nothing is all but certain. as it stands now everything is just a possibility. Also i'd remove brees, taylor and foles form your list, none of them are going anywhere. with that said IF minn signs cousins I'd like to take a run at bridgewater on a cheap 2 year deal. If he returns to form before the injury he's a solid QB who's young still and can hold the fort for a rookie. my 2nd choice would bring back Mccown for 1 more year. he's a great mentor and played better then anyone expected. stay away from bradford he'll never last 16 games. Mccaron isn't any better then drafting a QB really, and keenum is very limited in his skill set not a long term solution but too expensive for a stop gap
FYI: I made the list based on potential, in no way endorsing any of them. These are all names who guys here have said they wanted, so I listed them. As I said originally I really don't want to sign a FA unless it's McCown as a back up to the drafted guy.
I like Teddy Bridgewater, but his health concerns me. If he's healthy, I'd rather have him than McCown, because I think he'd play better, but I think Bowles would just go with Teddy and not even give the rookie a real chance to win the starting job. Since McCown knows the offense and his teammates and Bowles like him, he's probably the best option. If he sucks as badly as a number of posters here claim he will, perhaps that would motivate Bowles to bench him and play the rookie. Hence, I voted for McCown and draft a QB in the 1st round.
I would be ok with a teddy bridgewater and maybe move back up for Lamar or take falk in the 2nd if it doesn’t work out getting a qb at 6
I know, just using the word "backup" incorrectly. I expect McCown to start and then hopefully the rookie takes over.
There should only be two options for QB this offseason. 1. By far the best option is signing Cousins and having all picks to build around him. 2. Resign McCown and draft BAQB at 6.
I would bring back McCown and trade a 6th round pick to Denver for Trevor Siemian to go along with the rookie we draft in April. McCown is the perfect veteran to have in the room for a young QB, and the team loves him. Siemian is a perfect fit because he won’t cost anything against the cap and he can come in and compete with Hackenberg and Petty to be the primary backup when McCown gets hurt again alllowing whatever rookie we draft to spend an entire year on the bench if need be. McCown is going to get hurt, and if the rookie we draft isn’t ready it would be nice to have at least a young capable backup like Siemian there in case the rookie isn’t ready as opposed Hackenberg and Petty.
McGown plus trade up for Rosen or Mayfield If you stick at 6 yer asking for troubles....get to the 3 spot...secure your QB
Signing a McCown/Bridgewater/Keemun would be a safe option for 2018-19. No only is it common sense to get a vet, but the counter factual would go against Mac's super risk-averse MO. It would also be painful to watch (unless something dramatic changed with Petty or Hack). Getting one or two hold-the-fort guys would give the Jets some freedom at 6 (if there’s no Darnold/Rosen/Barclay/Fitzpatrick available) to trade back. Maybe they could move into the 9-15 range to grab Jackson and more picks? Or, if you like, maybe a Mike White with the Seahawks mid-late second or the early third?
If we lose out on Cousins our answer is to get Nick Foles next year when the Eagles are convinced their starter is healthy. Ryan Mallet, Teddy Bridgewater, or Trevor Sieman are all decent hold the fort guys until then. No one besides Cousins is worth a big contract now.
I don't think Keenum will be that cheap. He'll get more than Fitz or McCown did for sure, and that was enough money to keep them on the field. Actually I think maybe the Jags will look at Keenum if he becomes a FA - they might be able to afford him and he'd be a good safety valve if Bortles doesn't work out.
If we don't get Cousins then I would re-sign McCown and draft a QB. The added value that a guy like Keenum gives over McCown is not worth the extra $15-20 million/year.
That's why I said if we can sign Keenum for cheap. Maybe it isn't so likely but it can happen if he loses out in the game of musical chairs. But if he's in demand, then might as well go with McCown unless the Eagles are willing to trade Foles for a 3rd rounder, which is again unlikely. I just hope we can get Darnold, Rosen, or Mayfield in the draft if Cousins goes to Minny.
You also see dead people? Who says hes signing with Minny, says its pretty certain at this point? More than a few have him coming to the Jets, over Minny. More of the we suck, every other situation is so much more desirable. Why on earth would one legged Bradford be an option?
Yep. There's no reason to bring in yet another retread and there isn't another franchise QB available other than Kirk. I know some love Bridgewather for reasons I can't fathom, but he isn't a franchise QB. He never evolved to that in Minnesota and hasn't taken a meaningful snap in a game in almost 3 years come this September. He'd be better off going somewhere like Buffalo, competing against Taylor and if he were to lose to Taylor, coming in and seeing what he could do come October or November, whenever Taylor's next injury comes.
