I think once the cousins signing is figured out teams will start inquiring about trading up. As you mentioned I'm all for the jets doing whatever it takes for the #3.
yeah #3 was my original idea, but then if we do it too early that gives Buffalo a chance to 1 up that with a trade to the giants. then we're forced to "settle" after trading up, which is horrible. On the other hand waiting until draft day may be wayyy too late and is extremely risky. its a real dilemma. starting to feel like the SAFEST bet would be trading up to #1 or 2 to assure we get whoever we really want. Of course this is if all fails with Kirk Cousins. Cousins had said he wouldnt sign with a team RIGHT AWAY. Which also scares me because of everything above. edit -- after seeing what the dolphins got in return for Landry (4th and 7th... LMFAO) I don't see them as big threats to jump in front of us in the draft.. and if they do I don't see it being any better than to the 4th pick after another trade with Cleveland.. maybe Suh and 11th pick? Bills have strong interest in Sam Bradford supposedly too, maybe that will ease the need to make a huge splash to trade all the way up even though I don't think it should.
How do the Bills have a better chance to move up from 21 & 22 then the Jets from 6? When was the last time a team went from top 5 into 20s?
I imagine there will be a timetable for the offer. If the teams in front of us are receiving offers, they will probably call the Jets (if they haven't already heard from them) and see if the Jets can beat the offer on the table.
Everything I'm seeing right now is Vikings. It would be hilarious if he signs with the Jets and exposes all of the fake news. Doubt the latter and I'm OK with this. Let's get our QB in the draft!
I tend to agree with this. Why would the giants or Colts for that matter want to go all the way down to the 20's when they can just drop down to 6 and still get a premium player. Yes it's 2 picks but I'd prefer picking in the top 6 myself while adding other picks.
I meant a better chance than the dolphins, not us. I think we can move up easily it's just about what spot we move up to and when we do it.
Giants and/or Colts can go down to say Jets spot and likely still make a trade with Bills if they wanted. It would make no sense for them to go straight to Bills without stopping somewhere first.
If I'm Maccagnan, I already have a call out to the teams in front of us: "If you receive a trade up offer, call us and let's make a deal..." If the trade up offer is from Philly (or a team with a QB) I may sit back. If the trade up offer is from a team who needs a QB, I'm immediately trying to verify the "offer" is real and that I'm not getting messed with. Once verified, I beat the offer -- assuming I have a player targeted.
Yeah. It depends on the Giants/Colts' draft boards. They may feel confident they can get their top player at 6. I sincerely doubt they will be able to get their top player at 20+. It sounds like they are going in on Norwell, so I'm not sure they will be going OL with this pick - they've lost 2 DBs in the offseason, they may target Fitzpatrick and they will be able to get him at 6, I believe. I'm also assuming Barkley is off the board @ 6.
Honestly Mac should be fired if anyone trades ahead of the Jets for a top 5 pick. It should only come down to the Jets and Broncos for 2,3,4 and I’m not convinced the Broncos want to move up for a Qb or if they will target a QB at all.
I agree. I'm just speculating because I'm obviously not sure how these trade ups work...but whatever measures the GM needs to take to protect being jumped by a QB needy team, the GM needs to execute.
Telling you that you don't know football isn't a personal attack....it is the truth...most of your posts are attacks on other's opinions...grow up!!
I don't think that Brees would leave NO. Even if he would, I'd only want him if we knew for certain that we would get Mayfield in the draft, however.
Exactly. If I'm a team willing to trade down there is no chance I do anything until Cousins makes his decision. Once he's off the table the #3 pick becomes much more valuable.
If I'm a team in front of Maccagnan why would I identify that team and compromise the value of my pick in the process? NYJ: "If you receive a trade up offer, call us and let's make a deal..." Team in front of Jets: "....we just got an offer...and here's what it is: ________" NYJ: "And who is that team?" Team in front of Jets: "So you want me to tell you? . Ok, then tell me this: does mrs. maccagnan like it in the ass?" ...*click* .
I really hope whatever team he goes to, he decides on it quickly. It sure sounds like he won’t but I would much rather he choose Minnesota right off the bat so we can move on with our lives instead of dragging it out for three or four days well into the first or second day of the new year. We have too much money to spend to sit around with our thumbs up our asses.
