Mahomes has more arm talent for sure. Allen has much more size, athleticism, experience in pro style system and playing in the elements. From a personality standpoint, I'd also rather work with Allen. While they both have strong arms, they are totally different prospects. I agree with another poster that Mayfield and Mahomes prob a better comparison.
I don't think half of us will make it to draft day. We will have nervous breakdowns before we get there.
A better comparison in terms of both being spread QBs yeah. Accomplishments & successes though? no contest, the edge leans heavily in Mayfield's favor. Mayfield also comes in more experienced - 48 starts to 32
Fair enough, Mayfield is more accomplished. I was thinking system, physical traits, and even confidence (bordering on cockiness) are comparable.
I don't like dislike Mayfield; I just don't like Mayfield at 3. The reason I love Mahomes IS because he was more than your usual Spread QB. You are right; he is Baker on steroids but I believe there's a much bigger gap between he and Mayfield than you do. Besides the arm talent and size, Mahomes' anticipation, accuracy, ball placement and ability/willingness to fit balls into tight windows (pause) is far more superior than Baker's IMHO. He also had better production with a weaker supporting case. I wouldn't trade up for a guy who I feel is far lesser version of the guy I passed on the year before although that is a very Jetsy thing to do. To be fair I don't feel real good about any of these guys at 3. I would lean towards Rosen then Allen only because the former is the safest while the latter has the biggest upside.
Good point on Mac passing on Mahomes making it less likely he traded up for a lesser version of him. I think if Mac gets his choice he’ll go with Rosen because he’s ready to start week 1. Tons of snaps under center, perfect mechanics, pro style offense... I think he’s the only one that belongs on the field at the start of this season.
i don't think the decision criteria should involve getting on the field the quickest. Who can stay on the field the longest is more important. This decision is for the long haul.
You and all the pundits..of course he is also the one who could be hanging up the cleats for good if he takes one good slap in the head.
Concussions and supposed character concerns aside, I am worried a bit about scheme fit with him. Bates is Mike Shanahan disciple. Shanahan's is a WCO guy. Rosen has been on record saying he dislikes the WCO. Furthermore, Shanahan's WCO was run heavy behind zone blocking; it was notorious for routinely churning out 1,000 yard rushers from late round/UFA running backs. The passing attack was built off of that potent running attack, with play action, bootlegs and design rollouts attacking the intermediate to deep part of the field. Throwing on the move is not Rosen's strength but coincidentally it is one of Allen's. To run his offenses Mike Shanahan tended to gravitate towards big arm athletic QBs (e.g., Elway, Cutler, McNabb, RGIII...etc.) when given the choice. Again something else pointing to Allen's favor. But we'll see if Bates adopts the same type of WCO, goes for a more for the traditional WCO or different direction completely, a Rosen friendly one.
So in your world we sit back and wait for a less desirable qb at 6 or stick with "I can't believe I made it 13 games" mccown. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Ok we upgraded our 1st round pic, but it cost us 2 2nd this year and a second next year. Better? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I'll try to find it but remember him saying that in an interview or something a few years ago. I remember thinking that's one very opinionated kid; you never hear that coming out of the mouth of a young QB.
We should trade our 2nd round picks every year. They always end up being busts, why not get something for them.
I'm pretty sure that I stated the terms of the trade quite literally. You can translate those terms into a message board interpretive dance with Macc's balls on your face if you like, but only the hipsters will appreciate the show.
