I am a Darksider also but trading a few 2nd rounders to insure drafting a potential franchise QB is a no brainer.
Browns ain’t trading the number 1 pick. The worst case scenario is that they take a QB at 1 and so does the team at 2 whether it is the Giants or whoever is there. Now that the Jets are at 3 the Browns have to now consider it a certainty that a QB is being taken there when deciding whether to draft one at 1 or hoping one they want is there at 4, but that was always a possibility so I don’t see that changing their decision that much. If they take Barkley at 1 they still are guaranteed one of the top three QB’s at 4 — the same dynamic the Jets are in now. Absent of the Browns thinking Rosen, Darnold or Mayfield is significantly better than the rest and not worth missing, they should take Barkley and then which of the three is still there. And that doesn’t even take into account all the rumblings that they love Allen who should all but certainly be there at 4. I’m confident Jets will have their pick of the top two QB’s.
Nobody should have a different opinion? Better hope it's not Rosen, because that guy is destined to be a bust.
Me too Will. I'm hoping having another opinion besides Gailey's on pro day helps. If Bates is any kinda QB whisperer, then Mac should take his word seriously. Macc knows Qb is his blindspot. I'd like to think so anyway..
Why is it wrong to believe that the smart play was continuing to build up the team....draft a QB at 6 or later and evaluate the rookie/Bridgewater and then go from there? This move doesn't take balls it takes desperation....So good for us if it works out, but if not we're in a world of shit
It was absolutely possible the top 4 qb and barkley are gone by 6. 1 - Darnold 2 - Rosen 3 Bills trade up for Mayfield 4 Barkley 5 - Allen 6 - Sure Nelson is great but we need a qb. This was a great move for a franchise in dire need of the most important position in sports
I was more or less asking "you" the fan. Not asking what yall think Macc would do. Like say you're at 3, your 2 top QBs are gone, do you take Saquon/Chubb/Fitzpatrick or the next best QB
Agreed. People making it out like Mac traded 3 first rounders. As long as the Jets don't pick the next Ryan Leaf, this will go down as one of the smartest moves in Jets history.
Great post, @Hayden. It's so true. I don't think this is reflective of the Jets fan base though. More so people in general in 2018. They complain about everything. It's sad.
that scenario would be the worst case scenario, and even then we still walk away with an offensive lineman who I believe has HOF potential. that's not so bad. and there would still be Jackson, Rudoph, Falk, Lauletta to consider, as well as lot of other picks to work with.
I think you're entirely right, but unless O'Brien messed with Mac's eyeglasses prescription, it still defies logic.
