The thing is the Rams were going from 15 to 1 in a QB draft that many thought were overrated. This draft has a lot of talent / value. But hey, I have no issues with them trading up to 5 and taking Mayfield. They'll give up both first rounders and probably a ton of other picks. Jets will take the better QB in Jackson. That is if the Jets don't get Cousins.
I'm more concern about getting a QB that wins games vs put up good fantasy stats. I live in Charlotte right now; without having the stats in front of me, I'm pretty sure Cousins is statistically much better than Cam. Yet IMO Cam does more to help his team win. At the end of the day, isn't that what's it's about? I'm not interested in fluctuating between 7-9 and 9-7 for the next 3-4 years while Cousins is making the Pro-Bowl as a 3rd alternate. I rather we take our lumps for 1 or 2 more years with a young QB, if it means serious SB contention every year for the next 7-10. *EDIT - I heard Gettleman say that and couldn't believe it. He must have been suspended in time for the past 2 decades. That is simply no longer the case with the new CBA.
Window dressing. Bottom line is he picked two busts. And a 2nd round pick is a premium pick. That's all that matters.
Where is anyone saying sign Cousins because the Jets are better than we thought so we're going for a win now approach? Better Cousins is 30, not 35. He would still be around as the team gets better. It's not keep Fitz because he won here last season. Not close to the same thing
I agree with your perspective. But this basically means the Jets will need to be drafting 1st or 2nd for the player you're talking about. Obviously a new regime would be drafting that player but the current regime would need to be led to water with a can't miss prospect to have any hopes of getting it right. This regime will most likely cost us 5 years if they draft someone in April. I'm so jaded...
Nonsense. Two different scenarios, you can't compare throwing a 4th out for a backup the same as drafting 6. No matter how many times you say it
Nothing nonsensical about it. Mac picked two stinkers at QB. One with a premium pick when no one else wanted anything to do with the kid. Deal with it. The Hack pick is a stain on him and nothing you can do to change that. You sure have a lot more faith in him to make the right move at 6 than most. Thankfully Cousins is already proven. Mac is not.
Wow, really? You would take a FQB if it meant enduring his 2 years or so to develop into a stud over a guy who just puts up numbers but loses? Lol, who wouldn't? Only problem is it isn't one or the other. You could pass on Cousins, he could win for 6 or more seasons whole you play footsie with Sanchez II
Cousins could win for 6 or more seasons or he could continue his barely struggling to get to .500 record. Rosen, Darnold, Allen, Mayfield, Jackson...etc. have won just as many playoff games as Cousins, which is none. Given our history I would much rather play footsie with Sanchez II than with the 2.0 version of take your pick from the following: Esiason, O'donnell, Favre, Mirer, Reich, Fitzpatrick, Vick, McCown...etc. The former has more playoff wins as a Jet then the latter group combined.
Hey couldn't you find more scrub QBs to list? Should I throw a list of all the busted top 6 QBs drafted? You don't seem to get that the chances aren't great that any of these QBs hot it big, nevermind the 3rd or 4th best of them. You make it sound like out choice is a veteran bum our a stud and that's just not it. If you think that's the choice so be it.
Waiting with bated breath for the long list of 1st round QB busts the Jets have drafted. By the way, I'm old enough to remember that most of those guys weren't considered veteran bums at the time we signed them.
^ The impatience is true pertaining to draft picks as well. You think this fan base is going to tolerate a guy who requires 2 years to develop? Look @ Hack. People want the poor guy dead.
You think Hack has it rough. How much rope you think this fanbase will give a guy getting paid $30 million a year? It's not exclusively a Jets thing by the way, it's a NY thing. I remember how much flack Allan Houston got from Knicks fans after signing that $100 million deal. It's as if they thought the money should have suddenly turn him from a jump shooter to Michael Jordan. Trust me, those same unrealistic expectations will be placed on Cousins.
Oh, so it's only Jets QBs now? Because who was brought in by others, before FA, has what exactly to do with what we can get in Cousins? And yes, Mirer, Boomer, Favre, etc were all old vets. I'm old enough to have been sitting in the stadiums for all of those picks.
5 years is about right, 2-3 years finding out he can’t play 2-3 years starting the next candidate. Seems like a fair estimate
Really? I wouldn’t be advocating a rookie QB as the grand solution If I was afraid of failing. I see the many, many, many red flags with Cousins. I’m smart enough to realize that risk isn’t worth the money he’s asking for. I don’t view him as a top 10 QB at all. So I guess that would be a big difference in our arguments as well. To me, he’s a top 20-25 guy. Definitely not top 10. Guess we’ll find out. If we went Cousins I wouldn’t root against the guy. Just because of my initial opinion of him. I hope him success. I just don’t think he’s good enough to be paid what he’s asking for. I don’t think he is good enough to be the guy that makes us some power house in the league. Which is what I want to see. I could see that potential with one of these top QBs in the draft. The talent is much better than what Cousins has to offer. That’s my stance. Afraid. I’m not.
i'd honestly love to know the minimum 19 QBs you consider better then him. i want to see the list with a crazy claim like that
How many playoff games did Brees win in San Diego? That’s a weak factor to use to judge a QB by. Hell, in this era of great QB’s wining multiple Super Bowls, arguably the best QB playing, Aaron Rodgers, only has one. Point being sometimes that team success has something to do with the team as a whole which even a great QB can’t overcome.
