Did you not include TD's because your only cherry picking stats that support your case? 81 for Kirk to 61 for Alex in the last three seasons. Smith got his best career production with Andy Reed. I don't know if Gruden gets much more out of him than we've already seen. They are similar guys stat wise. Both in the top ten of QB's this year. I think cap wise this is a good move for Washington. Over all health of of their franchise? who knows. I would venture to guess they are in the QB market this draft though.
If cousins was so good the redskins would just pay the man. If they don't then why should the jets? He's not even worth 15 mil a year.
Got ya! didn't see the link. I still stand by my last paragraph though. They are both very good NFL QB's with Flaws that need planned around.
Of those top QBs you list although they may be better they are nearing the end of there careers.... Brees, Ben, Brady, Rivers....playing at a high level now but I would prefer the 30 year old cousins. I am not completely sold on cousins as it's a big chunk of change but what I do like is the idea the Jets could trade down for additional pics or draft a game changer such as Barkley or maybe the best edge rusher in the draft. I just like how it opens up options. Also I remember a rumour Mac tried to trade for cousins before trading for Fitzpatrick. If that's the case he is an even more established QB than at that time.
Luck is one of a few QBs who can carry a bad team to the playoffs if you would take Cousins over Luck regardless of injury I don't know what you're watching.
You would take Newton who is breaking down and not adjusting his game over Kirk Cousins who the last 3 years has played the position better? Next 5 years who do you truly take? Whose game will mature over time?
Huh? We still living in 2014? AFC South was absolute TRASH those years. I wish the Jets were in the AFC South during those days.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-lead-list-of-possible-landing-spots-in-2018/ Pay the man. The Jets would be a force with Cousins. Spend the 6th pick on a player to support him (OL or Saquon).
Someone SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE that Kirk Cousins is worth it??? This is ALL HYPE surrounding him but THE FACTS are a different matter....caveat emptor 10 times (buyer beware) His stats??? What against a bunch of bad teams? Someone name ONE TEAM he beat that was really good...hmm this season he beat the Rams but if you check out the Wash schedule New Orleans and other top notch teams outplayed him 2015 ...Lost in 1 playoff appearance Last outing ...the Giants who had a zero win record this year beat him and the skins Surround him with the best talent I srtill think he's mediocre Fools chasing fools gold...guys here talking out of both sides their mouth e.g. ""Not completely sold on Cousins but...."
Newton's rep is living off that 2015 Season. He has been the epitome of mediocre these last two seasons. His yards per attempt are way down, touch downs are down, completion % is down, his picks are up. He's an elite athlete, but leaves a lot to be desired as a QB lately.
Maybe Gruden is the one responsible for getting the kind of production from Cousins that has him on the verge of breaking the bank in the open market.
QB's, like pitchers and goaltenders, get too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. The fact that we Beat Jacksonville and KC does not make McCown a good QB becasue he beat playoff teams.
Forget the stats. Some of you need to watch Cousins play. The guy has a cannon for an arm, makes every throw, good pocket presence and so on. Does he have flaws? Of course. But so does almost every QB in the league except for a few. However he gives the Jets a chance to compete and get back into the playoffs if the GM and staff know how to put the right pieces around him. This is a pro bowl, accomplished NFL QB in his prime. A pocket QB's prime on average goes until they are about 34 or 35, so much longer than other positions. He will probably get 4 yrs/$120M or 5 years/$150M. That's just the market rate. There won't be a better option for the Jets.
Its very possible, but then again putting the right QB in the right offense always makes the QB and coach look better. The question is can Bates get the production necessary out of a guy like Cousins? Can he get it out of anyone? Former Bosses and Coworkers are raving about him in the press, but its still an unknown at this point.
He isn't dynamic, he doesn't elevate the play of his teammates & I don't consider his arm strength "Cannon" level. I respect the consideration that needs to be given to him considering our disastrous, Embarassing & seemingly hopeless QB situation but I don't believe he's the solution to what ails the franchise. I'm ready for the Jets to draft their own QB. No better year or time than now...and will be devastated if we miss out on the opportunity yet again.
True that So the fact that Cousins had a POORER year against ANYBODY says what?? Pretty much what I have said all along ...RESIGN JOSH McGown for cheap And have him tutor one of the big QBs available in draft! 40 yr old JOSHY HAD A BETTER YEAR THAN MILLION DOLLAR KIRK..hahahahaha
In theory we would all want to draft a QB and have him win multiple SB's and play for the jets for 15 years but we don't have the 1st or 2nd pick. We have the 6th pick and there is a very big chance that the 3 upper echelon QB's will be gone by then. Obviously, there's no lock that the upper echelon of QB's will amount to anything but then you have to ask yourself, do you trust Maccagnan to pinpoint who in the draft, who isn't highly regarded, would become a franchise QB? I personally do not think Macc has shown enough to merit trust in regards to that question. This is why the discussion around cousins has juice to it. You can sign this guy and completely focus on building around him versus gambling at 6, or having to waste draft capital to move up because we have plenty of holes to fill. You pick this guy up in free agency, you can use the 6th on an o-linemen, EDGE, move back and accumulate more. It's all about flexibility IMO
