Wow..nothing is guaranteed? Well of course not ...that's why I like some research and stats

So if you remember Greensleeves post that teams drafting first round QBs have a67per cent chance of success to me is more of an argument then playing the "if" game of worrying who will be a bust...so your whole argument about "getting a Russel or Quinn or Osweiler based on your fears is COMPLETELY FLAWED..btw how do you compare the bunch of losers you mentioned who were no way near the QUALITY of this years class.??? .sorry apples vs oranges

You compare Cousins with these other QBs like Carr and Stanford who haven't won sh*t .,,so two wrongs make a right?? Why would the Jets want to fall into that trap of an expensive QB like Cousins who lost a playoff in 2015 and could NOT BEAT THE GIANTS a few weeks ago.Q:.."is he any worse than Eli..who won 2 SBs A : " ABSOLUTELY YES..."

Read all my posts on Cousins...he IS NOT that good

Less of a gamble than a drafted kid? Well maybe you consider paying Kirk C about one third of our Cap space ( 23 -30 million) for a five year deal a drop in the bucket???? Lol

On the other hand YES we might land a Wentz or a Goff in the draft considering the recent first rounders over the past 3 years

Yes I'm sure they'd be SB contenders with Cousins or Garrapollo at QB.
Comebacks are much easier when your opponents score no second half points and all ticky tack calls go in your favor.
Home games against Tenn and Jax wasn't too insurmountable a task. The AFC was pretty soft this year.

I agree tho from Cousins perspective Denver has more stability and pieces in place to win.
We'd need a great sales pitch and boat load of cash to get him here.

Read an article that said Cousins is extremely diligent in the way he studies each potential team he could go to. He knows all about their skill players, offensive line, etc. Said he would not just pick the team that gives him the most money, but will go where he can be successful.

And I don't think this rules out the Jets, for two reasons:

    1. Money talks, no matter what anyone says. Sure he wouldn't choose the Browns for $27 mil over the Broncos for $23 mil but...

    2. The Jets are not as bad as a lot of people here like to pretend they are. They have good receiving options (assuming Anderson isn't cut), in fact better than what Cousins just left in DC. They have guys in Powell and McGuire who can run and catch, and we'll undoubtedly be bringing in a third. They have a coach that, regardless of what internet GMs think, players love and that goes a long way. And on the other side of the ball there's a bunch of young talent that's only scratching the surface of what they could be.

Will there be better options? Most likely. But the Jets are a pretty good one if you're Kirk Cousins.

Contenders, sure. They'd likely be contenders with any average or above QB too. You said they would still be in the SB with Cousins though. That's what I would dispute. Sure Jax fell apart on O, just like many seem to do, but that has a lot to do with the guy who is under centre for NE surely? Until Cousins shows me the calmness and composure to come back consistently I'll remain sceptical that he could have delivered under pressure like that.

Jax falling apart on O has something to do with Br*dy?
Please it had everything to do with being outcoached. The coaching, preparation, game planning and adjustments in NE have made just about every QB they put behind C look good.
With a solid tier 2 QB, Cousins, Jimmy G, Matt Ryan, Rivers.....even Foles, NE still wins this Super Bowl as the competition has been weak this season.
That's why the whole 'Wins' argument for QBs is a fallacy. There are far too many variables that go into winning and losing to attribute it to the QB.
For instance Brees led his team to 2 fourth quarter comebacks in one playoff game, yet still lost. Do you think that would happen to NE?
Put Brees on NE and we'd be talking about him being the 'winningest' QB of all time. Put Br*dy on the Browns and he'd be a footnote in NFL history and long out of the league.

I totally disagree that NE would still be in the SB with Cousins at QB. That's just silly. It's an insult to Brady, and claiming that he isn't a HOF player. Brady carries that team. They aren't all that talented. His fire, his leadership, his making plays at crunch time, that's what has them in the SB. Cousins doesn't have that same fire, leadership, the ability to make plays in crunch time. He hasn't carried the Redskins on his shoulders to the playoffs.

Dude, do you hear yourself? You're getting more and more desperate and grasping at straws. Brady would still be Brady. He may not not have gotten to or won any SBs with the Browns, but he would have had them in the playoffs and had them competitive every year. Brees would have won several SBs if he was on NE, not just because of Belichick, but because he is a great QB and his mental makeup and poise are akin to Brady's.

Brady executes the Pats system nearly perfectly. Unless you get immediate pressure up the middle or an unexpected corner blitz he is going to complete the passes he needs too.

Whether he's the GOAT is irrelevant because he's the GOAT at executing his team's game plan.

It's all going to fall apart in New England when he finally goes. The next guy may be good but he will not be perfect at executing the plan and without that the Pat's system of a bunch of roleplayers with a couple of stars just won't work.

Totally agree....I hate Brady, but he is the Team!! 7/8 wins without him.....so glad they traded Jimmy G...the
thought of Pats having another elite QB would be horrible!!

