Does it hurt less when you get killed with a handgun?

Lol virtual reality warzone. You must be referring to war games like Rick and Morty and job simulator.. maybe fallout 4, where trees float in the sky and look like a Nintendo 64 game.

Virtual reality does not have the type of power you think it does.

You forgot about the 25 cent gasoline tax to pay for everything, a regressive tax that hits the poor hardest. You also forgot
the tax plan and the budget, both hugely inflationary, which will wipe out the value of the debts of the wealthy while destroying
the value of the minimum wage. What is the title of this thread again?

It's not backwards. There are way more crimes committed with handguns than with rifles, such as the AR-15. A handgun can be easily concealed, you can't really conceal a 30"+ AR. The same law exists in most states, not just Florida.

You are right, I forgot about the gas scam. Any savings Joe 6 pack will get from the tax scam will go directly to the gas companies now. In the end the average person will have less money in their pockets as a result. Brilliant.

A relative told the Florida Sun Sentinel that Cruz had been diagnosed with autism.

This guy passed because he was 18 and was buying a semi-automatic rifle which, in Florida, requires nothing other than his filling out an application. If he was buying a small handgun he would have had to be 21 and would have to wait three days for an investigation, however brief. Does this not seem to be the opposite of what should be?

Why is the weapon with more firepower and no need for close combat simpler to attain? Why should any kid of 18 simply be able to put down some basic information, check a couple of boxes claiming he's neither a felon nor a nutjob and be able to walk around with such a lethal weapon? Perhaps Florida should consider a method, other than self declaration, to find out if an applicant is a danger to himself and the community before handing over any firearm, not just the more benign.

When that starts happening with one tenth the frequency of mass shootings you bet your ass pressure cookers will disappear from the market.

Every gun purchase from a federally licensed firearm dealer goes through a federal background check. Every gun shop in america must have this license. The application you're referring to was sent to the feds who ran there background check on him.

Considering the overwhelming majority of gun violence in this country is committed with handguns it makes a lot of sense that there is more scrutiny over who is purchasing a handgun than a rifle. Rifles account for a very small fraction of gun violence in this country, in fact you're statistically more likely to be killed by being stabbed than by being shot by a rifle of ANY type - not just the big scary AR-15.

The difference in firepower between the .223 shell the AR15 typically fires and a .45 or even 9mm that a common handgun would fire is pretty negligent in this situation unless the target is wearing body armor which they never would be.

It's very clear to me that we need to focus resources and energy on hardening the target somehow. Give teachers some financial motivation to concealed carry and pass yearly psych & competency evaluations. Hire retired law enforcement or military to stand guard. Anything more than what we have. And make sure everyone knows it.

I guarantee you most people willing to do these shootings don't even attempt it if they're expecting resistence.

Sheriff’s office says: ‘No known ties’ between Parkland shooting suspect and supremacists

Jordan said Thursday that his office has arrested militia leader Jordan Jereb at least four times since January 2014 and has been monitoring the group’s membership.
He says his office has "very solid" information on the group and "there’s no known ties that we have that we can connect" 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz with the group.

So, more fake news that those who want to believe will believe :)

lol well I mean the chances of a school shooting at a particular place are extremely rare anyway. I also don't see career educators getting into a shootout and succeeding. they dont seem like the type

this shooting wasn't even the first one in which a damned trained and armed police officer on site already was unable to do anything, But Mrs.Puff is gonna pull out a .45 from her girdle and save all her students from the deranged dude with a semi-auto rifle? I don't believe in fairy tales

This kid wasn't old enough to buy a sixpack but he could buy an AR-15.

Yeah, this is definitely a mental health issue. Americans are fucking insane.

to be honest, why does this matter? To me, this is nothing more then a deflection of the true issue at hand. This kid was able to purchase an AR-15 and light up a school.

Does anyone have any remorse in terms of the ones that were lost?

"don't seem like the type" is a silly statement. There are all types of people in every profession including teaching. I personally know teachers with concealed carry permits.

This is the first I've heard of this armed officer. Do we know details of what happened with him in this situation? I heard this school had thousands of students so I imagine the campus is quite large. Did the shooter know where he was and purposely go somewhere else? If they don't know who is concealed carrying they don't have the ability to plan that way.

It's hardly a fairy tale to think an armed person could take out a bad guy with a gun. It happens all the time. The fact that it's a semi-automatic rifle vs a semi-automatic handgun is mostly irrelevant in close quarters. The rifle has a big advantage at a distance but these situations aren't typically more than the distance of the size of a classroom which a handgun is fine for.
