1 more thing are we 100% sure this is real. only mehta has reported it and i haven't seen any other source or official announcement NM it's real http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...k-jets-fire-offensive-coordinator-john-morton The New York Jets are moving on without John Morton. The team announced Wednesday it fired its offensive coordinator. "We appreciate John's contributions and wish him the best moving forward," coach Todd Bowles said in a statement. Morton, in his first and only season with the Jets, guided New York's offense to a disappointing No. 28 overall ranking in yards per game with 305.2. It was under his tutelage, however, that quarterback Josh McCown had a career year, throwing for 2,926 yards, 18 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. Per Rapoport, the Jets hoped Morton would be lured away by another team. Rapoport added quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates is a possible candidate for the vacant OC role.
Maybe I’m nuts, but what is deal with Bruce Arians? He had said in an interview a few years ago that someday he would be working for Todd Bowles. He’s a Jersey guy, I know he “retired” but something is fishy with this Morton firing. I don’t think they would do it, unless they had a plan in place. Maybe the plan is the QB coach...or maybe there is something else going on.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/articl...on_first_only_season_with_jets_filled_wit.amp Oh great..looks like Morton wasn’t conservative enough for Bowles. I was fine w Morton being let go..but after reading this I’m sick to my stomach.. Might as well just bring back Paul Hackett. Bowles cannot leave soon enough
IMO Toilet Bowles will make sure the OC hire will be some patsy or yes man to nod dumbly when TB decides to kick a field goal on the one yard for 4th and a foot to go I am telling ya Morton was not happy working for Shoddy Toddy Kacy loving the free ride hahah
think about this 3 offensive coordinators in 4 years ! What a joke Todd . As if this aint funny enough Kacey Rodgers is still the defensive coordinator,,,,,PSL ? yeah good luck with that
Apparently Bowles and Morton did not get along throughout the season and I’d think that him practically admitting that the coaching staff quit (primarily Bowles) during the Denver game was a huge reason why they eventually let him go. Wishful thought: hire DeFilippo and promote him to HC when Bowles shits the bed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Love that the team thinks he's good enough that another team will try and steal him away..... but still want to fire him. Also, the response from most of the smarter national football analysts on twitter seems to be shock that they fired a guy people generally accept did a pretty great job with maybe the worst offensive talent in the league.
Yep..I knew it Morton had a "pass Happy scheme"...way to scary for that chicksh@t Toddy Bowles Still living in the 1980 s with pounding the rock...dope
AGREED. This is too logical IMO. BA didn't like what AZ management was doing, so why not retire and go to work for his butt buddy? My only hope is he can actually teach toilet how to make adjustments.
You never admit it right or wrong. Its just a really bad optic for a perennial losing team to admit to quitting in a game. This is a losing franchise with questionable leadership and you go public with something like that? Plain stupid it was.
Mheta was the guy who reported that Bates turned down the position and he is now reporting that Bates is a candidate for the position. Typical Mheta.
As I said in a previous post, did Bowles not know what the WCO is comprised of? It's a pass heavy offense that uses short passes in place of running plays that gain minimal yardage. That being said, if a HC ask the OC to run more, then the OC should adapt, and as much as I hate to admit it, Bowles is right in firing him.
Hopefully Bruce Arians will be our new OC. Here is an article about Bruce possible being on the jets sidelines next year. If it is true it will all make sense about the firing of Morton http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/01/why_bruce_arians_could_be_involved_in_jets_trainin.html
I mean this was pretty common knowledge when we hired him. did they not realize he came from the NO pass happy offense and the sean peyton pass happy coaching tree?
I knew this guy wouldn't last long when he called three passing plays from the 1-yard line against Carolina
I think we should all withhold judgement until we see who his replacement is. Overreaction to everything is rampant up in here. Just chill out. Let the process of a losing tradition play out. There's nothing else we can do at this point. Whining is counterproductive.
