st overall instead of thinking they can get barkley and take mayfield 4th or even baiting the giants into taking him 2nd overall

True. I think they do like Mayfield, just prefer Rosen and Darnold, but if he falls to #3 and Rosen and Darnold are gone, I truly hope that Mac has brains enough to take Mayfield rather than Allen. Screw what the traditionalists say about Mayfield being short and having played in a spread offense. He is the smarter, safer pick than Allen. Mac can't afford to have his FQB prospect bust, and that's a pretty high likelihood with Allen. There's little or no chance that Mayfield will bust.

  8. I don't want to be mistaken wherein it appears I don't like Mayfield...b.c there is alot to like. There is definitely a dynamic element to his playing style & I don't doubt for a second he'll at the very least be a starting QB in the NFL.I'm also not opposed to the jets drafting him & will be thrilled if they land him.

That said..of the "Big 4"(Yes 4..not 3,lol) I prefer Allen & have him #3 while Mayfield I have 4th. You have conviction for Mayfield so I'm certain you'll disagree w. me..and thats fine. I just think that Allen fits the Meadowlands better due to his superior size, arm strength & fits what Bates wants to do better w. his superior mobility & physical strength. I think Mayfield can get outside of the pocket as well but he's not quite the athlete & given his size may not be built as well to take the physical punishment that comes w. leaving the pocket.

Intangibles wise I think is a wash. Mayfield will bring more energy & swagger but might have a controversy/disruption or 2. Allen is more of a hard working lead by example type. Everything I've read about Allen suggests that he is a great leader & I don't think you have the potential controversy risk w. him that exists w. Mayfield. I'll give the edge to Mayfield on football IQ..but I wanna hear more about Allen in that regard. The interviews I've seen lead me to believe he has some football nerd in him that he holds back from the public.

I think all things considered their similar level prospects. Mayfield is definitely more ready to play..but Allen has a much higher upside. Given the fact that who ever we draft is liking sitting for year 1 sort of makes this aspect a wash in my estimation(Unless Allen needs longer than year in which case he's a no go). At the end of the day it's merely a flavor preference. I'll take Tthe size, athleticism & arm strength from a guy who did more w. less over the more accurate energizer bunny who had great stats/accolades but played w. a more favorable scheme/surrounding cast.

What can i say? Some people like Burger king better than Mcdonald's..

and is a good example to judge. i'm not worried about baker off the field though. I just dislike his lack of talent at #3 overall. it would be the worst pick the jets have made and set us back 5 years and guarantee mac gets the axe. sanchez was 5 times the talent of baker and cuoldn't cut it in the NFL. read the 1st article as well. the baker fans here are flat out delusional, i'm just hoping mac isn't

His brain is prolly still wet. I love this stuff here where people know Mac's thinking and know which QB is sure fire and which QB people are delusional over.
Usually somebody will throw a name or an instance from the past as their proof.

    ps I fixed your quote

You're right, I disagree (albeit respectfully), but no one said that we have to agree. LOL

I can understand why you like Allen better and why you think Mac will take Allen over Mayfield, and you could definitely be right about the latter. Allen does have a higher ceiling IF he can fix his accuracy issues, has a better football IQ than it seems, and can develop better touch. That's a big IF, however imo. Mac may have a "type" of QBs he likes, and so may prefer Allen over Mayfield, or may take him out of desperation because he has to find a QB.

Initially, I had said that if the Jets didn't trade up and had stayed at #6 and if Allen was the QB who dropped, I would take him, but now I think I've changed my mind. Even though one doesn't give up multiple picks to move up for a RB, one might do that for a stud edge rusher. Unless in private workouts I was convinced that Allen had a high football IQ and thought his accuracy/touch issues could be fixed, and I didn't like Mayfield or he wasn't available, I think I'd take Chubb, look to take a RB or Ragnow with the 3rd round pick, and pray that Teddy was healthy and would prove to be our FQB. Allen's bust potential scares the bejeebers out of me.

As far as arm strength, Mayfield's is just a notch below Allen's, and he has much greater accuracy when throwing hard than Allen does. In fact Mayfield has greater accuracy period. Allen may never even begin to approach a 60% completion percentage. Mayfield has off the charts accuracy and QBR when throwing on the run, a good bit better than Allen, and has most of the best marks over the last 4 years over every single collegiate QB. Mayfield is also great on 3rd downs, and I think more elusive than Allen. It will be easier for opposing D players to grab Allen because of his size, whereas Mayfield can duck under or quickly sidestep tacklers.

Mayfield is a hard working lead by example type just as much, and probably more than Allen. Mayfield walked on both at Texas Tech and Oklahoma and won over the CSs and the starting job and excelled. He's a more fiery competitor than any of the other QBs.

I don't believe there will be any controversies with Mayfield in the NFL. I think that he has learned his lesson, and has good character, he just let his emotions get out of control due to some immaturity. Sitting for a year and learning from McCown and Teddy, I think he will be great.

I'm not worried about that stuff, my point was simply he has huge bust potential. some seem to think he's some surefire prospect but he's not. it's all based on nothing but BS. not a single person mentioned mayfield during the season. he's a hot name rising up the board right form my first link

Mayfield will likely fall in line with the many other great college quarterbacks who won the Heisman trophy but flamed out in the NFL: Robert Griffin III. Johnny Manziel. I’m calling Jameis Winston a bust right now. Sam Bradford. Tim Tebow. Troy Smith. Matt Leinart. Jason White. Eric Crouch. Chris Weinke. Danny Wuerffel. Gino Torretta. Charlie Ward. Ty Detmer. Andre Ware.

Those quarterbacks have won the Heisman trophy since 1989, all were NFL busts.

If Mayfield is smart, he will simply figure it out and try to get paid for as long as he can. Guys like former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Missouri star Chase Daniel aren’t starters, but they are NFL veterans cashing six-figure checks.

If Mayfield can make it that far, he’s a smashing success who will never buy a drink or dinner in Norman, Okla., for the rest of his life.

i'm guessing the part where nobody mentioned him here until a month ago and now he's the 2nd coming of tom brady all of a sudden? Never trust the rising the QB. if mayfield was all that, he would have been talked about a long time ago. hell darnold was talked about after 1 year as the best prospect since luck. mayfield is a 4 year starter who nobody seen as an NFL QB until a month ago. that's a huge red flag. and when you watch his tape, his highlights are very unimpressive

Bet you find a post from me ;)

But that doesn't matter. I'm sure others did too. Mayfield's been on the radar for a long time man.

have you watched any? he's all in a spread offense in the shotgun which translates poorly to the NFL, on top of that, most of it is throwing to some pretty wide open WRs. he does a good job buying time and throwing on the run, but his range is very limited when on the run and his mechanics are poor. I never see him stand tall in the pocket (because he's barely 6 foot) survey the field, and make a good throw into coverage. things an NFL QB needs to do every play. in short, don't buy into the hype he'll be the next brady quinn and colt mccoy
