I read tweets like this and just think about how badly we are being played. That tweet reads like a direct quote from Cousins' agent just tryin' to get more money out of the Vikings SMH
That's good, don't worry, because Maccagnan will be the bitch here. When your job is on the line, you have to be submissive.
No matter what Cousins' agent says coming off as needy isn't going to win him over. He'll use us for leverage and sign with a GM he actually respects. We have to convince him he can win here, a submissive GM will turn him off.
No problem. Thanks for the clarification. Lewis may be an upgrade over Powell, and I can understand your wanting to make that move, but there are much better RBs in the draft than Lewis. Besides, the Jets don't really need another $4 million in cap space. Powell has been a great Jet and is one of my favorite Jets. That's why I don't want him to be released. He is still one of the few playmakers we have and still has his speed/quickness and ability. I want him to retire a Jet. You are wrong about Cockrell. According to the following article, he was traded because the Steelers were transitioning to a man coverage style, and Cockrell is better suited to a zone type defense. He had 3 interceptions with the Giants this past season. I didn't realize that he was better suited to a zone-type coverage scheme, however, so he wouldn't be a good fit here, but the man can play. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...ditional-draft-pick-2018/stories/201709020115 I hadn't hear the rumors about Norwell, but there are other good OGs who could be available. I knew that Hubbard is/was a RT for the Steelers, but Spotrac has him listed as an OG. I wasn't sure if that was a mistake, or if he might be able to play OG as well. Either way, at a minimum, he'd be better than Qvale, and probably better than Shell as well. I'm tired of Hack as well, and I can certainly understand our desire to get rid of him, but just don't think it will happen. He's cheap, the Jets are still going to try to get something out of him, and another vet like Henne would bring nothing to the team and would cost a lot more. CBs are not more valuable than pass rushers. Even the best DBs can only cover receivers for 3-4 seconds. Only great pass rushers can disrupt and shorten the time opposing QBs have to find an open man. I'm not opposed to the Jets signing a FA NT, DE and hope they'll sign a CB or two. It's just that with all the 1st round picks they've had, Bowles/Rodgers still haven't been able to make anything out of our D and have played players out of position. Anyway, again welcome. Look forward to further discussions.
If Mac has any intention of making a run at Cousins. He has to lock down a couple of FAs immediately. Robinson/Watkins , Jensen/Richburg(hopefully Jensen) to show Cousins he is serious about improving the Offense. That could go a long way in convincing him. But with the roster as it stands, it will be a tough sell.
He has to have a QB before he worries about anything else. He could sign all those people you mention and then watch Cousins go elsewhere anyway.
If he starts getting too pricey, I hope they'd consider Trey Burton instead. He's been behind Ertz and Celek for years and looks like a great receiver and a breakout candidate as a starter.
And that would be bad? Having a center and #1 reciever would still be a benefit to whoever the starting QB is. If a rookie, the center is invaluable, helping set protection for the young kid.
But how are the jets being played when everyone knows Cousins is going to get big money? This isn't something we haven't known. Jets may be getting played by their own selves for not being able to draft/develop their own QB, not because they have to succumb to signing one through free agency.
