Couldn't agree more. In the end, it's just amazing to me that a multi-billion dollar business like the NFL can evolve over nearly 100-years, incorporate all sorts of modern technology, and NFL talent evaluators are still a bunch of coin-flipping retards.
if people could predict the future they play lotto and not be scouting talent. It's near impossible to figure out if someone can do something in the future.
Cousins to the Jets does make a lot of sense for all involved. For the Jets: -He solves their QB issue. -He frees up their draft situation to fill other holes. -He becomes the face of the franchise and new hope in the future. -At 30 he still has 5+ years of peak ability. For Cousins: -Cap space allows the Jets to pay him top dollar. -Team is young and building in the right direction. -Easier division than Denver. -Easier conference than NFC. My one problem if I was Cousins, is the Jets are a mess of a franchise, historically. Coming from the Redskins, I would probably choose to go to a more stable franchise, like the Broncos.
Not to harp on Brady, but when I watch NFL talkingheads discussing why he lasted until the 6th round and saying things like, "They couldn't measure his heart," I want to puke. Truth is, he won 20 games at Michigan and his two biggest wins were in his two bowl games - one overtime win and one late fourth quarter comeback. How'dya miss that, geniuses?! I suppose we should all thank Lloyd Carr for hiding him from NFL scouts behind Drew Henson. Back on the issue of economics and the NFL, a couple things will just never make sense to me. First, why the market for NFL coaches isn't more Wild West than it is. If I were a team owner and I could pay $20 million a year to either Kirk Cousins or Bill Belichick, which would be more likely to improve performance and value of my team? I'm talking about Belichick in 2018, not the guy who was fired by the Browns 20 years ago. Second, NFL scouting departments are embarrassingly understaffed and underfunded. There are +/-250 FCS and FBS college teams feeding the NFL, but teams carry a handful of regional scouts and spend peanuts on what amounts to R&D in any other industry. Yes, every game is on tape, and yes there's all sorts of private scouting. So, an NFL should save a few million on a dozen more scouts and instead spend $24.99 on Mel Kiper's guide? It makes no sense at all. When Bob McNair makes a $37 million oopsy on Brock Osweiler, I'm thrilled. It's his own stupid fault. I'm very much in favor of separating idiots from their money.
Yes that's correct Dark..stability and winning is what he is looking for ...unless he is a greedy liar...exactly what the JETS DONT HAVE Him coming Here COSTS US 34 Mil right off the bat.."cap space " allows us to be ripped off and left with about 60 Mil to sign other players..which will go fast Easier what? He won't win with present roster as constructed e.g. Poor OL best receiver will go to jail ASJ is meh Defense in Toilet with Kacy...He gets Shoddy Toddy as a coach ?? Bates is only connection but Cousins must know what a conservative a hole Bowles is Our rebuild ? Young team? It's terrible ..no talent here ...we need to DRAFT a lot of players just like we need to draft a QB You draft a POTENTIAL COUSINS he could be good for 10 years This is a quick fix ...just like with Favre..except he actually won a SB..this guy has really done sh*t and not worth the money...tons of red flags ..but rush into this marriage lmao...typical Jets You are absolutely right... Capt Kirk taking off to Stargate Denver
filling your biggest hole and still having 60 million to spend in free agency, and 3 draft picks in the 1st 2 rounds is a big improvement for the jets. if we don't land cousins we are pretty much forced to use that 6 pick on a QB or even worse that pick and a few others to move up. landing cousins means we can grab a playmaker at 6. a chubb or barkely. or even trade back for more picks. we can address the o-line. so in reality if we land cousins that still allows us to 1) sign o-line in FA 2) sign CB in FA 3) Draft chubb or barkley 4) use the 2nd round picks on o-line and maybe WR instant upgrade.
Maybe ,,,maybe not Kicker is he will choose to go elsewhere..to a team he can win now ..not wait Sure coming to the Jets is an upgrade ...I won't argue that ...but ITS COMPLETELY ONE SIDED 90 percent good for Jets (even though in my heart I don't think it will be) 10 percent benefit to Cousins e.g. Big Money/long wait time for a good team ...sh*tty GM ...terrible Coach .....Bates will have NO SAY in Offense Captain Kirk is not stupid..he is asking Sulu to set course for the Grand Canyon
The problem for Kirk is good teams aren’t usually looking for QBs. If Jacksonville and/or Minnesota are interested then I would imagine that they would be the favorites but all indications seem to be that they are staying put with the QBs they have. That leaves bad teams left. The Jets and Browns have enough cash available to seriously upgrade the team around Cousins while the Broncos are going to have to cut talent just to be able to afford him.
