Jackson is one of the guys I would include in the 6-7. Beyond that, it's a matter of who the Jets brain trust likes. I happen to like Mayfield, but find it a useless exercise to argue whether he, Rosen, Allen, Darnold or Jackson, etc. is better. All I know is that this franchise desperately needs a QB and if they don't use that #6 pick to get one, I will be ticked.
Yes, it sounds obvious, but there are still people saying we have to draft a franchise QB, and arguing why this guy or that guy can't be a franchise QB.
Yep, That's the draft for you. In one system a QB can thrive, but put him in a different system and he fails. It's a very tough position to figure out. I personally think that this draft may be a very good one. Maybe even one of the best. Let's hope if we draft one we nail it.
in 1983, 1998 and 2012 there was no question that there was a franchise QB at the top of the draft. Nobody even seriously entertained the idea that anybody but John Elway, Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck would be the top pick. Note that all 3 of these guys had dads with heavy football connections setting the table for their kid and doing whatever it took to get them selected at the top of the draft and then making sure they were placed on the right team. You can argue that Eli Manning was also given this status in 2004. None of the QB's in this draft has the kind of immediate sizzle that Elway, the Mannings and Luck had. Two of them are close in Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen and two more have a sizeable cheering section in Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield. One of the QB's in this draft is underrated given his college production and that's Lamar Jackson, who is probably a better prospect than at least one of the above and maybe more. The Combine might solidify one of the 5 as the best but I am leery of that proposition at this point in the process. What they did in school and all the film that came out of that is much more likely to be a good indicator of their NFL prospects than how they did in their skivvies over the course of a week. The Combine might drop one or more precipitously and of this I am more forgiving. That's what the Combine should be doing - weeding out the people who were built up by their college program but actually don't have a lot to offer at the next level.
Just to be clear there was major debate about Leaf and Manning. That wasn't a slam dunk. And my point was that there isn't ever a guarantee that anyone will turn into a Franchise QB

Why not trade up to 1 and make sure you get the guy you love. I'm not convinced Cleveland is dead set to draft a QB. They may think they already have their guy in Kizer. Okay, after you stop laughing, bear with me. Yeah, he didn't win any games last season but he played in 15 games and they only got blown out in two, kept the score respectable in all the others, all the while gaining valuable playing experience. Other QBs have had bad first years (E. Manning, J. Goff, C Wentz) and come back the next year to put up winning seasons. If they did draft a QB, they would have to do a repeat learning season which would be intolerable for fans and players. If they traded down to 6, they would still have pick 4 and 6 and probably the Jets two second round picks and maybe next year's Jets first round or some combination thereof. That would allow them to really shore up their team which has a fair amount of talent as is. I don't think a move up to no. 1 for the Jets is beyond the realm of possibilities.

Take Quenton Nelson, look back, watch future franchise QB's tear up the league, but take solace in the fact that josh McCown is better protected.
We must draft the quartback top than Barkley or chubb because the quartback is only leader and score for wins game. We should trade up for Darnold or Rosen but I love Darnold so much. Darnold is very talent for the quartback.
The Giants are really deflecting the idea that they have to take a QB on the #2. Obviously they do not want that to be the expectation as draft day nears and then go for Saquon Barkley and get torn up in the media about passing on a franchise QB pick on the #2. I think Gettleman is trying to get out ahead of the media on this one to avoid losing a battle of perception in his first draft as Giant's GM.
I disagree on Mayfield not being a potential franchise guy but it's fair to have that opinion, however I would rather let petty start then protect McCown, at least petty would tank us to oblivion and give us the 1 overall.

I think both Allen and Mayfield will be there at #6. Please let them take Allen... For once they gotta get this right.
With all due respect and seriousness: why are you so convinced that Allen will perform above the level he's shown when he has to play against better players? I would love for the Jets to finally find their FQB, and if Allen turns out to be that guy, I'll be ecstatic, but I just don't see how that's possible.

When it comes to FQB that fit the ideal measurables and eye test, he stands out huge. Allen has a top notch arm and can throw with velocity and touch, this is an absolute must playing 8 games at a windy meadowlands. He throws on the run with incredible accuracy especially to his right. His footwork is clean after the snap in shotgun and under center. Comes from a pro style offence that produced Carson Wentz. Had a terrible OL with the cowboys along with sub par receivers and a weak run game. Every play they made he did it himself. With better talent he stood out at the senior bowl and that’s a very good sign. Don’t get me wrong he needs work on some things no doubt but I think they can be fixed. He needs to learn to step up in the pocket and deliver an accurate ball from a new launch point. This I believe can be fixed and was because he felt he was going to get rocked because of a poor OL. He also needs to trust his reads and deliver the ball a bit earlier at times. He trusts his arm a bit too much in the redzone. For me he looks like a stud in the making and we will regret ala Dan Marino if we pass on him.
