I would maybe take Baker with our 3rd rd pick, but probably would choose Mike White Western Kentucky instead...
Yeah he’s off my board at 3....I would have maybe rolled the dice at 6 but can’t justify trading up for a QB with major injury concerns I also don’t really want Allen at 3 either after looking into it more Honestly the only 3 players I’d be happy with are Mayfield, Darnold, and Barkley If Mayfield and Darnold go 1-2 and they are dead set on a QB then trade down again I guess haha
I want Darnold more than anything... I would take Mayfield, its risky but its intriguing. I dunno enough about Allen to form an opinion either way. He has a lot of haters though which is odd
How confident are people who support Allen that his accuracy, anticipation, and decision-making can be improved to the point where he can be a franchise QB? And is this franchise one that you have confidence in to develop him into that? It seems like a big leap to me that he can overcome all of this and be the QB this team has lacked for almost 50 years.
Allen could end up being the best QB but he’s pretty risky to me...he has some highlights that are pretty awesome though, like throws on the run you just don’t see much of anywhere. I would atleast understand it if we went that way Mayfield and Darnold are my two favorite QB prospects by far this year
I like Saquon Barkley a lot but I think you could probably rule him out at this point. If they stayed at 6 and by some miracle Barkley fell, then yeah I could've seen it happening and would be for it. But giving up all those draft picks to move up like that? You don't do that for anything but a quarterback. Plus they signed Crowell. They are gonna draft a QB. I would be completely shocked if they didn't.
This is a pretty good, balanced analysis IMO of Allen: Bottom line for me, I can see possibility, but that's not enough certainty. The Jets need a guy they can count on to come in and deliver SOMETHING, even mop up, spot start, duties this year, not wait for a year or two to even have an idea if he's their FQB or Hackenstein. Rosen is that guy; Mayfield would be a close 2nd; Darnold probably could start this year too, but more likely needs a year of clipboard duties.

I think the interview process and wonderlic is actually important. One of the things I hate about Mayfield is he just acts like a punk. I don't see that as serving him well in NYC. One of the things that made Wentz an almost can't miss prospect was his interviews, wonderlic and photographic memory. He apparently blew people away in his interviews. You can never underestimate work ethic and basic intelligence coupled with a calm demeanor in a long term franchise QB. If the guys dumb as a stump you probably can't turn him into a great decision maker. You want Dan Marino's arm, Joe Montana's cool and Tom Brady's wife.
I'm with you. I think Rosen is the best QB in this draft, but I expect him to have a very short career due to injury. Especially if he lines up behind this Jets line. Darnold has those pesky mechanical and footwork issues that every coach thinks they can fix, but which almost nobody ever actually manages to fix. Allen has the arm--but he doesn't seem to be able to hit anything with it, and his brains are questionable, too. At least he's huge. Huge guy with a big arm...he might be Big Ben, or he might be JaMarcus Russell. Mayfield is short and hot-headed. Neither of these things bother me so much, though. I am concerned that his accuracy stats are B.S. He's not as bad as Allen, where he'll miss a HB in the flat by 20 yards, but he was almost always throwing to a wide-open receiver--much more so than any of the other three. The Jets haven't experienced a wide-open receiver wearing their uniform in 20 years.
The Jets could use a little attitude (punk). And Mayfield's ability to process information and pick up concepts has blown the people who have interviewed and watched him away. In the end it comes down to what a guy can do on the field, not conjecture about "attitude" and personality. Manziel's problem wasn't his attitude, it was his liking to party more than play football.
I want Darnold, but I think he's going 1 or 2. Therefore I want Rosen. If both are gone and it's Allen vs. Mayfield..... I have no idea which can of worms I want to open in that scenario.
I don't compare Mayfield in any way to Manziel. Attitude is not the same thing as acting like a punk. When you play against teams who are completely overmatched in talent and coaching every week you really don't need to act like a punk.
I've been a Texas A&M fan for years and loved Manziel's college years but always thought he'd never make it in the pro's - great at sandlot football but you need more than that for the pros. Mayfield to me is akin to Manziel but so so much more. Great character, great skills, ticks so many boxes as a leader - but height is a small downer. Same for Rosen. It's all there but his potential frailty is a worry (especially with our OL) Darnold is up there but the turnovers in his last year worry me. Was he trying too hard to be the No.1 college QB or does he really have issues with small hands, cold weather and pressure? But glad we traded to #3 as all three are exciting and the best coming from college for ages. 2019 QB's don't look anywhere near this talent. For my two cents I can't separate them all as they're all different but all have great leadership, all use their skillset to their best advantage etc. but if you had to push me 1. Rosen 2. People on this board have their heads in the sand on all his red flags. Concussions may be the biggest flag, especially as a statue in the pocket. Personality a major concern for me. And I don't hear a peep about his inconsistency or issues on the road for some reason. This guy hasn't proved he can play well outside of sunny southern Cal. Next cold weather win will be his first, and the team was winless on the road. Yet it goes unacknowledged.
Guy, no offense meant, but all I can say is if you think Riley Ferguson is the best college QB you saw this year, then you need to have your eyes checked. I can understand thinking that all the top QBs are overrated, since Rosen has the concussion issue and didn't play all that well this season and Darnold fell back to earth as well. I can understand having some concerns about Mayfield due to his immature actions, his being shorter than ideal and having played in a spread offense. I cannot even begin to fathom thinking that Ferguson is better than any of those three, Allen or Falk. I've only seen some snippets of Ferguson, but have seen each of the other top 6-7 QBs play quite a bit, and have done a lot of reading on the QB prospects. Most see Ferguson as a late round prospect. The other thing is that with the improvements the Jets have made this offseason and will continue to make, and with a year's experience for last year's rookies and young players in the Jets' system, they should be even better this season, especially if Teddy winds up starting. The Jets could wind up drafting in the teens maybe even the 20s in the 2019 draft. Even if they're still in the top 10, the chances of their being able to trade up or having one of the top 1-2 QBs falling to them are slim and none. Mac isn't gonna wait until next season, either, because if he does, he won't have a job.
