Imagine thinking Mayfield is on the same planet as Rosen in terms of football IQ; and just being a technician at the position
There's a reason Rosen and Darnold will be gone before Mayfield, they are easily the top two prospects in this years draft. Mayfield wasn't even being talked about in the top ten picks before two months ago, that's not to say he's a bad prospect, it's more about how crazy the QB hype gets as it get closer to draft day. Whenever you hear people talk about liking a prospects "intangibles", it's more code for, "I like what I think he will be able to do", more than I like what he's done. Rosen and Darnold are easily more plug and play for the NFL, Mayfield's not that guy.
The cost of passing on Mahomes continues to rise. Adams + 2018 3rd pick QB <<<< Mid-round/FA safety + Mahomes + 3 2nd Round Picks
I saw the thread title and thought to myself "What dumbass is making another dumb thread now?" Was shocked it was Byz, bit of a waste of a thread tbh. Not hating, just surprised. And it's not $10 for $10. 6, & 3 have way different value. If we're using the money thing, I would say we gave up a $10 bill for a $20, but also gave 3 $5 bills. Ultimately the team paid more than what they started with, but that crisp 2018 $20 looked so good, they really wanted it. Plus a franchise qb possibility is worth it. Duh.
If you wanna get technical about it they gave up 6, two 2nd rounders, and Sheldon Richardson for 3 and Jermain Kearse...sounds like a steal.
Mahomes hasn't proved to be anything more than a QB picked higher than projected leading into the draft and at least a round sooner than predicted before his combine. Most interesting to me is that we talk about the mistake of not reaching for him at 6 a year ago but complain that Allen shouldn't be taken at 6 this year. Someone who has been top 3 for over a year because of his measurables. The same reasons people wanted Mahomes.
I like to think of it is we gave up Marcus Maye, Christian Hackenberg and Devin Smith ( those were our last 3 No. 2's) for a chance to not only get a great QB but to keep a great QB away from the Bills.
He's also proven that he is good enough to trade away a one time MVP candidate who's won 65% of his games...LOL The big difference between Mahomes and Allen is that the former does not lose accuracy when he is throwing hard or off platform. I agree with @Big Cat if Mahomes was in this draft, I'd draft him 1st overall.
Yeah, if people want to get upset, they should consider that we didn't have to give up anything and could've had Mahomes or Watson last year, both of whom are arguably better than anyone this year. To me that shows the value in "The bird in hand is worth two in the bush". Some have posted Macc should've waited until NEXT year to take a QB, but who is coming out then that would be better than the guys coming out now? And there's a better than good chance the Jets won't be drafting even as high as #6 next year, so good luck trading up then! If you think 2 current 2nd rounder and one from the next year is too high, you'll get nosebleed just thinking about what the cost will be next year to trade up. I wanted Mahomes or Watson last year, but it's spilt milk now. Now Macc finally got some balls and is going after a FQB. He might miss, but I won't complain a bit about this trade for the CHANCE to win.
That's why I continue to be shocked that Macc - knowing that he had Petty and Hack, and who he must have known weren't the answer - decided to pass on Mahomes. As good as Admas may ever become - let's say All Pro - he won't impact a game the way a FQB can.
Actually hes proven nothing. He played one meaningless game with absolutely nothing on the line. I get they traded a QB and handed him the job but we shall see if that works out, Reids history with QBs outside of 1 gimme is not close to being good. The difference between Mahomes and Allen is imaginary. Allen is the bigger, better prospect going into the draft. I know well and good it needs to be played out on the field. My amusement is that fans cry over passing on a 2nd round projection and cry over the thought of drafting the QB included with Rosen and Darnold as the top tier QBs for 2018. For all the talk about Mahomes, it centers around his arm. His arm is nowhere near what Allen has. If Mahomes were in this draft and you drafted him overall over Darnold and Rosen you would be laughed out of the league and fired a day later. Nothing in his career puts him 1 in any draft.
That Allen has a stronger arm. There is nothing outlandish in saying it. Its not a big deal but it seems to be OK to fall in love with Mahomes because of his arm and that he climbed up the draft off of the combine but not for Allen, even though Allen is rated higher for well over a year, is even some so called experts number 1 going into the draft. Odd
I respectfully disagree with the bold; I would say 5,000 yards and 40+ TDs says different. No one in this draft can match his combination of physical gifts and production. Nothing in Trubisky's career put him at #2 yet he was drafted there. Darnold has a more than 50% chance of being the #1 overall pick; you think that would be the case if he didn't go to USC. At the end of the day it's about what each value most. Mahomes has A LOT of traits I value, in no particular order: -Arm strength -Arm Talent -Accuracy -Athleticism -Moxy -Size -Escapability -Intelligence -Pedigree -Competitiveness -Poise -I could go on and on but I have to go pick up my daughter from school now.
I haven't seen them compared side by side, but everyone is pretty impressed with Mahomes's arm, expecially coupled with his accuracy. The latter point is where Allen is knocked. A gun for an arm isn't worth much if the sights are off
Count me in the should’ve drafted Mahomes last year camp. He’d be up in the first tier for me with Darnold & Rosen if he was in this draft. Probably behind Darnold & in front of Rosen only because of Rosen’s concussion history.