The real drop off will come when Belichick leaves NE. Nobody puts his players in a position to succeed better than he does. Might be the best coach of all time as much as I hate to admit it.

    it's not incompetence it's money.

his 1st season as a starter was a contract eyar. he played great but the skins wanted more proof before committing long term, so they franchised him. 2nd season as a starter under the tag was amazing. he made the pro bowl, threw for almost 5k yards. the skins tagged him a 2nd time and tried to work out a long term deal but low balled him compared to what stafford and carr got. So cousins again bet on himself for the big contract. his 3rd year starting (2017) he once again had a great season. washington can tag him but it's going to cost them 34.5 million and then balloons to 48.3 million if they try and tag him in 2019. So at this point it's cheaper for the skins to keep him.

The only reason why it's a discussion is the skins only have 52 million in space. tagging cousins would drop that to 17.5 million. take away around 8 for rookie deals and they are left with 9.5 million to resign players and bring in free agents. not much room to improve and they have a lot of holes. We have 20 million more then them (31 million more when we cut mo) and no big free agents retain. the extra money we have over them is enough for cousins by itself. So the skins have to decide whether to gut their team to keep cousins and not get better, or move him for some picks and use the extra money elsewhere. they are in need of a full rebuild while we already passed that step last year.

Belichik's system only works because the Pats are consistently great. That's how he gets players to buy in to a system that would cause a revolt in most clubhouses. Brady is the #1 reason the Pats stay great and he buys into the system, yelling at other players who miss an assignment fairly often.

I think without Brady the Pats are an unstable franchise and Belichik winds up ousted as the players grumble over his requirement that they give up their individuality for the team. Belichik keeps control because he sends talented players who want to be perceived as stars packing. The only guys he bends too are the superstars and without them the whole system would collapse.

it depends what he considers sucess. someone said sanchez wasn't a bust, I'd consider him a bust.

as far as carr and stafford goes, yeah they haven't won shit which is why you need a complete team. in 2016 the raiders had a good shot at a superbowl, then carr went down and that was it. You also can't use 1 game. ben lost to the jags and threw 5 INTs this season. then in the playoffs he played great but still lost to the jags. He is still one of the best Qbs of our era and won multiple SBs he's also had a great defense and some great WRs and RBS during his career. bell, brown, bryant, juju, holmes, etc etc

I understand if you think he's not that good , that's fine you can think that. but you have to look at both sides. The issue is the "cousins haters" like yourself only see one option. I'm not siding with anyone i'm just looking at both sides of the coin. I'm fine either way. whether it be draft or cousins doens't matter to me. as long as we do something to address the QB situation. I just find it funny that some think a player who's never thrown a pass in the NFL will be better then cousins. I'd be shocked if even 1 QB form this class has a better career then cousins, let along it being the 1 we would get

I look at a team that fans love to bow to, Denver, and have to ask what makes them more desirable over anyone? They aren't young and other than a handful of players were built before Elway. His only success came from signing a known HOF QB. I would look at a young team like the Jets and give them props for having a possibility of long term success. Not to mention for all the respect being thrown their way, way did they finish with the same win total as the Jets?

Br*dy's career on the Browns would've looked a lot like Griese and Hensen's pro careers........guys Br*dy couldn't beat out in college btw.
He's been benefiting from a Belichick stacked deck his entire career.

But even tho you are giving Br*dy more credit than I would, the bold suggests you still agree with my point..........that wins require a full team effort involving many variables.
That is why I find it lazy to measure QB's on 'wins'...

I would love just one season of Br*dy having to play without Belichick, but Br*dy wouldn't have the stones to do it.
Was hoping the ego turmoil was real, but it will never happen.

The key will be Belichick retiring.

    LMAO

His completion percentage has dropped and he can't beat any good teams...lost a playoff game ..former manager or coach says " NOT a special player"l..if that is not a major RED FLAG I don't know what is to spend 150 million???..sheesh

I've been beating this drums for weeks and it's not those along the Mohawk for a former Redskin hah

But Red Flags and stupid decisions are just the things that motivate our FO...

Even with that the Jets are a "hard sell" versus what ??6 other teams ?? Denver high on that list and 200 percent better organized an d talented than NYJs..plus the Offense picture here in complete disarray

Yeah ..sure he's got the the House packed up and he's driving on I 95 to the Mollie Pritchard Service stop to meet Toilet Bowles where Toddy treats him to some Popeyes Chicken and a Cinnabon

Brady couldn't beat out Henson in college because of the politics that went along wtih Henson being a major prospect. Brady was always better on Saturdays then Henson was, IMO.

This isn't convincing to me. If you truly have a 29 year old stud QB, you make the financial sacrifices to keep him, even if it means screwing up the rest of the team for a couple of years. Those guys are extremely hard to get. Question: Did you see Jay Gruden's assessment of Cousins after the season? Did you see the look on his face? It's not just money, IMO.
