Sign the best possible QB talent they feel that they can be successful with in their offensive scheme and figure out a way to draft Barkley. Whammo, two positions solved for the next 5-6 seasons.
If Minnesota signs Cousins, no one will be challenging for the starting job, and unless they only sign him to a 2 or 3-year deal, there would be no point in keeping Bridgewater, so your comment regarding Bridgewater makes no sense imo. If they sign Cousins, they'll either either also sign a cheap vet, draft one, or let the QB they have on their roster now be the backup.
I would bet that we’ll end up overpaying for either Butler or Johnson & either Jensen or Richburg. This FA shaping up to be a big dud, even more reason to make Cousins an offer he can’t refuse.
Hack doesn't cost much money, but having him on the roster instead of a QB like Bridgewater who might turn out to be good is an opportunity cost, i.e. wasted roster spot.
The point was "If" they thought Teddy was any good they wouldn't be looking at Cousins. That the aren't even considering signing Teddy and xxx (someone other than Cousins...say Keenam) tells you they don't think he can start any longer.
nobody carries 3 solid QBs you usually have your starter (which you are lucky if they are even good) a decent back-up and a clipboard holder. doens't make sense to pay 3 Qbs. your 3rd QB should be vet minimum. hack can stay on his rookie deal unless we draft someone in like the 7th round to take his place
That's not necessarily true. It could say that they think that Cousins is better, perhaps even a lot better, and gives them a better chance of getting to and winning a SB. IMO it may or may not say anything regarding whether Teddy is still starting material. It may just say that they think is Cousins is better for them, and "safer" in that he didn't have that major injury. I don't think we can draw any definitive conclusions from that.
Except none of this says they don't want Keenam or ultimately won't bring him back. The only thing it says for sure is that they don't want him for what his accepting a tag would cost. There was no chance of him being offered the tag given his short term success and the options available.
How depressing it will be if McCown is starting again. For those Fitz haters this is Fitz 2.0. 100 million dollars in salary cap waiting to spend and you can't even get the guy you want.
. Drafting a QB at 6 and signing McCown to mentor/bridge is not Fitz 2.0. Not even close, no one will care about McCown if we draft a QB in the first.
It is the Fitz situation if they don’t draft a QB in the 1st. Would anyone be really surprised if Mac can’t pass up either Chubb or Fitzpatrick stating BPA at 6 and drafts a 2nd tier prospect in the 2nd? I certainly wouldn’t be surprised at all.
Potential franchise QB trumps everything. Sticking strictly to BPA without factoring the importance of the QB position leads to drafting a safety over a Mahomes/Watson. We cannot make that mistake again and if we do then Mac needs to get his walking papers and we need to find a GM that can prioritize finding the most important position in all of sports.
I agree a potential franchise QB trumps everything. There won't be one available if the only QB we can choose is Josh Allen.
Jackson >>>>> Allen Small line of thinking will get Mac fired if they plan on only interviewing 4 QBs. This is however the outcome I believe will happen. EDIT - He should be interviewing AT LEAST 6 or 7 of these guys.
I know you think you know everything but I’ll just tell you straight up, you don’t. While your amateur opinion is that Allen is not a franchise QB prospect there are many professionals that disagree with your opinion and see potential greatness in Allen. I personally am not super high on Allen but would flip shit and want Mac gone if he passes on all the QB prospects at 6 for another 1st rd defensive player.
I'd rather take a shot on Jackson in the 2nd than Allen in the first, but I'd also rather take a shot on neither and just sign Cousins. I mean I feel like the point of a message board is to post your opinion. I'm sorry that mine isn't in line with yours? I won't flip a shit no matter what on draft day because I don't see the point in rooting against your own team. Whatever happens I'll hope for the best. If it's Josh Allen, it's hard to feel like it's going to work out considering a.) he's not that good now and b.) we don't make QBs better.
Not necessarily true. If McCown is starting week 1 and a name like Rosen is learning on the sidelines I don't find it depressing at all. I'd rather wait a few weeks and let the rookie prepare properly for his debut, not throw him to the wolves too soon. After the successes last year from some of the younger talent i can begrudgingly take one more year before truly competing. With the proper draft class and a few key free agents this team could/should be 7-9 to 9-7 and ready to roll in 2019.
To me, Allen is not worth trading up for or the 6th pick. While QB is the biggest need for the Jets, I don't want Mac to take a QB for the sake of taking a QB and reaching for one.
