my lights are flickering...im gonna kill Jay.......stupid question but why would lights flicker? im thinking either you have power or you dont...i know stupid question but what exactly is happening in a flicker situation
What a crush job.close to 12” here. Too much for the blower had to shovel assist a bit . Next round should be easier for it. That will be in 1.5 hours. Looks like it’s wrapping up around 10 so, one more time and what ever falls afterwards is god snow. Drive home was brutal, not because of the roads but the people. Psa, if you don’t have the vehicle and skill set to drive in the snow faster than the car idles, just stay off the road please.
I'm in the local volunteer FD and we've been going on calls all day for wires down due to trees falling. 1 fire from live down wires that spread from a shed to a house that we couldn't go near because we had to wait for PSEG to shut down the grid. This storm has been no joke.
My engineering training stops at the fence of the power plant. At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I am going to go with load fluctuations, power line connections, or switchovers at a substation. It's either that - or aliens with EM pulse beams preparing for an invasion.
People will tell you lightning can cause it but in practice the surge is barely noticeable. The actual cause is usually when a breaker trips somewhere on the grid and the power is rerouted as the breakers are closed and tripped again and closed in fast sequence. The trips are usually result of trees and branches cutting off phases to the circuits or causing shorts
Lights have been flickering all night,,,,,,,,60 trees down ps lites flickered while I was just typing this,,,,,but I stray 6000 people in my neck of the woods without power -------at least 4 schools no power,,,,,,just got the call no school tomorrow,,,,,,
LOL! It's not the kind of thing that's easy to hide! I am a Jets fan, after all! Stupid kind of seeks its own level.
Losing power is the toughest thing about these storms. That, and trying to sit in my living room while my neighbor is outside, maybe 8 feet from my window, with his snow blower on his driveway.
