Anyone that still uses the outdated draft value chart, which by the way was just one coaches system that was then taken over by every freaking news outlet possible, is just reaching. It all changes every year dependent upon the draft picks available, the team needs, changes to the pay scale, etc. When you look at the fact early draft picks are much more reasonable to sign now, it sends the value of certain picks much higher.
Unless of course Barkley is still available, that or a dwarf QB, that would dwarf all other concerns.
It would be awful! IMO Jackson is the only one of those 4 QBs who has any chance at becoming a starter.
If the Bills got the #3 pick we would have half the fan base bitching and complaining why we didn't trade up. Everyone has known the Bills wanted the 3rd pick Mac beat them to it and made an outstanding trade what a day.
IMHO you don't pay $10M of cap dollars for a 39 year old mentor. If the Johnson's wanted McCown that badly as a mentor then they could have made him the highest paid QB coach. I believe that this position is still open.
no it's not 12 points. we gave up around 3k points for 2200 in return. 800 points is essentially an extra late 1st round pick or 2 extra seconds. that's a lot extra to overpay. 12 would be meaningless which is essentially a 7th round pick
That chart is static. When the draft board is full of non QBs, you can kind of follow it. But when there's QB hungry teams and a good handful of prospects, that chart turns to garbage until the late first round.
no it's not, it's a starting point every Gm uses. obviously a desperate team will need to go over it and/or extra bidders (maybe buffalo called them and offered their 2 1st rounders) and we would have to beat it. it still doesn't change the value of the pick, especially since every player in the draft has the potential to turn out as a bust. so when you give up 3 or 4 picks for one, you lower your chances of getting good players and essentially put all your eggs in one basket. I don't mind the trade in itself, i just think it happened too early
Then the dumbass Jets will again look like dumbasses. Kind of what happens when you trade to pick 3 a month and a half before the draft.
That's the catch, Barkley is likely gone at #4 to the Browns. Browns were likely hopping to go Darnold then Barkley at #1 & #4 or vice versa, now we've got them all screwed up because we will "could" snatch either guy and they have to decide which is more important. I'd say it's Darnold. Now it leaves us chosing between a guy that wasn't as good of a prospect as Bridgewater and a generational talent in Barkley.
he's not just a mentor, he's a solid known option who could win the starting job, but if he doesn't can still be a solid backup and mentor as well. between him and teddy we are paying 16mil 10 mil is the lowest paid starting QB in the NFL not on their rookie contract. the next lowest paid is taylor at 15.25 mil
So before Jimmy Johnson came up with the system what did GMs use? Why are there numerous trades every year conflict with the chart?
Yeah, who do want in the new QB's head in the QB room, McCown, or Petty/Hack? That's worth 5 mil right there. They should cut those two tonight. I guess Hackenstein will be around
I said this earlier in the week, but don't be surprised if McCown is being paid to dress as one of 3 QBs on the roster, but in reality he's a QB coach-lite. That of course would only stand if he doesn't actually start games lol.
Who are we fucking kidding?? This is great. It's worth a shot and the pick is basically going to be a QB1 made for us which is a bonus. That said who cares about giving up 2nd round picks?... we'd fuck them up anyway. Check history over the past 25 years. Smh.
