Do I have faith in Bates to be a long term fixture?Absolutely not.Do I think he’ll even be a successful OC?Nope.Would I rather have Deflippo or Mike McCoy all things being equal?Hell yes. That said I preferred keeping Bates given this unique set of circumstances. At the very least Bates can evaluate QBs as well as develop one.He gives us badly needed continuity on offense if for nothing else than having something for the scouts to go on heading into Senior Bowl & then the combine.I think of him as the bridge OC same way I think of Bowles. No sense in finally getting a legit OC & having him leave w Bowles 2019 the latest Due to Bowles idiotic timing to finally fire Morton, the whole college evaluation process within the offense was looking at a drastic upheaval w only a week till the senior Bowl. That leaves no time for an O coordinator to trade notes & create a singular vision for offensive personnel. It is vital that the offense is finally addressed for the long term in this draft.Qb or otherwise.Cant give This regime any excuse to not go offense in FA & draft.
I think he did an incredible job that year. We ran through something like 5 different QBs that year. Just the fact he had Brook Bollinger looking somewhat passable was a tremendous accomplishment.
Sometimes the best person for a job, is the person that wants it the least. Can't say that's the case, but the story he didn't want it seems like whispers, which are always hyped to shit. Unless there are names attached to that claim that I haven't seen. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Since he stepped away from the game partly because of his reputation of rubbing fellow coaches the wrong way, maybe he did not want to come across as backstabbing Morton. Morton was still technically the OC; it's kind of messed up for the Jets to be offering him the job prior to officially terminating Morton.
Stop Gap. Bates will be gone next year along with Bowles and Mac. If they landed a Todd Haley, Defillipo or someone similarly qualified they could have taken over, so now it looks like it will be a complete overhaul next off season - not great news if we draft a QB and not very attractive for a free agent one.
Ya know, thats exactly the impression I get from this guy. He's gonna do it his way, they gave him the job, and if they don't like it they can pound sand. There's a lot to b e said for conviction and strength when it comes to running shit. Now he's just gotta back it up. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I gotcha continuity right heah! Points scored 24th Yards 28th Penalties 5th Fumbles 6th Turnover +/- 25th Great! Continuity and stability!
No doubt. Its crap. My end means is solely drafting offense & getting it right. This is a bridge coaching staff..possibly the entire regime right along w it.
It's funny how this narrative has changed so much over the last year. Before people swore that Bowles knew nothing about offense and was never involved in it, hence was a bad head coach. Now he's an over controlling dictator that's going to lead to the demise of the offense because he can't let go of his power grip. It just goes to show you that we as fans (not just you, me as well) really know very little about the inner workings of the Jets.
I still will never believe the Jets will go offense in the first round. Not untill Macc and Bowles are gone.
He is controlling ...but stupid. Doesn't bother coming to Offense meetings cause he has a stubborn way of doing things and won't bother hearing something new...tell me Bowles isnt Mr Conservative????
Haha. Too funny. Elmo Loves You. And Elmo Loves a Heavy Ground and Pound Running Game with Opportunistic West Coast YAC Passing.
