    Agreed 100%

Check out this thread detailing some of Allen's throws that are relevant:

If we take Allen we're repeating the Hackenberg mistake, but this time with the 6th overall pick instead of a mid 2nd rounder. With Mayfield, Rosen, and Darnold there (not to mention Barkley who is a better bet than all 3 of those guys) drafting Allen would be a total disaster for this team.

Agreed. I stumbled across that same thread on Twitter and instantly got worried about the prospects of drafting Allen. He has all the physical intangibles to be a good QB, but having prototypical QB statute means nothing if you can't put it together

Unless he reaches his massive potential, then it’s a HR.

How often has gambling paid off for previous Jets FOs? Or anyone for that matter?

Are you familiar with the “due” theory?

You do realize you did not answer the question, right? All you've done is repeat the "I saw it on the internet" response. A short piece by Manish Mehta (the guy everyone loves to hate) has a throwaway line with absolutely no reference, accreditation or explanation and you're going to hang your hat on it, not once, but twice? I'm going to call BS on this endorsement until I see something more concrete.

There may still be a chance for saner minds to prevail (assuming there are sane minds in Florham Park.) Bowles Mum on OC Job:

MOBILE, Ala. — Jets coach Todd Bowles had no comment on Tuesday when asked about last week’s arrest of wide receiver Robby Anderson and the vacant offensive coordinator’s position.

Bowles was asked several questions as he walked out of Ladd-Peebles Stadium, the site of Saturday’s Senior Bowl. Bowles indicated he’ll speak at the National Scouting Combine in March.

A source said quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates is the leading candidate to replace John Morton, who was let go after one season as offensive coordinator.

Anderson was arrested on nine separate charges after a traffic stop in Sunrise, Florida. Anderson’s attorney, Ed O’Donnell, told Newsday he believes Anderson and his representatives have spoken to Jets officials about the arrest.

Saw it on the internet from a reporter, albeit an asshole, broke the Morton story and added that people within the Jets organization think Bates is the brightest O minded coach in the building. I don't really care if you discredit him, because I too think he's slime, specifically because of his personal attacks on players, but I have to give credit when it's due and he has broken stories in the past that turned out to be true.

Also, ask yourself a simple question, if the Jets didn't think Bates was the brightest O minded coach in the building, do you think they would have fired Morton and then offered the same position to Bates?

The likely answer should be no, but they did offer the position to him, cited by one of the most trust worthy NFL news guys in the business, Adam Schefter.

So again, you can take it for whatever you want, I'm just writing what I saw.

Again, we all do not like "unnamed sources" but journalism today is just that. No one wants to put a name on it because again, if that was the case and shit hit the fan, the source would end up getting the shit end of the stick. So instead journalists mask their sources to protect them from any blowback.

    Do I like it? No.

Do I wish journalism had a standard of naming sources? Absolutely.

But it's not the world we live in.

There's pretty much no proof that this is true. It's what fans are starting to claim because Morton called 3 straight pass plays that missed after 1st and goal. It's also what too many fans think a DC type HCs are apt to run. There hasn't been a season where Bowles was over reliant on the running game. And that's with Fitz, Geno & Josh.

Well those rumors weren't just made up....

    https://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/01/john_morton_first_only_season_with_jets_filled_wit.html

The offensive coordinator, whom the Jets fired on Wednesday, clashed with head coach Todd Bowles, a source told NJ Advance Media. The year, while somewhat successful for those on that side of the ball, was filled with "friction" and "tension" behind the scenes.

There were several times Bowles made offensive suggestions to Morton, to which the coordinator wouldn't comply. Bowles wasn't a fan of Morton's pass-happy scheme, especially in short-yardage situations. Despite repeated requests to rely on the run game more, Morton never did.

Other assistant coaches took issue with Morton, too, and his play calling rubbed several offensive linemen, and those in the running back room, the wrong way. Matt Forte went public with his frustrations.

Connor Hughes says that there was friction between Morton and Bowles because Bowles wanted Morton to run the ball in short yardage situations, and Morton ignored him.

So unless the sources are lying, there was obviously some friction between the both of them and it had to do with playcalling.

Although I agree that Morton got way too pass happy at times, hard to blame him entirely given how piss poor the offensive line run blocked. Also, what did Bowles expect from someone that came from NO Saints?

Where does any of this say that Bowles wanted a total run oriented, 1970's offense? Bowles should have disagreed with 3 straight passes from the 1. I was.

I think Bowles should have expected the OC to adjust to the Jets personnel, not call the same plays as he would for a team like NO with Brees playing indoors.

I think fans, including myself, view Bowles as an incredibly conservative coach that would rather limit the risk of passing the ball more than running the ball.

Furthermore, Bowles is foolish to think that our o-line, regardless of whether it was short yardage or not, could consistently garner first downs via the run. Our o-line was absymal this year and proved that it could not consistently run the ball.

Also, one of the more pressing questions in all of this is, why did Bowles think it was a great idea to make Forte the feature back when he had 2 clearly better, more explosive RB's on the bench?

I don't think anyone is claiming per se that Bowles wants to exclusively run the ball. But we are in 2018 and the NFL is a passing league. Teams build there teams to pass the ball.

Also, according to teamranking.com - Morton was pass happy as our offensive plays were 56.61% Pass and 43.39% rush.

Bowles wants to feature the running game more, which isn't a bad thing, but he and Macc best address the o-line if they want that to be the case cause we clearly will not go anywhere running the ball with who we have playing right now.

We didn’t have any short yardage type of backs. We basically had three of the same type of runningback that can catch with some agility and speed, no bruiser in there.

Secondly our offensive line rarely got good push unless it was against a bad defensive line. Much better to pass it and get a chance for a flag or something. McCown was pretty good at not turning the ball over.

Our passing game was better than our running game. I think Forte is slow as shit, deff not a bruiser. Powell and Elijah are elusive RB's that have a ton of burst. No bruiser in there like Ivory a few years ago.

Here's what Manish wrote: "...The feeling on One Jets Drive now is that Bates, who is regarded as the best offensive mind in the building, would welcome play-calling duties." You have added the part about that sentiment coming from "people within the Jets organization." That was not stated or implied, it is an inference you made - it could be people from Fred's Bar and Grill for all we know; it could be people from the Patriots or the Browns or it could be nobody. Even if everybody in all of Florham Park believes it the possibility is that the bar has been set ridiculously low.

There is a reason that well written stories that don't state these things as fact but use terms like reportedly and allegedly - they do that to prevent people from taking rumor as fact. Sometimes those things are disproven and sometimes corroborated - I'll wait but also notice it is now Wednesday and we have no announcement. One can only hope that the Jets are looking for someone whose biggest accomplishment is in running an offense, not going Forrest Gump.
