Are there even any pure shutdown corners left? Playing secondary almost seems like it's been outlawed from the league with how ridiculously tight they call it. The league wants unbridled offense. All the time
Trumaine over Butler.Trumaine fits the scheme better & is the better overall player. Butler is not a bad player by any means but is slightly overrated due to one play.
Give Me: -Mo Claiborne -Demario Davis -Ryan Jensen C -Jordan Matthews WR -Kony Ealy -ASJ -Dontari Poe DT -Draft Baker Mayfield at #6 And I'd be content.
Nothing relaxes me more then milk dud and Mcown at QB and a CB being the highest paid player on the team.
I think the thing I liked about Butler is that he's a bit quicker and younger but to be honest, Bowles likes bigger corners and Trumaine is a big dude who can body up the best WR's. He fits this scheme better than Butler.

Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports As free agency rolls around and we prepare to see the dollar bills flow, we want to do our best here at PFF to try and curb reckless spending. Buyer’s remorse is a phenomenon we all experience, but our discomfort over buying the wrong brand of toilet paper pales in comparison to owners and general managers eating millions of dollars to cut a guy one or two years down the road (although maybe not depending on how cheap you went). With that in mind, let’s take a look at the guys whose price tag we likely wouldn’t want to match in free agency. TRUMAINE JOHNSON Johnson has all the traits of an elite corner, and the fact that he was franchised twice already might suggest he is one, but nothing in our grading agrees with that evaluation. In fact, it can be argued that Johnson was the weak link in the Rams’ secondary at times last year. He gave up at least 79 yards in four separate games and his 759 yards allowed were fifth-most among all corners. He’s a solid starter, but is not worth near what he got paid the past two seasons.
So what did he get paid for the last two seasons? Looks like just under $14M in 2016 and $16,742,000 in 2017, both times being franchised. At an average of 15M per year, a three year signing sounds like a deal. Now to find out how long the deal is actually for.
Why do that? RB is the easiest position for a rookie to come in start day one and play well. Why sign Crowell if they plan to draft a RB who is a starting caliber RB? They'd be wasting him on the bench. Crowell is young and a workhorse, and has lots of tread left. He will be the starter. They have McGuire and Powell to be change of pace backs. I can see only two reasons for trading/releasing Powell. One, he's 30 and in the last year of his contract and the Jets could possibly get a 4th or 5th round draft pick for him. Two, McGuire and he are practically identical players, so they might want to get one with a different skill set. If the Jets plan on keeping only 3 RBs, they may want to draft a RB who is a 3rd down-type back and PR/KOR, or they may want to add more of a power back/short yardage specialist, perhaps someone like Bo Scarbrough. Otherwise, he still is good and there's no burning reason to get rid of him. He's very good on blitz pickups and has made quite a few big plays for the Jets. He's not losing his speed/quickness.
I was all for signing Cousins but what turned me off was fully guaranteed $ and only three year contract. I was expecting A 5 year contract. A three year contract means your back in QB hell after 3 years or pay top dollar once again.
“Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that not one, but two teams apparently offered Cousins more money to sign with them, but that he has apparently decided to go with the purple instead. According to Rapoport, both the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets offered more money that the Vikings did. There weren’t any specifications about the length of the deals or the amount of guarantees that either of those two teams offered, just that they offered Cousins more than the Vikings did” https://www.dailynorseman.com/platf...&utm_source=twitter&__twitter_impression=true I would imagine that the jets offered 30+ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And for 1 - 2 of those years you are definitely not competing for playoffs or the lombardi. 5 year deal I was all in.
