Who slipped through our fingers? The only guy is Kirk and we knew for a couple of weeks he was going to MINN. Nobody else comes to mind.
Most times it's better to not overpay and let players slip through our fingers. I much prefer Macs approach of signing young, inexpensive players with upside that can be disposed of relatively painlessly if things do not work out. That of course excluding Johnson who seems to fit Bowles system quite well.
No one else comes to mind? Marcus Peters Allen Robinson Andrew Norwell Weston Richburg Jimmy Graham Case Keenum Sam Bradford Lots of talented players at many positions of need went to teams with far less money to spend than the Jets. When they go to the playoffs and we watch from home, please remind me how we didn't miss out on any opportunities.
We don't have to spend 80 million this year. It is 89% over 4 years. Which means the total that we can have unspent over 4 years will be around 75 million (approximate guess not knowing salary cap next two years). Which means we are fine if we carry over 20 or 30 million this year. Which given our signing and approach we should have no problem meeting. What we do not want to ever do is what Idzik did in 2013 spending so little that the next 3 years we had to spend close to the cap forcing ourselves to buy regardless of value. We are not anywhere close to falling into that trap again.
If we carry forward $20 of $100 million we are spending $80 million. If that is the case, saving $500k at ILB is not a good thing if Demario Davis is a better player than the one we signed. This year was our chance to go big and get guys like Cousins, Norwell, and Robinson. Aside from Leonard Williams, who do we even need to save money for?
sherman at this point in his career is not as good as johnson. Johnson got less then norman and he is better as well
I'm fine with it. A vet QB who is a good mentor, a 25 year old QB with two solid seasons, a young RB that is decent, a good CB, a good ILB, a shiny new center. Cousins is super overrated and not worth what he's paid.
Who will be a FA next year? Who may be available that we could spend that money on? Is it worth spending money this year, especially at this point on guys that will command more than their worth towards the longevity of this team? Just because you could, doesn’t mean you should. It’s not logical. We really don’t NEED a lot of the guys you’ve mentioned. A lot of the needs on this team, we have addressed. That’s the important thing. Other areas just aren’t worth it in FA this year. Mac is doing a good job so far. IMO
I thought you meant the Packers at first, that would be disastrous! I really don't want Sheldon back, knowing this team's luck the day he gets signed, he will fail a drug test and we never see him again.
It’s a four year roll over. You do not have to spend that money in this offseason. From what I’ve read, we aren’t even required to spend 1/4 of that money this offseason. It rolls over. You don’t lose it. So no... WE DONT HAVE TO SPEND THAT MONEY!
You can't buy a team. I'm thankful that most of those players signed elsewhere. The only two I would have wanted would have been Norwell and Robinson. Marcus Peters - Extremely talented but a head case Allen Robinson - Why should he come here? Who's the QB? Andrew Norwell - The Panthers ran a man/power blocking scheme. He may not have been as effective in our zone blocking scheme. Plus why should he want to sign here? Weston Richburg - Would have been ok, but with his injury history risky Jimmy Graham - He's too old and not nearly as good as he was, but still, why should he want to come here when we have no QB, especially when he can play with Rodgers Case Keenum - Not good anyway, no way I wanted him Sam Bradford - He's more fragile than Chad was, and not as good. No way I'd want him.
