The Jets traded 4 draft picks for 1 draft pick. Let's be clear on that.

Since whoever we take at #3 may have still been there at #6, this trade can never be said to be "genius" from the NYJ perspective.

From Indy side if their preferred guy is still there at #6, that is genius since they get their guy plus 3 excellent picks.

The Jets swapped picks in the first round with the Colts, upgraded their position in the present 2018 NFL Draft in order to secure a franchise quarterback.

NOW here is the part I want YOU to read slowly to yourself. Mike Maccagnan didn't give away any of the Jets future first round picks. To put it simple Maccagnan only gave up two of the Jets 2nd rd picks along with Seattle's 2nd rd pick for renting Sheldon Richardson in the last year of his rookie contract.

Not to digress, but does anyone believe Mac re-signs Sheldon If he never traded him? I don't. Maccagnan didn't even bring Sheldon in for a visit this free agency, and he could have had him if he wanted to. So instead of letting Sheldon Richardson walk for nothing at the end of his rookie contract, Mac rented him for draft ammo to get a franchise quarterback. No, the Jets wouldn't have received any draft compensation for Sheldon Richardson with Mac being extremely active in 2018 free agency.

    To Sum Things Up
Two 2's and the last year of Sheldon's rookie contract to move up 3 spots in the 2018 Draft for a franchise quarterback. DILLY DILLY!

Highly unlikely. There is a lot of competition for the top quarterbacks in this 2018 NFL Draft.

There is literally no way for anyone to prove that the guy we take at 3 would have been available at 6. Not a single way. So by doing that you’re just doing it because you want to be miserable and complain.

I don't think anybody said this was a genius trade, it is simply putting yourself in position to guarantee you will get 1 of the 3 top picks on your board.

I was responding to your comment that Mac could look like a genius if it works out--I'm demonstrating that this could never happen since there can never be proof that he made a move that was necessary--while at the same time giving away 3 meaningful picks.

I don't want to complain--its just a fair analysis of the trade.

You’re trying to compare apples and oranges. Moving up to 3 guarantees you a top 3 guy. Staying at 6 means you’re hoping one falls. There’s a clear cut difference.

I think its probable that one of the four QBs would be available at 6, but that’s it. Trading up #3 guarantees the Jets will have their pick of at least 2 of the 4, and maybe even 3/4 depending on the what the Giants do.

Obviously the Jets think this is 2004 all over again with Eli, Rivers, and Ben.

My point is Macc's list of QBs might be different than other teams....who are the 3? I hear of 4 that are all possibilities to go first overall!

I get their thinking I just totally disagree...this year is loaded at QB depth so it makes sense that the Jets trade up in that scenario because they’re a dumb fucking franchise

since we have no clue who will bust and who won’t I’d rather have more picks to strengthen the team otherwise because it’s a50/50 shot at best picking at 1, 3, or 6 or later in the first round.....look around the league and at the history of drafts

There’s definitely 4 and maybe 6 first round QBs but we’re arrogant enough to decide we know that this one QB we draft at 3 will be the star of the group...3 extra second round picks be damned

I get why people are upset about trading 4 picks for one. The thing though if we get the right qb in ten years we'll never think about those picks. If we get this wrong we will always think about this pick. Only time will tell but history tells me we will be wrong but I'm holding out hope.

Even better, we will never think about those picks 2 hours after this years' draft concludes and 1 hour after next's but we will be thinking about which ever qb we take until he retires or is cut/traded.

In my mind the fact remains that if all 3 of our second rounders turn out to be great talents but we get our franchise QB it's a massive win for us. We have been waiting 50 years for our savior. There will be plenty of opportunities to replenish the other positions but we need to strike when the opportunity arises. Three second rounders over two years is not going to move us up in the rankings as much as a FQB.

A great QB can carry a team, 3 2nd rounders can't. Simple as that.

LA --I totally agree I have been waiting almost a lifetime for a FQB and i personally don't love Allen but IF they take him and he pans out so be it,,,my point being it does not matter who you or I like but that Mac takes the right guy ! I just don't trust him to make the correct pick I pray he proves me wrong otherwise its resume time

Macc showed a lot of balls with this move. Now all he has to do is prove the axiom about stopped clocks and be right THIS TIME! A lot of folks, myself included, have our doubts about Macc but if there are only 3 winning lottery balls and Macc is guaranteed one of them, the odds are pretty good that he won't miss.

The problem is there's a 4th ball in there that is a lemon and on the surface, it has all of the things that Macc loves...

And this isn't to say that I don't like the trade, because I do. If we are going to go down, we are going to go down swinging and that's more than we can say of any regime in the last what, almost two decades? I just can't help but worry about Macc falling in love with size and arm strength while ignoring not only the massive red flags, but ignoring another QB who is guaranteed to be there that is a much better prospect than Allen.
