Sorry, I wasn't more clear.. with limited spacing in posting.. I agree with re-signing the other current jet FA's, as they are all on my depth chart.. I figured they were a "given"... the only guys who seems questionable are Davis/Jenkins/Claiborne. I'd go with Cooper over Stinson in your dilemma.

I think Lewis is an upgrade over Powell.. slight, but upgrade. I like Powell, think we have not used him enough, but I'm okay rolling the dice on Lewis for 3 years. If we cut Powell, we save 4M on the cap this season. I think Lewis won't get anymore than 6M, so he only costs 2M this season. Also, as a clarification.. the idea of improving the team at 5+ positions and doing 3-4 year contracts, while going with a cheaper solution at QB than Cousins.. with Bridgewater an injury unknown.. I do his contract at 2 years. Team is markedly improved and if Teddy isn't.. we draft early in 2019,20 and then get a franchise QB.

I only really know of Cockrell in the CB's you mentioned and Pittsburgh couldn't wait to let him go.. I'm not aware of Gia falling in love with him. He seems to be run out the door quickly. Johnson is a top notch CB who MAY be on a slight decline.. but he is head and shoulders better than anything we currently have.

Rumors have Norwell already agreeing to a 13M per deal with Giants. Hubbard is/was a RT for Steelers. As for Hack.. sigh.. I'm just tired of him and am ready to cut ties. Sign a vet for minimum, i.e Henne etc. and draft a late rd. guy and see if you catch lightning. If all QB's fail in 2018.. we draft early for a frachise QB in 19, while the team is markedly improved.

Lastly.. what was once the fortress of our D... I now this season have big concerns about out our DL. CB/S and LB who are able to cover seem to be more valuable than pass rushers. Hope our DL can just stuff the run.

I realize the draft is loaded with RBs but I really like the idea of signing Lewis. When we play the Pats I always expect him to tear us up and he delivers. One of his TDs on us last year I remember him coming out of the backfield for a pass and thinking "well, that's a TD" because we couldn't stop him. Him and Powell would be a much better one two punch than Forte and Powell. The point of FA is to fill holes so you can use the draft for other positions that you can't fill in FA. Lewis is uncover able and IMO was under utilized in NE.

I agree with some of this but cutting Anderson and signing Teddy for starting QB money. Yes Robby has made some bad off the field decisions recently but I think he gets one more shot. Try to get the kid some kind of mentor or something, or give him curfews and a strict set of rules he must absolutely abide by if he wants to stick around with the franchise. On the field the sky is the limit for him as he's shown he can make plays with whatever guy is throwing him the ball. I'd love to see the jets help him help his self as far as troubling matters go.

& I hateee the QB plan here. Tedy hasn't played in 2 years I'm not willing to dump all the eggs in his basket. He honestly hasn't shown franchise QB potential yet either before the injury, I'd give him a one year prove it deal and see what happens... but I'm drafting my QB in the 1st round along with signing him for a 1 year deal maybe with some incentives and options.

by the looks of this offseason we'd still have some $$$ left over... lets go all in. Get honey badger on the phone and plead our case, his LSU buddy Jamal Adams is already making his pitch. He knows Bowles system well and fits right in to that young alpha culture we seem to be building with this team. No need to overpay old vets when you have good young talent with the SAME goal and their eyes on the prize. These kids are hungry to get better and it shows. Im good off Trumaine.

Powell is a keeper. Why cut him? Him Dion Lewis and a rookie RB later on in the middle of the draft.

This would be such a Jets signing:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE Benson Mayowa will visit the Jets on Monday.
He will talk with the Redskins on Tuesday and also has visits lined up with the Seahawks and Colts. Mayowa recorded six sacks in 2016, but he has never had more than one in any other season. Mar 12 - 9:28 AM

Meh, as long as it doesn't preclude them from drafting an edge rusher pretty early

It's going to come down to the Vikings and the Jets. The Vikings have financial limits though, the jets do not. We have easily enough cap flexibility to fully guarantee a contract and then some. The Vikings have a few players that are going to command big money next year. It seems like the Vikings will only go up to a certain year/guarantee number, while the jets are probably going to exceed that amount with ease. That's the unfortunate benefit to not having many star players on the team.

Jets are going to have to pursue Cousins heavily and are going to have to be creative in terms of selling how being the FQB for the team is better than being it for the Vikings.

I would hope at some point we say "forget it" and just plan to draft at 6.

Signing a pass rusher for depth is a Jets move?

Edit - wrong assumption - sorry macbk

Jets have the most cap space in the league and are going to try to outspend any competing team. Vikings will bank on the fact that they almost went to the SB last year, while the Jets are going to bank on money, cap flexibility to sign others, draft picks, Jeremy Bates, and being the best QB to dawn a Jets uniform since Favre and Namath

I'm actually not anti-Cousins. I'd welcome here with ease. I just don't want the Jets to invest all this time on trying to land him, all the while missing out on other FA's because money is being allotted for Kirk.

Sorry, I thought you may have been, which would have been ok either ways. I happen to think that where Cousins lands will dictate a lot for FA. He may put a stop to the market and once he signs then a bunch of other moves will follow. Will think it may be like a domino effect.

Does having 9 sacks for 3 teams over 5 years make him a pass rusher?

This is just another Aaron Maybin, David Bass, etc, which I mean is okay, but that's something the Jets have done since losing Abraham. They just keep picking up career reserves who have 1-2 good games for us and then they always resort to being back-up at best players and we never solve the outside pass rushing issue.

I still can’t manage to get myself worked up over a depth signing. Also if you think this is what they are doing to solve the pass rush problem... wake up.

Hopefully it's just depth (although I think they do have decent depth; what they need is an impact player). Signing this guy to a bigger deal and making him a starter

I hope they do more, but they've fallen short on getting a pass-rusher for what, like over a decade? So I'm not confident they wouldn't sign this guy and be satisfied with the rest of them.

But yes agree there's no reason to get worked up over this signing unless it's a bigger chunk of money than seems warranted and they then whiff on the position in the draft

We will see. Can't believe they're going to do anything else until they actually do it because year after year time after time all we do is add JAG back-ups and mid-round picks.

In reality, draft needs in top 3 rounds (if Kirk isn't signed) is clearly QB, RB & pass rusher.
