I was in the Army in Europe at the time. We were in a field location in the woods. We listened to the game in the trailer of an officer who was on duty. The game came on at midnight and we loved it. There were 2 of us. We drank wine from coke cans and had great dreams that night!
I watched the game on a black and white portable 17" Zenith TV with bunny ears. To this day, I swear that it was so eerie to have the feeling that the Jets were going to win this game when the Colts put Unitas on the field in the 4th. You knew there was desperation by them. Wonder if anyone recalls the pregame ceremony where Unitas and Namath were hidden behind curtains on separate podiums out on the 50 yard line?
No, it was on NBC only. It was the first Super Bowl that was televised on both - after that it alternated between CBS and NBC until ABC got it in 1985. It being on the AFL network, with Curt Gowdy, Al DeRogatis, and Kyle Rote, only added to the pleasure.
Always have seen it reported that it was broadcast on both networks. If you've ever watched the full video of the game it was said to be made using surviving pieces of both broadcasts. Neither was saved in its entirety. Guess the story sounded good. It was the first SB though
After the game the first one to come into the clubhouse area where the cameras and reporters waited was Jim Turner. I clearly remember his first words: "WELCOME TO THE AFL."
Ah, Jim Turner. One of the old-time straight-ahead kickers. Didn't he later get traded to the Broncos?
That is NOT true as my tape was obtained from my friend who worked for NBC & my copy of the game had the entire game as aired by NBC + all the ads aired on the NBC broadcast as well as the pre game show
I'm watching the Super Bowl marathon on NFL Network tonight....Super Bowl III is on at 7:30 pm EST. I'm going to record them all on my DVR and watch them later.
They go by pretty quick fast forwarding through the commercials. It's been a while since I've watched them all. I'm up to Super Bowl VIII so far. Those three time AFC Champions and back-to-back super bowl champion Dolphins coached by Don Shula were impressive. Manny Fernandez definitely was the heart of their defense.

Ummm...no it's not. Super Bowl III was broadcast on NBC only. CBS & NBC alternated broadcasting the game until SB XIX...when ABC and eventually FOX stepped into the mix. Trivia question- Which Super Bowls were broadcast by the same network in consecutive years? Trivia question 2- Which Super Bowls used O.J. Simpson as a sideline reporter?
Trivia question 1: Super Bowls I and II, which were both televised by CBS (Super Bowl I also being televised by NBC), and the only two to be exclusively televised by the same network, Super Bowls XVII and XVIII, both by NBC. Trivia question 2: same answer as the second one above - OJ was a sideline reporter for NBC in those two Super Bowls, with Todd Christensen in XVII and Will McDonough in XVIII.
