No I'm not. I just don't want to build the Jets around Kirk Cousins. I would rather pursue other areas of need in free agency before the draft. For one I would like to address the offensive line in a big way. Andrew Norwell, Guard, Panthers, 26 Ja'Wuan James, OT, Dolphins, 26 Gotta protect our franchise quarterback we draft in rd 1.
My goodness..your Posts make TOO MUCH SENSE How does JetsNation know you settled for Petty or Hackenberg??? ...the stuff people say is ridiculous People talk and act here like signing Cousins would be the answer to ALL our problems...in fact as you mentioned his deal is EXTREMELY dangerous given the amount of $ we are stuck with him after he sh*ts the bed losses game or gets injured A younger QB you can work along and gradually improve is actually SAFER I just revisited UCLA highlights of J Rosen and if kids here took the time ..they would FORGET KC in a heartbeat for a kid who is younger healthier and can play pro ball ASAP
This post has nothing to do with the post I quoted. But I agree, if we miss on cousins we should look at some o lineman, even if we sign cousins we can still add one or 2 good pieces before the draft.
That post by NC was good stuff. It's big picture stuff. I agree with him. I hope Mac is patient and has the courage to employ that strategy. After seeing how much money Alex Smith got, I'm glad we didn't try to pay him like that. Let's do this thing right, and not appease the masses screaming for Cousins. Popular opinion isn't always right.
FJF, I don't want to build the Jets around Kirk Cousins. He is not a 30 million dollar quarterback, in my opinion. I don't even want him for a 20 million AAV. Just my opinion. If we sign him, I will root hard for him. I prefer a different route building the team than you is all. I get you like Cousins a lot, and perhaps you are right about him. We will just have to agree to disagree. Ok?
Mac, and Bowles, don’t have that luxury. You think they keep their jobs with one or two potentially losing seasons while a rookie QB is groomed? The first couple of years of a regime are the forgivable years; Mac’s dumb ass wasted them on Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh McCown.
I appreciate the attempt but we are currently discussing, right now, since that’s what we are looking at, what QBs are better now. So I’m not going to get into all those possibilities or hypotheticals. Right now though. In my opinion. Any of those QBs would be worth more money than what Cousins Is looking for. Cousins doesn’t have many years left either. So it kinda goes both ways, no? He is already 30 after all.
That’s your opinion. Manning isn’t but bad, the way I see it. He for dicked over as soon as the hired Macadooooodle as HC. Dumb move. Set that offense back. The other QBs you say have proving to do. I watch them play, I feel they are better and give more potential now. They will likely only get better than that as they go. Newton elevates the play of that offense. He may not be a better pure passer but overall he brings more to the position. IMO Stafford is much better. Not even close to me. Winston is debate worthy for me but I still give him the edge as a passer.
Of course I do. I actually watch these college QBs play throughout the year. I am not blinded by individual stats. I can use my brain to conclude he’s not worth the risk to me. I don’t think he’s crazy amazing. I don’t think he will ever be a dominate QB. Ever. Settling for an above average QB may be your thing, not mine.
Yep. Fuck yeah I do. He has an IT factor to him. He elevates the play around him. That team was night and day as soon as he started playing for them. You don’t get that with Cousins. Ive never watched Cousins play and said to myself “ Damn, this guy is really fucking good.” I have several times with Garrapolo. Fuck stats. I want a game changer, winner, someone that changes a team into a winner. Someone who knows how to put their teammates in the right position to be a factor throughout a game. Someone who understands protections and knows when to check out of a play. Someone that will have that IT factor at the end of games. Cousins isn’t that. Get off the stat bus and use your brain. It’s not hard. Keep giving me shit though because clearly you have it figured out. Paaaahhhleaseeeee....
Then pay him to be just good enough and draft Barkley. The Jaguars got within a couple of plays of the SB with having BLAKES BORTLES as their QB.
Cousins will end up in Denver, so we may as well be rooting for Foles, or be content with McCown until we have a few more quality pieces on the team. Gambling big time and Trading up for one of these rookies will set us back big time. Makes no sense to even consider the option. Take the best player available (if Mac is capable to not screw it up), add pieces we need elsewhere. We have too many holes, drafting a rookie QB with a high pick considering all the offensive coaching juggling, tells me the staff won't pick one. Bates being our coordinator now should tell everyone McCown will be our starter in 2018-2019. Experience is a must at the QB position while Bates learns on the job. They even got Bates a "helper", by getting a coach to run the running game. Lol Everyone waiting for us to attempt grabbing a FQB in April might as well get their crying towels out. This is gonna be a very slow rebuild. We will probably grab Fitz the CB (please don't be Millner part II), or one of the pass rushers considered to be top 10. Barkley would be a good pick if available, but I bet anything that we go Defense in round 1. Are the O-linemen considered to be top of first round, really worth it or are they considered to be a reach? If we miss out on Foles, McCown will be our guy for a couple years before we have someone else. I would bet money that our staff goes with this idea.
How does trading up set us back big time? If we miss, we will still have picks to round out the roster, it will just need to be a lot more thought out and selective. We would still have plenty of cap to add pieces in FA. We wouldn’t have to mortgage a ton of future picks to trade up. We do have two second round picks to play with as well. They are fairly valuable as well. We go Cousins, then miss, we literally are fucked because we won’t have any cap to do anything. Sign new players or retain valuable players already on this team. We have to get a QB. It will happen this offseason, I’m not into garunteed predictions but I would bet on it. Mediocre just wont be good enough at this point. It will either be a high draft pick or someone like Cousins.
And 25th is dead wrong, no matter how man times you say it. Only the most unrealistic fan puts a list like that together. Sorry, I'm not buying that you even believe it.
I understand this is the way you are tailoring your point but this is counterproductive to discussions based in reality. All of these discussions are regarding a franchise quarterback. General consensus is that a FQB is someone a team can rely on for more than 1 or 2 seasons. Specifically, we are talking about signing Cousins, which presumably means for 5+ years or drafting a QB which means 5+ years investment. Why would we be talking about QBs, right now, who are unavailable to the Jets today? Furthermore, several of the QBs you list will be retired within 2 years and another significant portion have not proven themselves in the league yet, in my opinion.
maybe, if he goes though, I'd like to use FA money on our o-line so whichever QB we draft will be well protected and set up for success.
100% agree. Solder, Joeckel and Robinson should get a look. Maccagnan is notoriously frugal when it comes to lineman though. Not sure how much he spends. He has said on record, he feels as though the best deals in the draft are mid-round OL.
How so? Denver and the Jets had the exact same record; and according to the league standards we were better since we beat five teams other than the Broncos with a more difficult schedule but they only beat four teams other than the Jets with an easier schedule. We may have shit the bed against the Broncos, but we were a better team overall. Not only that, we have the money to actually improve the team around him while also signing him, whereas Denver had to get rid of key players, like Talib, to make room for him. Under what standard does Denver equate to a better chance to win than the Jets at this point?
I believe the general consensus is that Denver is build to "win now" and was hindered solely by horrific QB play. As for the Jets, I believe the general consensus is that the Jets are a team improving but still have a lot of holes to fill before being a contender. Also, leaving one dysfunctional organization (Washington) for another (Jets) may not be all that appealing. Denver seems to be more stable historically. All of this is an opinion.