IDK about all that. cousins is singing a LTD likely 5-6 years. in NFL years that's a lifetime. lets look at the "win now" both the jets and broncos won 5 games in 2017 while none suffered major injuries. both did it with not so good QBs Both defenses allowed the same points per game (23.9) despite the jets defense having an extra 100 plays run on it. Denver will also lose talib if they sign cousins which is a big blow to their secondary. on offense they have thomas and sanders at WR. not much depth behind them and no good TE. sure both are capable 1000 yard WRs but so are enunwa and anderson. plus we have kearse and likely ASJ as well. at the RB position anderson is just decent. i'd take powell and maguire over anderson and booker any day. I'd say the jets have more weapons on offense then denver overall. they do have a better o-line though but we can fix that if we land cousins. If denver lands cousins they can't do much to improve. we can still sign o-line and a WR for him. a landry or robinson maybe. and have an extra 2nd round pick now for the future sanders and thomas will be 31/30 at the start of the season. the age where WRs decline. not much left in the tank. for us enunwa, anderson and kearse are all young. enunwa and anderson could both be here the next 5+ years with cousins. that creates chemisry and consistency. We are one of the youngest teams in the NFL. denver is not. a lot of their players are on the wrong side of 30 So one could easily argue that not only are we a better "win now" option then denver, we are also a better option for the length of the contract
Absolutely. I put a HUGE part of the blame on college coaches. Mostly for lousy coaching and development. I watched the Kentucky-Northwestern bowl game and I swear the coaches were having a stupid-off. Where I'd never blame a college coach is defending his players and even over-hyping them as draft picks. Pete Carroll going on record saying Sanchez wasn't ready for the NFL was a pretty unique thing. Mack Brown giving cover to Vince Young when he scores a 6 on the Wonderlic - that's more common. And I think it should be. As few as there are, you'd think there'd be more trading and tampering. Or why someone hasn't filled Bill Cowher's swimming pool with money since he retired ten years ago. Not that I think Cowher is any genius coach, but instead of taking another three-year flyer on an unproven guy coming off a good year as a coordinator? In a second. Yeah, I hear you, but the track record of NFL teams missing on players is just staggering, and the talent part of it is almost the easy part. It's everything else that leads to all the washouts. A guy like Johnny Manziel should be scientifically predictable. Google knows ten seconds before I'm about to click on lesbian porn, but the Brown's can't figure out that Manziel is a hillbilly drunk who couldn't start for the worst team in the league? There's got to be some genius out there who could whip together some kind of algorithm to at least improve the odds. Follow that with an army of scouts doing nothing but feeding it with every bit of information imaginable and maybe we'll start cracking the code.
I want no part of Cousins and giving that guy anything north of 100 million will be a waste. The Jets do not have the pieces for him and I doubt they will get them within a few months. Plus our GM and coaches suck and they know they are on the S.S Titanic.
Is he really be generous? Everytime his player contract is renegotiated and he takes less , his TB12 contract is increased. Unfortunately Brady will be retired by the time the next CBA (2021 I think) closes that loophole.
So you want a rookie, who would need even more and better peices that we wouldn’t be able to obtain in a few months?
I can't wait for Q to come back and shut these damn haters up. The outside thinks we don't have receivers, but we have 4 guys that can get seperation in Q, Robbie, Kearse and Hansen. If we can get Cousins, Hansen's stock will skyrocket IMO. That catch over Lattimore this season, was just impressive. This kid has talent, he will replace Kearse more than likely in a few years. I don't want to stereotype, but I see a Jordy Nelson type player right there. We got better depth then the Broncos. Also, if you are Cousins, who has more job security? Vance Joseph or Todd Bowles? I think Bowles is the far better coach, and people will hate on me for that. Check any Broncos Message board and see what they say about Joseph. Many thought he should be fired in his first year.
First year, many here thought Bowles shoulda been fired first day. You’re right about Hanson though. Kid looks smooth out there.
It doesn't surprise me at all. The NFL has more points of failure than any other professional sport because of the physical abuse the players take and the pressure they face to play with injuries despite that fact. You also have a much bigger locker room in the NFL than in any other pro sport and so there are more social landmines to step on also with all those guys around you.
Yes, its time we develop our own QB. Its called coaching backed by scouting. Tired of the cop out BPA. How is that doing your job. If Bowles and company can't do that then they need to go away and get someone in there that can. The Jets are on auto pilot from ownership down to the water boy. Just throw any kind of product out there and reap the benefits (money). The fans should demand more and they deserve more. I would rather role with a first round QB and keep our salary cap managable for years than go with Cousins and wreck it. The Jets can get a WR/OT/OG and maybe a runningback in free agency. That would help any QB.
