As pissed of as I am about this season and the lack of direction and foresight I will never ever stop being a diehard Jets fan. I will never root for another team. My interest may wane, as it did this season, when I actually wanted the Jets to lose games and because I had zero interest in watching a team rebuild with a QB who tested positive for Geritol. But I still have my season tickets and I will still live and die with this team. I just am not emotionally invested in this team with this HC and this QB and this short sighted view of how to build a team. If there is no young QB starting next year, I will gladly stay at home, turn on my Sunday Ticket and watch the 8 game mix to cheer on my fantasy football teams .

I am not surprised at all by their extensions. I knew it as soon as the roster was purged of veterans. No way Woody/Wold was going to fire a coach with a roster and QB situation like Bowles had in 2017. IMO it's hard to determine whether Bowles is holding back the team AT THIS POINT. He's obviously made his share of mistakes, all coaches do. I do think he has gotten control of the locker room after the debacle that was 2016. Guys say they want to be treated like, "Grown assed men", but guys like Mo' are immature, selfish and will be insubordinate regardless of the coach.

I understand that the people who despise TB are not pleased today, I am very much on the fence with him myself, but for those folks, look at it like this - this will be the last contract he signs with the NYJ if playoff games do not involve the Jets in '19 and '20. I don't think there's a playoff mandate in '18 for him, but definitely going forward from there, as well there should be...

Woody is alot of things but he isn't cheap.
If there is not obvious improvement, they will be fired. I don't think that there is a playoff or bust mandate , but significant improvement is definitely expected.

I hope you are right. Personally, if you had decided to keep both, I would have liked to have kept the pressure on Mac/Bowles to get major results in 2018 (winning season, successful young QB development, etc.) before extending the pair.

That's not necessarily true, no one starts 2 rookie safeties in the NFL. Besides Adams was a great pick and Maye has proven a lot of people wrong. Coaching absolutely plays a role. That's where communication comes in.

So Robby Anderson didn't improve? Did he not credit McCown? Hansen didn't make a few plays late? Kearse wasn't a good addition? That wasn't addition by subtraction at all my friend. They got rid of 2 1000 yard caliber receivers, everyone was going crazy on this board when it happened! Remember the off-season. A lot of the things you are saying now are not what fans thought.

I already provided my stance on Lee, he has shown some progress this year, I am hoping he breaks out next year. So there was more talent on this team then people realized? Is that really the case? Players got better, and I saw a team more together then last year.

Bowles has to improve, but given the roster I am happy with where things are going. Again, I see a whole lot of Bowles talk but no Mac talk. You don't have to agree, and that's OK w/ me.

Well this wasn't unexpected...actually it's straight out of the SOJ Manual.

I'm not going to waste any more time crying over spilt milk. Time will prove if this was the right move. I'll make my judgment after I see what Macc and Bowles do now. If they don't have a FQB in place, and substantially upgrade the offense by May, then my Jets sabbatical will begin.

As for the benefit of "continuity" that's what the idiot said when he was asked why he kept sitting in a pile of cowshit: "I know it stinks, but it's comfortable, and I know what to expect".

this is a good move. No way they were signing any free agents with the coach and gm both sitting on the hot seat. And since neither has done enough to distinguish themselves from the other this makes the most sense. Solid first big move for CJ.

The angst it is causing in the board and all that has resulted from it is just an added bonus

Not enough stability? How much security do a GM / Coach need? By the end of this extension it will be 6 years. If they can't build a successful team including a young QB being developed in that timespan then it's their own fault.

In fact, the only good thing about this extension is that it's should give Mac the security to draft a QB in the first round and have the CS develop this QB by playing him in 2018.

For sure, this is the offseason that Mac has to get the FQB. Either Cousins, or using the 1st round pick on one. No way he can fail signing Cousins and leave the draft with a McCown/Petty/Hack 'open' QB competition, no way...

There was no reset. It was a botched attempt. What are they trying to reset really because two years ago they should have been in the playoffs. I wish they would go on record and explain what they are trying to do cause it sure ain't winning. Where is our QB? Can't expect to draft one this year and play him. It might hurt Hackenbergs feelings since he can't get on the field under any circumtances.

Out of the two I'll take Macc staying. Its not his fault the talent he drafts is not being coached correctly. But I'll never understand the back to back safeties.

Yeah these players want stability but the dollars count more. They are only loyal if the zeroes match up with what their agent has been feeding them. Davis, ASJ, McCown, Claibourne will all bolt this offseason.

Was reading Cimini today and he questioned if Todd Bowles contract extension is fully guaranteed:

Even if it was fully guaranteed, odds are Todd Bowles goes back to coaching as a defensive coordinator, and almost all contacts for head coaches have some type of 'offset' language in their contracts that states if the coach is fired and he takes another job in the NFL as a head coach or assistant, the former team can recoup that portion of his new contract.

If the Jets shit can Toilet Bowles after another season with 6 wins or less, it's likely they won't have to pay out the entirety of his remaining contact.
