It's hard though, it takes time to build chemistry and a couple of days is not enough time. I thought Ford broke Allens back on that one hit where they called for a screen and Ford got into backfield so fast Allen had to take sack.
I actually like aot about mayfield. The thing that scares me about him is his arm strength. I dont think its very good. Thats gonna be a problem at the NFL level. He uses his eyes, is game tested as a 4 year starter and he is a smart football player (not saying hes manning level or anything) i think he can play at the NFL level. I know its not a popular opinion Improve arm strength Learn to throw with more anticipation and he'll. Be ok Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Gesicki has been a let down today. Everything I’ve read and seen indicates his arm strength is fine. There’s a clip of him throwing 70 yds on the fly somewhere.
His arm is not great. He has a long wind up. Gonna be different in the NFL Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Sure. These are my opinions. 1) kid hasn’t seen speed remotely close to NFL speed, decision making speed is unknown 2) accuracy in the pocket is sub 60% 3) didn’t elevate talent around him in college. 4) holds onto ball. 5) throws unnecessarily hard in situations that dictate otherwise 6) doesn’t exude leadership 7) confidence needs to build These issues seem like they will require substantial coaching to improve, hence project. Edit: Also. Out to dinner with wife. Above is not exhaustive.
White looked pretty good. Is it crazy to think that the Jets should get him with the Seahawks' 2nd rounder (or is that too soon?)
White, Benkert or Lauretta? Who is going to be that sleeper that gets selected late and ends up having a good career? One of these guys will go into the right situation and thrive. I'll take 2 qbs this draft please.
If your list truly encompasses who Allen is, then he's an un-draftable player not a project. Coaching will not improve any of that. 1) No college QB has. 2) CMP% < > accuracy 3) Wyoming won 8 of the 11 games he started this past year plus went to and won a bowl game mainly because of his play as they have no other draftable player on that roster. 4) Based on the 1st half of the Senior Bowl game? 5) This does not happen as often as one might think. 6) If true, coaching is not going to help that. 7) He looked pretty confident in the 2nd half.
It’s not’ though he’s probably sitting with a 3rd round grade. However, I really believe he’s on NE’s radar now.
Lauletta is probably on their radar too. Unless we sign a quality vet, we pretty much have to draft one high which means guys like White and Lauletta are out of consideration for us.
1) “remote” is the operative word. A lot of conferences offer close to NFL speed. Mountain west is not one of them. 2) misused accuracy. Meant completion % and regardless kid was horrid. 3) Mountain West. 4) Based on the fact that he holds the ball, independent of my Senior Bowl observation. 5) in what offensive scheme? If Jets go WCO, short passes are the staple. 7) concede second half today. Though he looks like a deer in headlights often.
Valid points. I think you are probably correct. They would be a reach for the Jets if they had to take in the second or possibly trading up into the backend of 1st
Also Legler, not trying to be adversarial, but what makes you believe he would not be a project for the Jets? I don’t see how this team will be able to get him on the field in 18 and I think that’s the only thing that saves this FO. Therefore, I this FO is looking hard at Rosen and Mayfield.
I'm not trying to be adversarial either; I just think that the word "project" gets thrown out too loosely when discussing QB prospects. He doesn't have to adjust to calling plays in the huddle, learn footwork, change his mechanics...etc. Basically, he doesn't have a lot of things that require him to sit in order to correct. The areas he needs to work on (i.e., accuracy, poise, processing speed...etc) require playing time to improve if he can at all. Specifically for the Jets, Bates, if he is a true Mike Shanahan disciple as the reports say, will likely a run heavy WCO with play action (Bowles will be happy), bootlegs and roll-outs. Allen is equipped to can step in and do that right away. Finally, if this FO is looking for any of these QB prospects to win games and thus save their jobs by putting the ball in their hands, they might as well pack their bags now. None of these kids will be ready put the team on their shoulders and win in 2018.
