I think the Broncos are our biggest threat.
The defense is stacked, the fans and media aren't assholes, and they have organizational stability with Elway even if Joseph gets canned. But they are tight with cap.

Much of the same can be said about the Vikings and I think they are dark horse.
Keenum played well but Cousins is upgrade. They have decent cap space too.

Jets primarily offer $ but also Cousins likes Bates and system. We also have draft capital and extra cap to improve team.
Not quite as attractive as Den or Minn maybe but I think we are a strong consideration.

I hope the Browns can convince Cousins to go to their franchise. Lay out their plan in free agency and the draft. Really get Cousins to see their vision. Then the Jets trade up to preferably No. 3, because it would cost less, and get Rosen or Darnold. Either of those two are a good bet imho. A franchise quarterback who is a Jet for life.

Rosen and Darnold are not good options imo. No way I trade up for either, especially not Rosen.

His arm is pretty damn strong. If you watch a lot of his throws they are darts, sometimes he may need to even get a little more air on some of his throws as he's got a pretty good rifle. Here's one that he threw that went 60 yards in the air...

Also at the combine when he was coming out (not that I'm a big combine guy) one of his throws was radar gunned at 59 mph, tied for second all-time in QB combine records (the record was 60 mph). The guy has a well above average arm.

He was the only reason the Redskins won 7 games IMO and a lot of Skins fans will tell you the same. The Redskins ownership makes the Jets situation look stable and that's why he's done there.

I think Cousins is a much safer move with good upside than the Jets taking a QB at 6 based on their horrid QB draft history.

If Kirk doesn't come here lets pray he goes to Denver or Cleveland. One less team ahead of us taking a QB and we can trade up to #1 if he goes to Cleveland.

Man you have to like the Jets chances of getting an exciting player at QB this year. Even if they can’t sign Cousins, that means Denver probably has him and there’s one less team competing for Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Jackson... Hopefully the giants actually pick an OL to help Eli too.

Mac can’t whiff this time around. It’ll be his career.

  10. I totally get it. I guess where I'm at as a fan I'm more interested in finding your theoretical QB..than I am about flexibility. I know folks don't mean for it to sound this way..but it's almost like "Let's sign Cousins so we can do A-B-C-D".It leaves an impression of a"Good enough" sort of attitude when there are counter arguments to Cousins playing ability, price tag & why he's even available. I'm more interested in getting QB right...bc it's held us back way too long. If it means a less definitive offseason plan at other positions..I'm fine w. that. Overlooking Cousins detriments & the associated risk solely so we can move on to other positions leaves me wondering if folks really grasp how desperate we are for a QB savior or if they're willing to do the hard right to fix it.

Yeah, I agree with your latter point here. Flexibility is a "pro" for signing Cousins.

Washington had a 15 point lead with 6 minutes on the clock, the defense blew that game vs NO. They beat Seattle in Seattle, he led the Skins offense to 30 points vs the Vikings, his defense let Keenum throw 4 TDs.

That Redskins team is steaming garbage.

Of note: a quality QB leaving the AFC for the NFC.

    Let’s list the conference quarterbacks.

NFC: Rodgers, Brees, Wilson, Wentz, Ryan, Newton, Jimmy G, Goff, Stafford, Smith, Eli, Dak, Winston, Mitch, Vikings have 3, Cards have 0 (lol)

AFC: Brady, Ben, Rivers, Carr, Watson, Luck, Tannehill, Tyrod, Bortles, Flacco, Dalton, Kizer, Mahomes, Seimian

The NFC kicks the shit out of the AFC QB wise. Is it crazy to say that the Jets have a top 4 QB in the AFC if they sign Kirk?

it's more on the skins as their situation. if they resign kirk they basically can't do anything else. in other words no ways to improve but the draft. by letting him walk they'll get a comp pick (likely 3rd rounder) which they traded away their 3rd for smith so it's a wash. but they money saved will help them improve on their issues. the skins just have too many overplaid players not pulling their weight

Idk about that. Maybe in the short term. But Cousins eating up a lot of your cap room for multiple years is a lot less flexible. Not saying the Jets shouldn't go after him, they should. But in a couple years paying Cousins like $25 million and being up against the cap, it ain't gonna feel very flexible

I get where your coming from on this, we all want the QB situation fixed. Cousins is the safest bet right now at an attempt to fix it for a number of years. None of these kids is that can’t miss guy this year and if they were we are on the outside looking in to draft one.

Free agency fills needs and the draft should be used to add talent. Cousins would fill our biggest need. We have other needs at edge rusher, cornerback, and Oline. We can’t fix all of it this year in FA ... but we could make some huge strides.

He's 40 and not the Jets future...I get that

BUT WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE HE DID ANY WORSE IN 21017 THAN CAPT KIRK??

The fact is he sucks for the long term and may not repeat his same performance in 2018 but a PERFECT TUTOR for a young QB we draft

Both him and Cousins are BOTH big ifs...of course the big difference is hype and $

Most of the NFL pays the QB big bucks. We’ve been going the cheap route with little effectiveness. We can go with a rookie and pay him big money in 5 years, but there is also the chance that we draft someone at 6 and end up with a piss poor qb situation all over again.
