I'm a little dumbfounded by the trade. There are many analysts who say while this draft has depth at QB... there isn't a clear cut STUD among ANY of them. I'm not sure ANY of these top QB's will be a stud franchise guy. Why trade the farm away for the chance at the #3 QB on your board? I like many of the the FA additions to the team in the past week, but there are 3 QUALITY picks we could have used this draft to improve areas of need for now and 2019. LG- Carpenter is in last year of contract and won't be re-signed. We could have drafted Nelson to replace him now and saved 5M on cap, for rollover etc. Also if we wouldn't have drafted Nelson at 6, we could have taken G/C Billy Price with our early 2nd rd pick. He and the new Center/Guard Long from Wash can be alternate plan for each other at C/LG if either gets hurt etc.. nice flex to have. DE- is weak. What if Chubb slides to 6, what a gift. I realize that's a GUESS, but it could happen as you see many teams are foaming for a QB and also RB-Barkley. Chubb could fall to 6. RB- Powell is in the last year of his contract and won't be resigned. We could have used the mid 2nd rd pick for a guy like Michel, Chubb, K. Johnson.. to have a 1-2 combo with Crowell for the next couple years. All of this and we have added a potential GOOD QB to our roster anyway... Bridgewater. I really like Teddy and have to believe he will be our starter sooner rather than later this season. If he isn't it's because of the knee.. not talent. If he does start and flourish.. now we have 2019 with an unknown QB who was drafted and likely Teddy bolts to FA because he won't want to relinquish the reigns to a guy who was is his backup. We could have another "hack" on our hands and we let Teddy walk out the door. Just saying. Now with spending the #3 pick on QB and losing both 2nd rd picks this season... we will not have a viable solution in place for 2019 at RB/LG that could have been addressed in this draft. Next year might have to be a RB with 1st rd pick and LG with 3rd rd pick. Too much tunnel vision. I would have rolled the dice with Teddy this year and improved the team at 3 positions in the draft with starters and if Teddy fails(2-14 etc), we have early pick for a QB in 2019.
I don't understand what is so hard to comprehend here.. This QB class one day might rival the class of '83. We had to take a shot. There really wasn't an option and I'd like to think our new CEO Chris Johnson green lighted this. Standing pat and drafting BPA-D again would have resulted in another mediocre season without any real hope of a future shot at a SB. The days of the 2000 Ravens will never come again as the rule changes prioritize offense at the expense of D. You still have to score one more point than your opponent which implies you have to have the ability to score when you need to regardless of the D you're playing against. We had our best seasons when we had above average Qb play and an offense to go with it. It past time we get back to the offensive side of the ball.
I dont have blind faith in the Jets like you do.You seem to applaud meciocrity and clap for everything that they do....We havent made the playoffs since 2010..we are going on 8 years now .You act like we are the Patriots ..I bet your a supporter of kids reciving trophys for participation.
I read this article yesterday and my confidence in Mac was restored again, at least until the Qb he selects busts. Say what you want about whichever QB he selects but you can’t say they are not prepared to make this selection.
Lost the game which would've led them to the playoffs. Anyway, take away Prescott and put in Bortles, you think the Cowboys would go anywhere? Because we're talking about that kind of a thing here.
I don't see anything concerning about what we are doing regarding the QB position... we are being aggressive going after the most important position on the team, something we've been begging for since the beginning of time, it seems. Bringing in Bridgewater is a great move... now we have 2 options for our FQB...2 young guys that can improve this team and lay the foundation for the future.
I think you picked a bad comparison because I don't think Prescott is all that, he looked good first year behind a did ol and rode Elliott for all he was worth, he isn't an awful qb by all means but I will be disappointed if Rosen or Mayfield don't turn out a lot better than him. But Barkley could well be a difference maker to any NFL team, I wouldn't be upset if we choose him and played teddy but for it to be worthwhile he has to be an RB with longevity, 10 seasons worth. Mayfield, Rosen or Barkley for me, I won't moan if it is one of them.
I agree with the thought process, and agree a very good player couldve fell to them at 6 (and they had the two 2nds to jump back into the bottom of the first).... but basically it comes down to whether or not he nails the pick. If he does, theyre hopefully selecting an OT in the first next year
imo this was another bad move by a franchise that has made more then it's share of bad moves throughout my 60 years. can someone tell me how many non first round qb are starting in the nfl right now.
Of course and future picks are no guarantee of success either. (without the bold and larger font)..that's the whole point, who cares what we gave up if we get the guy we want? If we don't we get a new FO and a new HC and maybe that's all for the best too.
i just have a hard time trading up for.... and unknown. we are at the mercy of what the 2 teams still ahead of us do unless we called the giants and they said oh yeah no dont worry we are going to draft the rb your guy will be there. you cant like 3 guys as your future franchise qb, the nfl doesnt work that way you like 1 guy and do what you need to get him. my concern is that we are enamored with the wrong guy or we will be 1 spot short of getting the guy we want. i am going to have a little faith here though that these yahoos know what they are doing. its a very odd trade to 3rd though this far before the draft.
One seemingly underappreciated benefit is having a cost controlled QB for 5 years. Over the first 4 years, the average salary should be about $23mil less than Cousins. That's potentially 2 top FAs at other positions.
