If DeMarcus Lawrence and Ziggy Ansuh get tagged it may be very difficult to spent $100 million without signing Sheldon.
I’m cool with not blowing our wad this offseason and see how this season plays out. I’m not a Bowles hater like most on here but I do think he will be fired along with Mac... Keeping that loot could be enticing for an established coach and GM to want to come here. Having said that I’m hoping for us to have a draft like the saints last year and Bowles turn into Joe Gibbs....
sign kirk cousins, & 2 of the top 5 free agent o-lineman. sign Trumaine Johnson if all the top WR's get tagged or sign back, re-sign Kearse on a 2-3 year deal. Give me Aldon Smith at a bargain deal if he's allowed to play next year.. draft Saquon Barkley at 6. draft an interior o-lineman in the 2nd round and a DE in the 2nd as well.
Re-signings 1. ILB Demario Davis 2. DL Kony Ealy 3. DL Mike Pennel 4. DE/OLB David Bass 5. K Chandler Catanzaro Releases 1. DL Muhammad Wilkerson 2. RB Matt Forte 3. LG James Carpenter 4. CB Buster Skrine Free Agency Additions 1. QB Kirk Cousins 2. TE Trey Burton 3. WR Ryan Grant 4. OLB Trent Murphy 5. CB Kyle Fuller 6. CB Prince Amukamara Mock Draft 1. LG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame 2a. C Frank Ragnow, Arkansas 2b. RB Ronald Jones II, USC 3. QB Kyle Lauletta, Richmond 4. DE/OLB Kemoko Turay, Rutgers 5. CB Jamarcus King, South Carolina 6. OL Cole Madison, Washington State 7. CB Michael Joseph, Dubuque
I also wouldn't have a problem keeping Carpenter, not drafting Nelson, and drafting a OLB or CB at 6 (Jackson or Chubb), but I think Nelson is going to be one of the best OLineman in the league for the next decade and just can't seen Carpenter sticking in Dennison/Bates' zone scheme.
sounds good but we don't have $100 mil in cap space. we have 70 mil in cap space which goes to 80 mil if we cut mo wilk.
I wanted to say Kyle Fuller badly.. I remember him being good when Peanut was in Chicago.. but I haven't watched too much of him over the last 2-3 seasons. Wasn't sure how the kid was holding up lately
The Jets CAN get to near $100 mil but we'd have to make various cuts. Mo is one, but that gets us closer to the 80-90 Mil range. So it's possible but certain things need to happen, which they could.
1) Draft Mayfield at 6. I don't think the Jets will need to move up to get him, although that could change as we get closer to draft day. 2) Use 2 round 2 picks to move up into first round to select either RBs Chubb or Michel. Having one of these RBs will take a lot of pressure off the rookie QB. 3) Try to find a pass catching TE (I'm not that crazy about ASJ) in round 3 because Mayfield likes to throw to his TE a lot. 4) Draft OT, OG, CB in later rounds and hope to get lucky. 5) Puposely left off PR DE, although it's a need. Strongly believe any DE that gets past round 1 is not going to be a pass rushing threat. Oh, wait a minute! Since this is a dream scenario, yes, let's draft one in the 6th. 6) Awake from dream and buy Cousins #8 Jets jersey.
Sorry, I meant to respond to another poster who left the RB out, not you. I clicked on the wrong post.
We don't need to spend the $85-95 million that we'll have in cap room all in one year. Just need to spend 89% of cap room between 2017-2020.
Resign Davis, ASJ, Claiborne (last 2 only for a fair market value) Sign Kirk Trade for/Sign Mathieu Trade back with BUF for #21,22, #53 and 2019 first round 21-Billy Price 22-Harold Landry 37-Guice/Michel/Jones (in that order if all are there) 49-Mark Andrews (if ASJ left), if not CB/WR 53-WR (Moore, Washington, Sutton, etc) OR CB (Alexander, Davis, Oliver) 72- Lauletta
Resign 1. Demario Davis 2. Kony Ealy 3. Chandler Catanzaro Release 1. James Carpenter 2. Buster Skrine Sign 1. Kirk Cousins 2. Tyrann Mathieu (if he's released) 3. Ju'Wuan James or Cameron Erving 4. Allen Robinson Draft 1. Saquon Barkley (RB) 2a. Frank Ragnow (C) 2b. Billy Price (G, just tore his pectoral so he will fall a bit) 3. Mark Andrews (TE)
My ideal off-season for the Jets would be for an asteroid to hit The New Dump while no maintenance crew is in it, and not only level the place, but leave a huge gaping crater the size of Secaucus. What's that? Oh, right, sorry, Woody. You don't have asteroid insurance and neither do the POS Maras. A shame. I lied (rubs hands together like a cartoon villain because vengeance is mine)! Ask me if that felt great. Go ahead, ask me. Correct. That felt great. No, I won't de-rail the the thread; but since the thread is basically about dreams, I thought it was OK to say if you don't have dreams, you got nuthin'.
So how's our ideal off-season going? I guess I'll take a class action law suit if an asteroid isn't coming anytime soon. : )
