you can't press reset a year after you pressed reset. teams like the browns do this and that's why they never win. The hate for mac and bowles is dumbfounded

Depends how the contract is drawn up. Could have some performance clauses built in.

Is there a rating system for dummest owners ?? W and W are in top three with Snyder and whoever owns the Browns. I can just imagine the phone calls and conference calls with Jet owners, Toilet and Mac...Mac and TB winking at each other as they spin the wonderful season of accomplishment...all the time knowing their audience will believe anything ...LMAO. Later they congrat each for the Grifters of the Year award getting big fat contracts for DOING VERY LITTLE.. heh

Going forward ? We are back peddling 4 years

People with OCD can stop their repetitive behaviors faster than Johnsons...smh

The players keep preaching stability today. It's ridiculous and embarrassing. Stability is good if you are good. Being stably terrible is not what the Jets need. They needed a change at Head Coach. Now 2018 is a wasted season and maybe more since it's a 2 year extension. Too bad.

Hopefully I am wrong and Bowles turns out to be great, because I just don't see it. Not at all. Not even close. Not even Top 25 out of 32. Damn.

Everyone gets a trophy next year from the Johnsons' no matter what the record. Doggoneit, as long as they play hard and like each other, that's how we measure success. Yes sir, Bowles couldn't have asked for a better bunch to coach. We're building something here! It may stink to high heaven and look like crapola, but it's ours!

These are coach and GM contracts, not player contracts. They are guaranteed thru 2020. Can fire them but they will still be paid.

It may be time for me to go soon but you and a few other posters are helping get through some 49 year heartache

It would be very surprising to me if he ever turns into a good coach. He's not kotite level bad or anything but he is not good either.

I figured he'd return next season for sure but an extension seems like a bad idea, or at least a pointless idea as they will probably be bad again next season and then they might fire him anyway

Just need to comment because more than one poster is beating this drum of "stability/continuity." Do you think in this case that is a good thing? You are keeping a coach and GM who have led the team to back to back last place finishes. Just like the Johnson brothers, constant losing apparently doesn't bother you a bit because you are used to it. Just set the bar low, and then crow about the teams' "effort" in loss after loss. Einstein wrote that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting things to change--the jets just insured themselves of continuity and stability in their well-deserved spot (with these extensions) in the basement of the AFC East.

The jets GM has whiffed on so MANY picks like Devin Smith, Mauldin. Lee, Petty, Hackenberg, He has drafted a total on two offensive linemen in three years and both in the 5th round, and wonders why Wesley Johnson was the 34th rated center in the NFL this year. In 2017 he drafted four, count 'em four, defensive backs, and in the last jets win (if you can remember that far back) KC whipping boy Alex Smith burned them for four long TD passes. MM negotiated easily the three worst contracts in the history of this franchise to Revis, Fitzpatrick, and Wilkerson, shelling out some $100M for these three losers, having to terminate each contract prematurely because of poor performance by the enriched player.

The jets coach in three years had not developed any QB, constantly played the washed out vets, has not idea how to manage a clock or a game, weakly mumbles something about watching tape after each loss, and most importantly HAS HIS TEAM TOTALLY UNPREPARED TO PLAY ON THE ROAD. Anyone cheering the Todd Bowles extension must be happy with this team's back to back last place finishes. We go into 2018 with the worst offensive line in football, no clue who the QB will be, a defensive coordinator who must have naked pictures of the coach since he still has a job,and a coach who has shown no ability to attract other teams free agents. But, boy, do we have continuity and stability in our last place GM and coach!

Not a fan of the extension either, but I guess it's still reasonably easy to fire him after next season if they deem it to be necessary.

I'm actually OK with Mac's extension. I think he's done enough to at least be given another chance to go forward and continue with his rebuild. If Bowles were showing signs of developing into a good coach, I'd be fine with his extension too, but he's still making mistakes he was making in his first season and hasn't shown any signs of fixing those problems, such as halftime adjustments, preparation for road games, clock management, etc. I just don't think he's getting the job done on his end of the equation and he's shown little progress towards fixing those issues that continue to plague him. Hopefully he takes the opportunity this offseason to seriously address those issues. Maybe an assistant head coaching position, like what Herm did in his last year or two as HC, whose main or sole responsibility is to focus on time management?

Honestly the only person that needs to succeed the next 2 years is Mac. Build up a solid team for the coming years and switch coaches if you need to later. They likely aren't going to be a power house in 18 anyway.

Yeah, I wanted Rex fired after 2012 because it was clear he was clueless and had to go. At that point he had won 4 playoff games and went 9-7, 11-5, 8-8 and 6-10. So not too shocking that I feel Bowles should be fired after back to back 5-11 seasons. He should have been fired after last year. The team was a joke and the locker room was a mess. He gets off easy this year because the team was in clear rebuild mode. It's unfortunate. You are right though, a bad 2018 likely ends with him being fired, but it sucks wasting another year.

Woody is too cheap to ever fire someone with years left. The Jets could lose 16 games next year and I'd still be shocked if Bowles didn't come back for 2019.

The secondary almost HAD to improve! That was a bar so long it was lying on the ground. And we spent the tow first picks on Safeties so how could it not be better? It's not due to improved coaching.

Receivers did improve, but it was more "Addition by subtraction" by getting rid of the cancer/

Saying "Lee improved" is like telling the kid who shit his pants very day that he's doing so much better because he only shits his pants every other day now.

There was in fact more talent on this team than most people realized, and if Bowles had actually done a better job in the areas he's supposed to they might have actually made the playoffs. And despite that, he gets extended! Talk about rewarding mediocrity!
