Safe on what level? How much lower can they go? They aren’t at the Browns level but not far from it..
Id be ok if McCown is re-signed with the remit that he is going to help the newly drafted QB ease in. Give him the reigns to start the season then swap him out after 4-5 games. Give the new guy some junk time experience and then ease him in to the starting position. McCown is a top guy. You can see that. IF we can keep him on to mentor the new young guy then that will benfit us.
If the Jets are drafting a QB in round 1, I'm hoping that they're ready to play in week 1. I'm fine with McCown mentoring whoever it is, but I don't think he needs to be starting 4-5 games.
Not really happy with this. I don't think Bowles is the right guy for the job. And I am not sold on Mac yet. It is what it is. Let's hope both learned from their mistakes and can make the playoffs next year. Now, please go get Cousins so we have something to look forward to.

Can someone tell me why any free agent would want to come to this team knowing we are capable of drafting someone like Christian hackenberg in the 2nd round? Players are realizing you can still get paid and play for a winner and make up the earnings elsewhere. Any player that comes here with Bowles still coaching this team is a fool
They should have extended Bowles before the season and told him to play Petty/Hack every week. And then draft the QB in the 2018 draft. Why delay the inevitable? This was the tank year and the year to draft a QB, not the year to play the old man QB to squeeze out 5 wins. People - please look beyond next season and think about what it will really take to compete? I hope that one or more of Baker, Jackson, Allen are available at 6-8 and that the Jets pick the right one or one of the right ones. I can't stand more seasons of journeymen QBs that were other team's trash.
Therein lies the problem. It wasn't Bowles getting 5 wins, it was the whole Jets hierarchy deciding to play McCown for 3/4 of the season until he got hurt. A very short sighted way of doing things.

well we all knew it was going to happen. It is just dumb for the Johnsons. Now when they clean house after next season they will owe 2 more years of salary to Macc & Bowles. They coulda saved themselves the extra cash. But hey, not my money. hopefully we find a better coach/GM next offseason
The point being is that the agenda should not be McCown. If he keep plugging in the journeymen, this team will never be worth a damn. If McCown starts all next year this team will 100% reek of incompetence. If we do not sign Kirk or our 1st rounder is a not a QB, then this organization is fucked until 2020. Sign McCown and play him a few games and it’s ok. But if Bowles won’t put in Mayfield or Jackson because McCown “gives us the best chance to win”, then this ship is sunk. Why not play the kid, lose more games, and then provide him with a better supporting cast? Playing the journeymen long term is nothing but a dumbass move.
