You're not wrong but 1 or 2 more years won't be terribly detrimental. I'm expecting nothing in 18, even with a good amount of cash to play with, so 19 will be the true story imo Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Todd Bowles has shown nothing of which you're referring. Look no further than his keeping Rogers despite his relentlessly embarrassing incompetence for three long, painful years. That's on Bowles. Period.
I saw this coming before last season even began. It makes sense. Nobody wants a lame duck HC and this allows them a chance to finish building the team, which means a long term solution at QB, hopefully via draft. We knew from the beginning this wasn't going to be a great year considering the roster purge, but they definitely over achieved. Before the McCown injury, the Jets were competitive in almost every game, even against elite teams. Many fourth quarter leads blown due to bad mistakes. It's indicative of a young team. This year they have money to spend and a decent draft position. Anything can happen.
I figured they'd both get a one-year extension, but two years (taking them to 2020) seems to be jumping the shark a bit.
Coaching a group that was touted as one of the worst ever to 5 wins says something. It says that the players bought into him trusted him and gained their confidence. That's just about as important as anything. I have my doubts about Bowles as a coach but this is undeniable. The last year of a contract is never real. I wouldn't read too much into that.
There. Fixed it for you. Frankly, I would be all for adopting rules that BAR coaches from interacting with players on the field, and allow the players to play. But in the micro-managing world of the NFL, it's always about how to give coaches MORE control over every play and player. As I said before, their ideal is to create a video game world where they control every aspect. In the meantime, Bowles can't seem to handle the responsibility he already has. Time outs must be like quantum physics for him, and he apparently thinks it's against the rules to change a game plan. The biggest shock for me his season was him actually penalizing players for violating team rules. WOW! What a concept! Giving him an extension just reinforces how clueless Woody and Chris are. If they don't know enough to realize that Macc and Bowles aren't going to deliver a SB, then the only hope left is that they sell the team.
Not wrong??? Which QB has this coaching staff ruined? Hack & Petty? Really? They ruined them? Not for nothing, but under Bowles, 2 JAGoff's had career years. But hey, you keep believing the CS ruins QB's. (this fan-base...)
What the bold part says to me is that whoever predicted that they would be so bad was clueless and publishing click bait. I predicted they would win between 4-6 wins this year, and was correct. They are predictably poor-to-mediocre, and while I admit the team played much better this year compared to last, and I do credit Bowles with having a hand in that, he also cost them wins and still makes many of the same mistakes he made Year 1. Now we get to see if Macc can finally deliver on his reputation as a great talent evaluator which so far he hasn't, and assuming he delivers on that, we can see if Bowles can coach without any excuses that he didn't have enough talent. This move smacks of a "I'm not sure what to do, so I'll kick that decision into the future", and the fact that the Johnsons still don't know what to do is the biggest problem, and that's not going to change until they sell the team.
It's not surprising at all. These extensions are not long term they're still on notice they get one or two more years max to get this team into the playoffs or else. I can't say I'm happy about MacCagnan sticking around but at this point all we can do is hope for the best. It's a (supposedly) QB rich draft and there could be some real good veteran QB options available too gotta hope this guy gets a frickin' clue and gets a QB in here who could start the next five years at least.
LOL! I was gonna do that. Anyway, coaches make their living depending on players doing the right things, but unfortunately there are a lot of bone-headed players out there. It's easy for a coach to lose his job when players make enough mistakes. That's why the coaches want more and more control. And owners are usually on side with that (I'll guess, anyway).
I really do think Woody is settling with this decision? Not necessarily Mac because he's done some good for the team, but definitely when it comes to Toilet. This is a sad state of affairs when you see your HC outmatched, out adjusted, and out strategized consistently each and every week. This is to say nothing about how truly inferior he looks against a truly good HC like Bellichick. He now has managed to win only once against the patsies in 3 full seasons. Woody somehow thinks a 1-5 record against the division winners is a good thing? Honestly, I just have no idea what Woody is thinking by keeping this amateur coach.
What he's "thinking" is that he doesn't know enough to do any better. What he needs to do is hire a President of Football Ops who DOES know better and let him run things, but that ain't happening now that he's extended Macc and Bowles.
I think the different points fans bring up about Bowles are obvious. Any fan of any team can see them when watching the Jets play. It's not nitpicking. The hope is that he improves in those areas in 2018. Maybe better talent will help that.
Smart move IMO. Neither deserved to be kept over the other. Mac hasn't earned three years with a coach of his choice, which is essentially what your doing if you only fire Todd. If Mac was fired, the new GM certainly shouldn't be stuck with Bowles if he doesn't want him. I would have been OK with firing both, or keeping both. No other option for me. I agree, keeping Macc and letting him hire a new HC didn't make much sense since he hasn't proven himself either, but the smart move would've been to fire both. But the Johnsons aren't smart.
Maybe not so much ruin them, but they sure as shit didn't do them any favors either. Protection hasn't been great. Every year it's been washed up or nobody receivers. Forte. Fucking forte. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
