Pretty much every QB picked outside of the top 10 is a flyer in todays NFL.

Picking a QB at 6 is totally different than pick 51. I dont fault him for drafting Hackenberg and Petty, but if Mahomes and Watson are better than the QB he gets this year he is toast.

at this point in his career, cousins is a much better FA QB then brees was and a much safer bet.
Brees started 4 years for the chargers he was 33-31 only made the playoffs once and was 0-1 (lost to us) he also had a good defense and LT at RB so one hell of a run game. he never threw for 4k yards and only passed 3500 once. 3 our of the 4 years he threw 15 or more INTs. he was also coming off a major injury.

Cousins has been a good QB. Had he held the Skins back or the Skins have held him back? When it comes to the Skins I’d always defer to the latter. They have not been a well run organization.

To be fair I don't think it's a crazy claim, you could make the argument for him being number 19, and have it not be a crazy claim for me personally he is number 17, but I can see an argument for 19 or 20. I have cousins ahead of Eli and smith but I don't think it's absurd for someone to have a list like the one below

    1. Brady
    2. Rodgers
    3. Wilson
    4. brees
    5. Wentz
    6. Newton
    7. Big Ben
    8. Luck
    9. Rivers
    10. Stafford
    11. Carr
    12. Ryan
    13.Jimmy G
    14.Prescott
    15.Goff
    16.Watson
    17. Manning
    18. Smith
    19. Dalton/Cousins

I don't think question is whether or not Cousins is a good quarterback. I think it's is he worth occupying such a large portion of our cap?

    LMAO really?

Rivers? what has he won? and cousins has better numbers
Stafford? the 2 are eerily similar across the board. if you think stafford is top 10 how can you say cousins isn't?
carr? same thing cousins has better numbers more proven and again carr hans't won anything with a better team
Jimmy G? he's played 5 games total. even kaepernick looked ok after his first 5 games
watson? again he hasn't proven it for 3 years could be a 1 year wonder. remember how much eveyrone loved RG3 and vince young?
Prescott again ahsn't won anything cousins has better numbers. has a better team around him
manning? sure he's won a lot and played many years but even his best season in 10+ years isn't as good as cousins worst season
Smith? he had a good 2017 still lost in the playoffs (hans't won a playoff game his career) been traded away twice, and again his numbers aren't close to cousins
    Dalton? again really?

I'm not going to argue with your top 8. solid list for sure but after those top 8 cousins is better then or at least as good as everyone else on that list. the fact you are reaching for players who have played less then 10 games in a career is a joke.

we have the cap so why not. if not him someone else will. better then spending 20mil on wilkerson. would you rather have wilkerson at 20 mil or cousins for 28 mil more? here I'll do you one better wilkerson + skrine = 28.5 mil in cap room. cousins should get about 28.5 mil a year. would you rather have cousins or wilk and skrine?

It’s a no brainer really. Our highest paid player after we cut Wilk is Beachum at $8m. We have the space and top 10-15 QBs practically never hit the open market. Especially those that throw for 12k yards in their three years as a starter.

I’d be happy with any of these guys outside of Prescott, Dalton, and Smith. Those are the (3) that I don’t feel are capable of winning the Super Bowl. Watson is also still a question mark in my eyes, but definitely has a chance.

The issue is that there are 32 NFL franchises and only about 16-18 QB’s at any given time capable of doing the job at a high level.

If you don’t have one of these guys you better have a super team around your lesser QB like Minny, Jacksonville, or the Jets with Sanchez.

I think so. Waiting to see what happens in the draft isn’t worth risking not having a QB next year.

That's the problem I have with Cousins. Any of those Top 8 can carry a team on their back, but I don't think Cousins can. If you surround him with enough talent, sure, he can win a SB. I'd say a better version of Sanchez in that way. But by the time the Jets have assembled that talent - I'll be optimistic and say 2 years - Cousins is then 32 or 33, and now your window is closing down to maybe 3-4 more years of SB potential. That's also assuming Cousins stays healthy and produces at or better than the level he has been.

Most Jets fans would probably be on board with that, but keep in mind while they're winning like this they're getting lower draft picks and also probably having to spend a lot of cap space to keep their talent, so when Cousins ages out, will the Jets be in a position to reload? Maybe, maybe not. If not, then we go back to the poor-to-mediocre level.

I'm not saying to not sign Cousins necessarily, but I think the better long term approach is to draft the face of the franchise and build the team - and system - up around him.

    Crazy claim?

It’s not that crazy homie. It’s funny you think it’s crazy to be honest.

    Brady
    Rodgers
    Brees
    Big Ben
    Rivers
    Manning
    Wentz
    Goff
    Smith
    Mariota
    Garoppolo
    Carr
    Wilson
    Prescott
    Stafford
    Winston
    Newton

Off the top of my head. I think those QBs are better. That’s 17 other QBs in the league that I see being worth more money than Cousins.

Just in the league. That’s not including how I feel about some of these QBs in the draft this year.

Like I said, top 20 QB looking for top 3 QB money.

    Not worth.

For how many years are each of these players viable and how affordable after contract adjustments.
    ?

30% of your list is retired within 5 years.
The rest will be astronomically unaffordable with their next contract.

wentz, garappolo, prescott, goff, mariotta still have some proving to do before i would list them ahead of cousins.
eli right now is not better, newton either and won't age well with his style. stafford is on even ground with cousins. winston most certainly is not.

25th QB, no wonder you think you see more potential with any of the draft QBs.

You'r not crazy at all. There are a lot of smart rationale minds who share your views, and would have a list close to yours. He'll my neighbor is a Redskins fan and on occasion during the season he and I would talk football. We're both old school NFL fans. He bitched and complained about Cousins a lot, and never wanted to build his team around him. He hated losing to the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles. His nickname for Kirk was Cuckold Cousins. He's actually relieved to be done with the annual Cousins drama, and looking forward to a fresh start with Alex Smith.

Cousins still has some proven to do as well. Maybe he's a late bloomer. His next team is his chance to blossom. To prove to everyone he deserves to be the highest paid quarterback in the NFL...

you are ignoring the very real economics of the nfl and free agency.

    I disagree with that
    brady and rodgers? sure

but wilson has always had a beast run game and defense and even with that he still couldn't win the big one. matter of fact he threw the SB losing INT to the pats. Even with their D and still a decent run game they aren't doing very well. he also killed jimmy Gs career lol. Ben is another one. we can't say for sure. when was the last time pitt had a bad defense? or a bad run game? he's had holmes, plax, juju, brown, bryant, ward, i mean a plethora of great WRs he's always been surrounded by a ton of talent. he's never had to carry anything. newton hans't carried anything either. niether has wentz

out of everyone on your list only 3 Qbs have actually carried teams that weren't great. Brady, Rodgers, and Brees. i don't think anyone here thinks cousins is on their level i sure as hell don't.

reas my reply above. you are reaching hard just like the other list. you think a guy who played 5 games total is better then a guy who has 3 years i a row with no injuries, 400+ yards 25+ TDs 65+% completions? please
